This 03 IS 300 has a custom wide body, with TE37's. The car looks great but it's in need of more power, so we started by removing the 2jzge VVTi and installed a 1jzgte VVTi.

After removing the 2jzge, Rayray cleaned out the engine bay, so it can match the new engine going in.

Updates.

Car is back from getting the turbo manifold made. Ernie made a surge tank and the Bosch 044 pump is on it's way. We ordered some tube flaring tools and tube bending tools to finish up the fuel lines.

Udates!

Fuel system is about 98% done. We are waiting on bosch 044 pump witch should be there today and also on a few fittings. This is a picture of the bulkhead fitting for fuel return from the fuel surge tank.

Here are some pictures of the engine bay as it sits today. Manifold was made by a good friend of Patrick. I guess you can say, it's the first custom made exhaust manifold for 1jz VVTi IS300.

When you build a serious car and you want it to last, you use one of these Bosch 044 pumps. Im sure the picture speaks for it self.

The bosch is cheaper by alot Chris. The Aeromotive is two of these bosch's pumps put together. Both pumps will take the same level of fabrication to fit.

car has a tuning appointment tomorrow at 11am.... lets hope the FIC is strong enough to handle the motor, otherwise i'll have to order an EMS.

in other news Ray was kind enough to put an order for a C's shifter for me and since i don't have a shift knob i was looking for a shift knob. i remembered my buddy's BMW had this awesome weighted custom knob on his car. if any of you guys are interested let me know. the heavier weight of the knob will make shifts easier and smoother... especially getting into that notchy as hell 2nd gear!

well we had our first dyno tuning session last night and the results are acceptable, however that magic 400rwhp number just kept eluding me! we kept hitting 397-399, even waiting 10 minutes to let the car cool down. ambient temp was about 85F, so i'm sure on a cooler night i would have hit it easy.

for some reason my SBCiD just wouldn't control boost in auto mode. has anyone had this issue as well? it just refused to control boost and there were moments that the car hit 25psi. motor is fine but i was sorely dissapointed with the unit. we ended up using manual mode and controling it via gain/solenoid values. (i could have spent 1/4 the price and gotten the same results). i have gain and dutycycle at 40 and it seems to be happy now building 18.6psi fairly quick and holding it steady till 7300rpm

AFRs look crazy on the map, but take note of the scale, AFR stays between 10.8 and 11.8. i still think there's a little more room to straighten it out even at this resolution, but the car is happy right now.

anyhow here's my charts for now. we still need to clean up the daily driven part of the calibration (tip-in, vvti, a/c idle up, etc). but its a good start! hopefully we'll be finalizing the tune in the next couple of weeks.... pray for cooler weather! 85F at night is too hot! =)

VVTI is intake . the exhaust side doesn't have vvti. i don't think 1jzs were offered with dual vvti.

we are using a custom AEM EMS. Its a 1050 Civic box that has been internally modified to be compatible with the IS300 motor and control VVTI. Then we had to do some magic to get idle to work since we used a non-DBW throttle body. its a pain in the ass, but its worth it =)

AEM EMS can control VVTi if properly modified. its a shame that AEM doesn't do it out of the box.

I believe he just used this term loosely to answer my question... I don't think he meant VVTi on the exhaust.. he was using VVTi to differentiate between a none VVTi head and a VVTi cylinder head. I can confirm his response was accurate, further reseach... there is a difference in the exhaust ports layout in comparison to a none VVTi 1JZ-GTE cylinder head...

opps.. he had time answer.. he didnt when i was typing this

Thats soom cool stuff men... might need help with that... if i make up my mind to go that direction... one last question.. not sure if you will have the answer to this one... can the VVTi head fit on a regular 1JZGTE block.. or it has to be the 1JZGTE block the VVTi head came with?

here you can see the madness of the Skyline IAC system. its retarded - has a separate regular IAC and a coldstart solenoid however both feed into the same hole. the solenoid must be plumbed into the chargepipe and not open air because they are known to leak boost.... i hate nissan.

c's shifter with TRD knob. i also got a shifter extension to raise it up about 2" from stock. shifts at this height are nice and easy and my hand doesn't have to move as far down for shifts. "shortened" shifters FTL!
