Ok ive had my 1j swap for about 2.5 years, ran the train on that motor and (knock on wood) never had one issue, never broke down, nothing, well last summer after taking her to the track the 4.30's started making noise. sounded like someone was hitting the bottom of my car with a 25lb sledge. Well this would be why....

Now ive NEVER heard of anyone breaking these rearends. And there are guys who are running mid 9's @150mph pulling the front wheels on these rearends for years with no issues. Now this rearend has been through its paces. a buddy with 500whp+ 7M modified this diff with new lsd clutches and configuration, and he had used them for a bunch of hard launches on et streets pulling mid 1.6 60's and than ive ran it hard for the last few years, launching on the slicks did it in. Ive never even heard of anyone breaking teeth off. Im sure its happened but its def not common....

Wow...nice job :bigthumb:

I've seen a Torson grenade, but never a ring gear like that!

Looking at those pictures.
Looks like an unloaded drive train was shocked and gave way. The crack on those two teeths are in the same area.

I have seen it happen from people drop clutching any car. The Supra is no exception. Especially if running drag radials or slicks.

Good work! Clean that up and stick it on the wall.

nice! Judging by your sig, you drive your car pretty hard.

Yeah this one may be made into a clock, lol a 20lb clock.. I do drive mine pretty hard, i go 110% whenever i race, parts break, my pride and reputation arent as easy to repair.

I didnt dump it sadly, it was more of a 6500fade out for about 10ft than dump, but my clutch didnt hold for that pass at all, so im suprised it did this kind of damage. I was expecting like a bad pinion bearing or something.

Ive heard of and seen torsons grenade, but ive yet to see another Clutch type LSD break.

6500 fade out?!?!? Damn... I'm surprised your clutch held up enough to make the rear turn that hard.

probably too much play in the rear end. The pinion tension gets loose over time with the toyota crush washer design. Check out this thread

6500 fade out.... way above your torque peak ;) No standalone I take it?

Crower 272 intake cam, HKS 264 exhaust cam, Titan cam gears, emanage, and 110oct my trq curve hits at 3500 and pulls to 8K only thing that falls off is the stock turbos at ~7500 at 18psi. Car put down 395whp and 410tq, trq fell off with the turbos, still made 375ish at 8K.

I usually faded out around 3200-3400 on the street on street tires, only cause i wouldnt give the tires a chance to do anything but roast the pavement, but with sticky tires i was forced to go higher. The 12.6@113 pass was me fading out like i was taking off from a stop light at 2400 let it all the way out and punched it in 1st ~3500 still managed a 2.0 60' with the clutch slipping until just shy of the 1000' mark. i ran it in the 1/8 and my time was 7.68@88mph with a 1.75 60' earlier that year. Should have put me in the 11.8-12.0 @ 115-116mph trap range. Still on stock turbos, injectors, IC, and piping, untuned with it dipping into the 9:1 a/f. Car had more in her just couldnt keep the clutch together for an impressive run into the 11's for the real record.

Cant say i wasnt trying.. lol

no it is not that :)

with a standalone you can do a 4500 rpm + 8 lbs boost off the line. Save you from spinning the motor so much ;)

What are some of your ET's and 60 foots?

that clutch looks like my old act 6 puck, sucker seized onto my aluminum flywheel, for all the trouble i went through i should have done a rps twin disc, now here i am sitting looking at all the clutches i bought, i sit at 3500 with the rps i just got

ive only took it to the track a few times. first time out was right after i did the swap, just a full exhaust and 14psi and i had spark blowout issues (had them gapped at like .32") so i had to shift at 6500 but i ran a 13.6@104 with a consitant 1.960' on 245/40/17 fuzions, than a little later with an ecu, wider rear tires 275/40 fuzions , better clutch, those 4.30's and 18psi i ran a 12.9@110 with again 1.9 60's spinning.. Than early last year when i had the emanage, 110oct, cams, cam gears, borrowed DR's i pulled 1.7 60' and ran 7.68@88mph which again came out to a 11.8-12.0 pass at 115-116traps, this was back in march/april of last year when the world record on stock twins was 12.3 in an auto 240 with more mods than me...So when i tried to get the 1/4 mile record and the first stock twins in the 11's in a full weigh mk3 shell, what you see above happened.

With slicks i launched at 6500 and quick faded it out, faded maybe 10-12ft than let her rip, and the rpms went to 7500 and the clutch slipped up to 40, hit second, again 7500 clutch slipped to 60, hit third, again 7000 until halfway through 3rd, hit 4th and it fade shifted into 4th, pulled a 2.0 60' ran 12.9@110, second pass, launched at 4500, same thing only worse, 2.2 60' ran 12.9@110. let the car sit for an hour, no burnout, just cleaned the slicks off, took off the line at 2400(my cams dont give me ANY power until 3500) faded it out like normal driving, once the clutch was all out i floored it, i hooked in 1st still managed a 2.0 60', slipped in 2nd, faded into 3rd and 4th, ran 12.6@113. Still managed me the Mk3 stock twin record, but not the overall.. heres a video of the last run...

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/dcf7bc23-efca-49ce-8d16-995600528adb.htm
the video ends right as the time shows, split second... car has sat since may last year mostly, took her out once on a car cruise, and tore up a bunch of ppl even on 13psi even ran a cbr 600rr from a dig for fun. Now shes comming apart getting a precision 31.5x8x3 FMIC, hardpipes, E01 programmer and EBC, RPS stage 3 6puck, Larger turbos, JDM 440cc's, and 275/40/17 M/T Et street radials. Should see ~490-520whp turbo only, and later this season may go direct port 75shot. Nice thing is the turbos will still kick in at 3500 and go til 8K. Stupid powerband, Hoping if i dont blow another diff to go low 11's. Sorry for the war and peace post. I have most of my vids up in the youtube vid section.

Im also afraid to get a studder box, that shit breaks things.... lol

Yeeeep, toyota's crush washer design sucks...

I sheered 3 teeth off the pinion gear on my truck (had 4.11's stock, 31" tires, and a low range that broke the motor mounts...twice), and the damn thing still drove fine, just made TONS of noise...
