The JDM pan... throw it away.
Re-use your USDM pan.
I don't know why they're different, my dad and I have been wondering for years.

If it is a JDM 7MGE it is because it is from a Cressida not a Supra. They also have different oil pumps IIRC.

Yeah the reason they are different might be since it's a Cressida one. I have a Supra one though, cause I'm pretty sure my intake manifold is the one with ACIS :D

so switch back to the old one and
is the different oil pumps a bad thing?
7M-GE motors for the Supra & Cressida uses the same oil pump (different pick-ups). The 7M-GTE uses a higher volume pump (higher gearing) to supply the CT-26, cooling circuit, and squirters on a turbo block. They interchange...installing a turbo oil pump on a NA motor is fine (better actually), but you do not want to install a NA oil pump on a turbo motor.

is the different oil pumps a bad thing? If it is the worng one then the pick up is in the wrong place, once you pull it and try to put the old one on you will see what we are talking about.:)

Well, not quite,
The Cressida pick-up is cast into the end cover of the oil pump.
The Supra pick-up bolts to the side of the pump.
Although the internals are almost the same,
and they bolt up just fine,
the pumps are total different.
So you can not just swap pick-ups.
Really!?! The Cressida motor I saw ('90 iirc) had a pump almost identical to the Supra NA motor...the p/u bolted on the same way.

Well then it wasn't a Cressida engine.
There are pictures of the Supra vs. Cressida pans here:

Yeah...I see your point. Must not have been a Cressida motor...now that I think back on it, the oil dipstick tube on the block was in the correct location.

ok ive read all the post and looked at the link now answer me this.
oil dip stick was in the corect location on new motor
motor made a block off plate for egr.
oil pans look different 1. different shape slightly and 2. oil drainplug on oposite side.
so whats going on. is it maybe like a 89+ motor? were the pans slightly different from the pre89 to the 89+'s?
