My last build turned out to be hopeless. The body of the car was useless to me, it required too much bodywork and too much bondo. So i found a car that better suited my needs. I picked it up in Dec for $500.

Ruff Racing R280 Rims 18x9.5 rear 18x8.5 front
I got a turbo engine and tranny from Divin' Devin. Hella great seller. He drove the engine to me which was a 5 hour drive. Just want to say thanks again Devin. Good luck on your 1j swap.
It was all going good, I was buying a new item every week. Then I got fired for a BS reason, so i cant buy anything else until i find a new job. I was just about to buy the rest of the body kit also. :icon_evil It sucks.
I also jumped in on the TRD shift knob group buy. I got the knob in like 4 days. It kinda scared me because there was no confirmation of a recieved payment.
Here is the new engine after some cleanup

a new intercooler i cant use yet, i need a bigger turbo. 24x12x3 without end tanks, 3" inlet/outlets.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/Upgrades/intercooler.jpg
Saved some items from the last car that I was going to use. The LIPP high flow fuel rail and the aeromotive fuel pressure regulator.

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/Upgrades/100_2136.jpg
A list of upgrades that I'll be buying after i get a new job and the rest of the body kit:
Forged JE pistons, .20 over
Pauter Rods
FFIM w/ Q45 TB
+1mm full Ferrea valve train
JT70 turbo
Tial BOV
680CC RC Injectors
Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump
3" Cooleze downpipe
3" exhaust
C's short shifter
Jaws Gear aluminum 1 pc. driveshaft
I haven't decided which clutch I'll use yet, i was looking at the clutchmasters stage 3, but i dont really want a harsh engagement. I'm not sure if I'll get a lightened flywheel either.
As of right now, I'll put the engine in with the W58 instead of the R154 because I don't have a driveshaft for the R154. I was going to buy the Jaws Gear one but i got fired the day I was going to order it. The W58 has an upgraded clutch so it should be fine for a bit. The engine will stay stock for a little while so I can just get used to driving the car again, it's been 2 years since I've driven a Supra lol.
And after a long time of searching for some nice black rims with a chrome lip i finally settled on some rims. The Ruff Racing R280s. 18x9.5 and 18x8.5 +35 offsets for front and rear.
Picture of said rims....http://www.hubcap-tire-wheel.com/images/2006/wheels/ruff-racing-r280b.jpg
If anyone remembers my last failed build with the red car, I'm still doing the black with red accents theme. I got an 89+ climate control with red LEDs in it, thanks Jayson, and I put red LEDs in the gauge cluster. I just need to work on the interior again.
And thats about it, I'll post pics of some little things as I go along. As soon as I can find a place I can use to swap the engines, I'll post some more pics. And sorry about the disorganized post. Lol.

sorry about your bit of bad luck. Hope you get a chance to do all those mods. I love seeing some one redo these supras. So few are still around. My build isn't on hold really, just cash flow issues, as with you. Are you building for street or strip? Mine is for street. Just want to be able to stomp on some more modern cars with a bullet proof, rare engine that most would not even suspect. You would be suprised how many toyota mechanics that aren't aware of the 1jzgte. Like I said before that 7mgte was goin' right into this one, until ole 1j came along and I decided to be different.
Get that new job and get on that build. I want to see that car when you are done. Maybe we can meet up some time. If you have any questions on that particular engine, such as previously known work, just pm me.
good luck,
-Devin

I hear you Devin, I like these cars because they are pretty much the underdog. They stay out of sight and under the radar. I will definitely drive up there sometime when the engine is running good. Maybe we'll head to Moroso to race each other when were both running lol.
Thanks Nick, I got the rears yesterday. I'll have a new job pretty soon. So expect some more money. Lol

Ok. So the Supra has been moved from my former work place to where my dad works. I've been given the go ahead to work on it in the parking lot. So I'm going to take the GE and W58 out tomorrow. I've decided not to take off the R154 and put the W58 on. So it'll just sit there and not go anywhere because I dont have an R154 driveshaft. So pics of the engine removal tomorrow. I went over there earlier before the sun went down and took off the exhaust manifold, the a/c lines, took out the ECU, and disconnected the engine harness from the dash harness.
In case you missed it in all that garble, I need an R154 driveshaft for pretty cheap. No money from no job.

I have $1k coming in from my tax return. I'm thinking of getting the JT70 turbo from Jeff at notrice.com for $1500, that will take a couple of months. I'm getting money in April also. So if I got the turbo i'd be able to get it in April. Or I can get rims. The Ruff Racing R280s for about $900.http://hubcap-tire-wheel.com/images/2006/wheels/ruff-racing-r280b-sm.jpg
But I don't have a lowered suspension so it would look a little funny. Or maybe I could buy the rest of the body kit. Anyway, take a look at my mod list and let me know what I should buy. Lol.
*using secret powers* buy rims! :D

Lol, maybe. I'm still thinking. Rims are nice but upgrades are nicer. Maybe I'll get the new limited Apex-i AVC-R boost controller and the aeromotive a1000 fuel pump. I dont know. HALP!!!11!
Anyway, I removed the engine today like I said I was.

I thought I'd swap in the turbo engine tomorrow but I'm a little more exhausted than I thought I would be. I finished in 3 hours with no help and stopping to take a bunch of pictures of the engine coming out. Maybe I will later on in the day. I don't know yet.

Keep lookin for one, I was very lucky to get this one.
Anyway, I know what I'm going to buy with my newly found cash. Sorry ViR2, no rims yet. Lol. I'll be buying intercooler piping from driftmotion with the TiAL BOV adapter, a TiAL BOV with the 11 PSI spring, a C's Short Shifter, and a boost controller. Did I make a wise choice?
And then in late April, I'll probably be buying a FFIM.

Lol, thanks, I'm impatient.
In other news, NOW i know what I'm going to buy with my 1k. Lol. I'm buying the 2.5" intercooler piping, bomex sideskirts, and a new accodian intake hose, maybe some kind of boost gauge, and 89+ tails.
And in more other news, I'm putting the turbo engine in tomorrow. And I'll try to get it running during the week. I would've done it today but I woke up at 12:30 I could've sworn it was still Friday, lol. I guess thats what having no job does to you. :3d_frown:
I also went to the Home Depot today and bought myself some washers to shim the wastegate. That was possibly the easiest thing I've ever done in my life for a modification, lol. $0.98 and all of a minute and a half to do. (with the engine out of the car, of course)
Wish me luck tomorrow.

Man, I'm exhausted. I got started at about 11 this morning and went to the storage unit where the engine was being kept, it took about an hour to get it onto the truck, lol. Then everything was ready to be dropped in at about 1, my friend was supposed to come and help but never showed up so it took me til about 5 just to get the engine in the car and bolted in.
I messed a few things up tho on the transmission. I had the jack under the transmission to keep the engine straight, and while I was positioning the engine, the transmission slipped off the jack, snapped the slave cylinder and bent the hard line. So I need those now, I also need an R154 crossmember. So now the engine is in the car and bolted up with the jack holding up the transmission.
Yea it took me awhile but it was my first time putting an engine in any car, lol. Now for a couple of pics.

So I spent all of today getting everything hooked up and cleaning the rats nest of wires where the battery should be. I didn't realize getting the harness thru the firewall was that difficult. :icon_evil I didn't really have any problems connecting anything except for the fuel feed. That bolt was torqued to like 666 ft/lbs because it was a demon bolt. I had trouble getting it loose with a breaker bar, and i'm not a small guy. Anyway, I got the waterpump pulley and fan clutch on, along with the radiator, I changed the oil, etc... Anyway I finally got the damn fuel feed bolt at around 6 and everything done, and I went to start the car for the first time, it cranked for about a second and then the battery died. But since it was my first time ever putting an engine in the car and hooking everything up, it was quite possibly the best sound i've ever heard. Lol. Anyway, the battery is on the charger so I'll go back in the morning and try to get it started.
EDIT - just went back with a semi charged battery and, IT RUNS! It only ran for about 10 seconds. It doesn't have the intercooler hooked up or the accordian hose, which would explain why it only ran for that long. I'm amazed that it ran the first time. Just wanted to thank Devin again for the engine. Video to come tomorrow afternoon. It's surprisingly not that loud for only half a down pipe for an exhaust. :evil2:

Here are a few pics of the engine cleaned up a little and a short video of it kinda running kinda stuttering. No leaks, fuel pressure is good, battery is charging good, and no oil leaks.

did you go with the clutchmasters stage 3 setup? I bought that and was surprised that it looked almost identical to the stock setup I got earlier from Beck/Arnley. I was expecting something else, I guess. It is a different color, and has different markings on it; but, visually, looks very much the same. Anyway, if you went that way and have it installed, tell me about it.
Thanks!

Not yet, but unless someone comes up with a good reason not to, i will eventually run it. All the mods on my vBPicGallery are reminders to myself to remember what I want, lol. It took me a long time to decide on certain set-ups and I dont want to have to go thru deciding again lol. If you end up running the clutch before I do let me know how it is, like engagement and such. Or maybe someone else who is using it can toss some info in here.
Anyway, the registration for my car is almost up and I was thinking of getting a vanity plate. I had 3 things in mind but one wont be applicable until the car is finished.

So, I went and put some coolant in there yesterday. The battery is completely dead so I have to charge it for a few hours to be able to start it. I ordered the accordian hose from HPF last night. Around the 20th, I'll be ordering the IC piping from driftmotion along with the TiAL BOV adapter. And then a TiAL BOV from HPF.
I'd say within 6 months the accordian hose will be for sale and so will the intercooler piping, lol.
A problem that I'm having now, is that whenever I turn my lights on, the climate control lights turn off. I was messing with the headlight switch on the steering column, I found that the lights turn back on for a split second, but they do turn on. Is it possible that the switch could be the problem? It still turns the headlights on, turns the brights on, turns the turn signals on, the gauge lights turn on when they should, etc.
And a couple more videos. Dont mind the guy sticking his hands near the turbo, he's a Mustang guy. :biglaugh:

I had that problem with mine when I had my old gauge cluster in, you probably just missed a plug or something, I think that was all that was wrong with mine.

03-14-2007, 07:59 PM
I double checked all the connectors in the back of the gauge cluster. I've taken it out twice now, once to change the lights to LEDs and once to make sure all the plugs were in, all the female connectors had a male one in it. And there werent any extra male plugs. The problem happened since I bought the car in Dec. When I was messing with the headlight switch, the lights flashed on the climate control. I've used the pre 89 climate control and a 89+ climate control with an LED conversion. They both have the same problem. It lights up when the lights arent on tho.

I have a few parts coming on Friday, i'll post pics that night. Gettin closer to gettin this bitch on the road. Just need a drive shaft, hook up the intercooler and piping, put the new slave cylinder and hardline on, and bleed the clutch.
Something that may be of some concern, when I started it today with the AFM hooked up, it started smoking from the half a downpipe it has, lol. Didn't smell sweet, it just smelled like exhaust.

How come you didn't cleanup the engine/engine bay before installation??

Thanks :icon_bigg
In all honesty, I just wanted to get the car on the road. I did clean up most of the dirt on the engine with brake clean and visually inspected all of the hoses and vacuum lines on it. Everything seemed fine. And it turns out it was. And as for not cleaning the engine bay, the same reason above applies. I just wanted to get the car running. But also, I have something planned for the engine bay. Some people will like it and some will flame. But bring it on, lol. It won't happen for quite some time tho unfortunately for me. As of now, I won't have a place to keep the car if I decide to pull my engine to do my forged build. So as soon as I find a place to keep the car, preferably for free, I will pull the engine and do the rebuild running or not.

Thanks Jayson, I think I have the problem pegged, its not in the unit itself. I think theres a problem with the switch on the column. At least I hope so. I'm 100% sure its not the unit you made for me because it does it with the CC that was already on the car when i bought it. If its not the switch, then its the dash wiring, which i REALLY dont want to deal with. I'm terrible at wiring.
And please someone let me know if this is the death whine, someone has to know.

1 step forward 2 steps back. All is well with the turbo. It's not dying like I thought it was. Just a whistle coming out of the IC pipe. When I was putting the accordian hose back on the ISC hose broke. And when I went to look for some reducers for the intercooler, no one knew what the hell i was talking about. A guy at AutoZone actually took me to the Silicone Sealant area of the store. And at another "performance" shop, I asked "how much is a 2.5" to 2" silicone reducer for aluminum intercooler piping?" (those were my exact words) and he said $62. WTF? lol. Anyway, it looks like DM will be getting another order from me.

I put the new slave cylinder and hardline in earlier today and replaced the broken ISC hose with a piece of 5/8" heater hose. I have a driveshaft on the way. I also hooked up the speedo cable and put my boost gauge in. I just shoved it into the ashtray slot for now. So now all thats left is hooking up the IC piping and the driveshaft. And then it's on the road.

Ok, well I got all the intercooler piping on, the blow off valve hooked up, the driveshaft on, and fluid in the transmission. I went to hook up the clutch and realized I had to get a new rubber hose that is a Toyota only part. So that ended my fun because I swore to myself that today would be the day it drove. So now all I do is sit in the car, rev it, and pretending like I'm driving. It's sad. :3d_frown: . I had to buy a new battery also cuz my last one was dead. On another note, I got all my dash lights working. It was the stupid dimmer switch. I had an extra one laying around. Although I could've sworn I changed it. It looks pretty bad ass at night with all red. I'll take a pic and post it here.
I guess I hooked up my boost gauge wrong because it's not reading boost. I'll fix that another day tho.

Well, tomorrow I should get the short rubber clutch line tomorrow. And if I do, I'll definitely have the car on the road. A couple more pics.
Red dash LEDs. Some of the lights look dim but I can assure you they are all mighty bright. But like some have said, you can't see where the redline starts. O well. We all know where it is anyway, lol. And the picture makes some of the climate control lights look orangish but they are red also.

Car is officially on the road now. It has a couple of vacuum leaks and it's throwing a code 14. So i need to fix that. It idles a little rough but thats ok it stays running. I've driven a little over 200 miles now on the new engine. I've loved every minute of it.
The first day I drove it, I had the wastegate shimmed to 10-11 psi. It ended up blowing up the coupler between the 3000 pipe and the TB. Which turned it into a boost leak. It felt like what some people on here described as fuel cut so I took out the shims to put it at stock boost. It still did it, so I retightened my intercooler pipes and still had the same problem. So I stepped back to look at the whole engine and i noticed the coupler was split all the way down the side. So I cut up a foxbody mustang's accordian hose and I'm using that for now. I'm about to order a new coupler.
I switched out the steering wheel to an 89 (which is much more comfortable than the 86-88) along with 89+ taillights. I only have a pic of the taillights right now. I've also replaced the spark plugs which I gapped to .32 and I replaced the spark plug wires.

I'll have pics of the steering wheel tomorrow. I'm thinking about buying some sound deadening material. I'm not worried about weight so it doesn't matter how much weight it adds. Once I get the sound deadening material, i'll start to redo my interior. I'm also getting the drivers side window motor fixed on Saturday. It was a bitch to pull out so I'm using a hook up and having someone at the dealership to do it for free. :biglaugh:

Well a couple of things happened today. I was on my way to the dealership to get my window motor put in and about 3 mins away from the place my temp needle started going up higher than it should be. My first thought was BHG SHIT! So i pulled into the dealership jumped out of the car and looked under the hood to see what was going on. My overflow reservoir was boiling and spitting fluid out. I checked the oil for water and coolant, nothing there. Thank god. So I let it cool and opened the radiator and it turns out the radiator was clogged. The radiator wasn't even warm except for the top. So now it's sitting at the dealership with 3 other supras. 2 white 89+ turbo targas and a MKIV TT. The guys that work there own them. I'm getting a new fan shroud, getting the system flushed, and new heat shields. Problem is I don't have any cars now, so I'm driving the girlfriends Jeep Wrangler around since she doesn't like to drive. The DD is at CarMax getting fixed and now the Supra needs to get fixed. Oh well. Shit happens. If I had a BHG I'd have mixed feelings. I'd kinda like it because I'd do my forged build a little sooner than I thought, but I'd hate it because I wouldn't be able to drive it for a long time again.
Casey: <Fingers crossed> ;)

Shitty!
When are you getting it painted ;)?
I've got a Koyo OEM replacement that's a dual core up for sale if you're interested!
There's also a koyo race radiator group buy going on in the group buy section btw.

Thanks for the hope Ian, I'm hoping everything is ok too, lol.
Thanks for the offer Kyle, I'll look into it if my radiator is too far gone. I might need one because it looked pretty damn clogged in there. I'm surprised I didn't think to check the inside of the radiator when I first put it in.
I'm getting the car painted as soon as I get 89+ trim, bomex sideskirts, and a gracer bumper. I have the bomex rears just sitting in a corner in my room along with a sunshade and turn signal covers. The paint job and body work is free so as soon as I get them it's going to the paint shop :naughty:.
I have a job interview next week sometime. So if I get the job, I'll buy the sideskirts, trim, and bumper right away. Then it's time for some upgrades. I'll probably get the rest of the fuel system which is some RC 680cc injectors an aeromotive a1000 fuel pump. I already have an aeromotive pressure regulator and a LIPP high flow fuel rail.
I may get a few things powdercoated as well. I have an extra set of N/A valve covers that I want to try out a color scheme on. I'll also probably get the LIPP fuel rail powdercoated black or red. Not sure yet.

Thats gonna look sick, I've always liked that dark green color. I applied for a job at Car Max. So I'll be making some decent money if I get the job. So after the first paycheck, I'll start ordering some more parts. I'll probably buy the gracer bumper later this month. I've been doing a few odd jobs around here. Like a little land scaping where my parents work, some pressure cleaning, etc...
And please if someone has a good coil pack, 89+ trim (preferably white to match the tail light trim), a good set of 89+ turn signals, or the rubber shift boot that bolts to the chassis PM me.

Ok, some updates and a few new parts. My radiator was bad. It was clogged beyond a flush. So I had to buy a new OEM one. It will probably be for sale sometime soon as I do want to upgrade the cooling system. They got the heat shields on and they are waiting for the new radiator and putting that in with the fan shroud. I asked if I could do an inspection on the car to see what I missed and tighten bolts and they told me to come down tomorrow as it should be ready. So I'll be able to do a much better inspection of things because I'll have access to a lift and better tools. I told him to try to track where the Code 14 is coming from. I tracked it back to the coil pack and I just want him to verify. I got a coil pack and as soon as I get the car back I'll put that on.
I also ended up buying a new shifter bushing and socket from Marlin Crawler (I was under the impression that it was white?)
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/Picture180.jpg
I also bought a 2.75" coupler for my 3000 pipe to TB so I can take off the cut up mustang hose off. And I also bought the rubber shift boot that connects to the chassis from Mike (too_stand). He is an awesome seller.
Anyway, I've been without a car since Friday. I've been using my girlfriends Jeep to get from my house to school and thats it. My daily driver is in for repairs. The rear struts needed to be replaced, the door lock actuator needed to be replaced, and the window motor and regulator needed to be replaced. Damn Hyundais, thank god for warranties.
Anyway, that's about it. Tomorrow when I get it back I'll try to get the sunshade on it, put the Marlin Crawler bushings in, put the new coilpack in, put the rubber shift boot on it, put the silicone coupler on for the 3000 pipe to TB, and turn the boost back up to 10 psi.

Lol, I was pushing for it. But my dad wouldn't let me buy a car without his consent on it first and the Hyundai is what we settled on. :3d_frown:
The stuff from Marlin Crawler costed me about $25 shipped. The thing in the middle does go on the end of the shifter and the red thing, I hope, is the shifter bushing. I was under the impression that it was white. We'll see when I try to put it on tomorrow. I'm positive I ordered the right part but they might not have sent the right one. It looks close enough tho.

A little bit of an update. I just got my new coil pack in the mail. The resistance was within spec unlike the other one. So this should fix my code 14. I also got a set of 89+ turn signals in preparation for my gracer bumper i may buy in a week or so. The supra comes back tomorrow along with the daily driver. We did a block test to see if the head gasket went and the head gasket was fine. We ran the car for about an hour and a half and it didn't overheat. We also replaced the brake lines just as a precaution. Now in other unfortunate news for myself, my laptop bit the dust. So i may not be updating much in the upcoming weeks.

Ok, I'm back with a new laptop. A Compaq Presario C500. It's kinda bulky tho. It has Windows Vista on it and I'm not impressed. It's more or less the same. Anyway, onto the car.
I replaced the shifter bushing and I don't know why more people don't buy this and put it on their car. It's a HUGE difference. Shifts are much tighter and instead of being able to move the shifter side to side a few inches in gear, it only moves maybe 3/4"-1" in gear.
Here's a pic of a new OE radiator and fan shroud and the silicone coupler on the 3000 pipe to TB. It doesn't sit in the stock location tho. It's pushed out by about an inch but it's ok. I just need to find a new way to secure the 3000 pipe to the valve covers.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/114.jpg
I also need to buy a new master cylinder. I installed the sunshade but I don't have pics right now. Maybe later today. I replaced the coil pack with another one and it got rid of my Code 14. Now I just have the damn knock sensors to mess with.
I raced an EVO MR the other day. We started out at a 40 roll and I hung with him for a little of 3rd but after I shifted to 4th he destroyed me. We shut off at about 80. It wasn't much of a race. I'm not sure if it was stock or not. I never got the chance to talk to him.
Just a picture after a wash. Like my "3 wave lip"? It's custom, lol. (I hate my wheels)

Driftking - I know the engine bay is pretty cluttered. I've just been trying to get everything running good before I started to clean it up. And I finally achieved that today. It was idleing a little high. I forgot about a vacuum line near where the power steering pump is. Since I took off the pump, I just ran a vacuum line from there to the accordian hose which I had previously blocked off.
Ian - I tried and tried but those were the longest ones I can find. :biglaugh: When I first installed the IC pipes I couldnt close the hood because of those ones by the BOV. :nono:
Anyway, I need to rant about my powersteering. I can't wait until I get power steering back. I just don't want to put the pump and hoses back on to find out the rack is leaking. Then I'd have to buy a reman. rack and spend ~$500 for the rack, tie rods, and labor. I don't work on the steering components myself. The car was low on powersteering fluid when it still had the GE in it. I don't want another headache from the car, lol.

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/100_2848.jpg
I'll put the master cylinder on tomorrow because it's kind of important. I just hate to bleed fluids. :3d_frown: I also found out that if your window trim has the black coating peeling off and the metal under it is starting to rust, just put some soap on a steel wool pad and scrub and it'll comes right off. I did that with the trim that is showing metal on my car.

RedEJ - It sounds like a TiAL, lol. I keep the baypass valve there so it doesn't sputter or try to stall on me. It backfires every once in a while tho. Not often enough tho as it scares the crap out of me everytime it does it. My tune will be just a street tune. I've been looking for a good engine management system and found one that no one is really using. The Emerald K3 (http://emeraldm3d.com/em_k3.html). A few MKIV guys are using it and they love it. A guy near me that specializes in Supras can tune them. The place is called GR Technologies. He has a RHD white MKIV. Sick car. I think it runs mid to low 10s.
I don't know why I hate the wheels so much. I just do. The front passenger wheel is bent a little and paint on the rest of them is flaking off. If anyone wants them, come get them. I'll get new wheels when I get the money for them. Problems is, they'll look funny without a lowered car. I've posted the wheels I'm getting near the beginning of the thread. As far as I know, no one has the wheels i'm getting on their car right now and that's one of the things I was looking for when I was looking for wheels.

Haven't updated in a while because there was nothing to update. The window is still broken and the brakes still dont have pressure even tho I replaced the master cylinder. I'll try bleeding them real good one more time. If not, I guess I'll have to replace the brake booster.
My car really isnt safe anywhere. While it was in front of my house the rear window gets smashed. Now it's in a locked and closed warehouse. I went there today to drive it because I'm having supra withdrawals. I noticed it had 4 huge scratches on the hood. To the metal. It sucks. Only 2 people actually go in there so it was one of them. :3d_frown: Does anyone know where they sell MKIII specific car covers?
Anyway, as soon as I get the brakes bled, I'm getting 4 new tires and a new window. So I can't wait for that.

Going into the shop on July 2nd for 4 new tires and a new rear window. Maybe the RHD swap. It depends on if the motor is pulled from the clip and how much the guy at the body shop wants to charge me, if anything at all. Ok, only a LITTLE bit of progress. I still need a new set of tires and a new rear window.
But I did the knock sensor rewire. My first time soldering and it came out pretty good, looked ugly, but it worked fine. The rear sensor was incredibly hard to get to. I couldn't even find the damn thing for like 10 mins. I had to look up thru the mount of that little shock thing on the drivers side of the engine. It took about an hour and a half to do. I started it up, test drove it, no more check engine light. Hurray!
The car feels a lot stronger than it did with the code 52. When I was test driving it, I decided to check why the throttle was getting stuck a little after revving the engine. I found out that the throttle bracket was getting stuck.
A little blurry but it gets stuck like that. Shouldn't the part I circled be touching each other? It doesn't close all the way by itself.

He said it's probably going to take a while which is why there won't be many updates. Only a couple of pictures of what I'm buying. It'll be getting painted and kitted while it is there also. I'll also be updating more if someone can pick up on what might be going on in picture 3.
I guess I'll also post some pics of the motor and trans coming out again. It's good practice lol.
Only thing left to buy is a good set of coilovers and some sway bars. Probably Tein Flexs with the EDFC and some Tanabe sway bars.
After that, I'll probably start buying new pistons, rods, etc...

Body guy isn't sure but he's probably going to switch firewalls because of the bulge where the heater core goes. The only problem he may run into is that the firewall runs into the floor boards. Once I pull the motor and transmission its getting towed to the shop and they'll start by pulling all the brake and A/C lines out.

Hey Rafa. Long time no talk. RHD swap is taking a lot longer to get under way than I anticipated. I was waiting until I went to school and now that I am, I really don't have time to do anything lol. Work 5 days a week and go to school the 2 days I have off. I pulled the engine on Tues. I started at about 6 and ended at 9. Now this Tuesday I gotta talk to the guy that will be pulling my brake and a/c lines out, rack out, etc... and putting the RHD goodness in after the body shop gets done with the firewall and paint. After that's done, what should I buy next? Tein Flex or Arz front and rear big brake kits? I was leaning more towards suspension for now. Although I can't wait to get my hands on those BBKs.
I bought new inner and outer tie rods from where I work and some new poly rack bushings from suprasport.com for the RHD swap. I just need to get a new set of ball joints.
My project was that I was going to try to make LED tail lights but I failed miserably at taking the lenses off. Apparently toyota thought it would be a good idea to embed 6 metal studs into the lens and into the backing resulting in me cracking them. So im just going to send the good set out and have them blacked out. I will still put LEDs in the front turn signals tho. More updates to come soon...I hope.
Now help me decide. BBK or Teins...

Not saying that ARZ BBK is pimp, but go with the Teins first cuz i like my car's low :bigthumb:
Just get the Teins then get the BBK after. Btw, come by my house sometime so you can see the new supra.

Thank you for fixing the thread Ian lol.
Some write ups/progress threads to give you an idea on what's involved...

Shit, its been a while. I FINALLY sent the car into the shop for the RHD swap. I got it there on Thursday and he said he'd start it this Monday and have it done in 2 weeks so that puts it around the 23rd of this month. Hopefully that will stand true.
This is when we were loading the Supra on to the truck.

After the swap is done, I'm putting the stock motor back in then saving up for some Tein Type Flex coilovers and some swaybars. Anyone have some input on a good set of swaybars?
After I do the suspension, I'm putting the body kit on it and am going to have it painted. Body kit is as follows...
Replica Greddy Gracer bumper
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/100_3161.jpg
Replica Bomex sideskirts and rears

Replica Sunshade
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/100_3172.jpg
Replica Turn Signal Covers
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/100_3173.jpg
And one last picture of it being LHD...
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/100_3168.jpg
I'm still dying for a set of 89+ trim. I can't find a set for the life of me. I cannot get the car painted without the 89+ trim.
I got some new rack boots, inner and outer tie rods, polyurethane steering rack bushings, and a SS braided power steering line. I have to switch the new RHD gauge cluster lights to the LEDs again.

Well, the 23rd came around and no car yet. I am going to check on its progress tomorrow. I'll take a few pictures of what they've accomplished, if anything. The shop is dicking me around with dates. I call every 2 days asking if they need anything and how much longer they think it will be and they always say give us 2 more days. It's starting to get me angry. It's not the fact that they are taking longer than they said, but more of the fact that they can't give me a straight day. If he says, look, we'll have the car done in a month, I'd just say, ok I'll see you in a month. The fact that they keep telling me different dates is starting to get to me.
Anyway, I decided to mess around with the cluster. And the following is just a duplicate post from another thread I started...
The cluster is completely stock. But there is a huge difference to me at least. I messed around at work a little bit on it and it turned out great.
After I scraped all the orange paint off with a razor blade I put this stuff on with a microfiber cloth. It worked awesome to get it to a clear finish.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/IMG00062.jpg
Then I put some of this paint on (Like The Dude recommended)
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/IMG00063.jpg
And it came out like this, (Sorry about the cell phone pics, my g/f has my camera) PS - I know the speedo and tach are a little bit off.

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/IMG00068.jpg
You can see on this one, I spray painted the middle pieces of the needles with a satin black spray paint because I couldn't get to the orange in the center.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/IMG00067.jpg
Also, if you look close enough on that last pic you can see where I penciled in a line for common MPH. 45, 60, and 75, lol.
I also ordered new LEDs for the back of the cluster. 4 red 194 LEDs, 3 super white 194 LEDs, 1 red 74 LEDs, and 5 super white 74 LEDs. The super white 74 LEDs are for the random things on the cluster, like the seatbelt light, turn signal lights, high beam light, etc... Anything with a colored filter on it. I have no clue how the white will look against the filters so it's more of an experiment than anything.

God dammit. So I brought the car to the shop on the 5th of this month. It is now the 24th. It's been 19 days. Guess what they have done so far...
All they did was take the dashboard out of the clip and the gauge cluster and armrest out of my car. :3d_frown: WTF! Nobody in the shop saw me today when I went, which is what I was trying to do. I'm going to call him tomorrow and ask him what he has done so far to see if he's going to bullshit me that much. I'm thinking about taking it to another shop. If tomorrow doesn't go well I think I will.

Lol if the shop wasn't honest today I might have seriously considered it. But they were completely honest with me. I didn't mention anything about being in the shop the day before and he told me all they've done so far was take the dash out of the clip and today they started clearing out the brake lines to cut the firewall out of my car and clip. I told him I might stop by tomorrow, but I probably won't. I just wanted them to get it in gear a little so I won't be dissappointed when I see it.
Oh well, enough ranting.
A quick question though, Tein coilovers or a paint job next?

SMALL UPDATE...
So I get bored easily. And since the car is STILL in the shop, I took the dash board home and decided to paint it because it looked nasty.
Before...
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/IMG00077.jpg
After...
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/100_3202.jpg
And a couple of shots with a decent camera of the gauges/needles...
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/100_3203.jpg
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/100_3205.jpg
And I've put all the LEDs in it but I haven't been able to check what it looks like since I don't have the car yet. He said I should have it back in 2 weeks, and I told him I'm going to try to make the FL2K8 Lexus/Supra meet on the 25th of this month. So we'll see. I also told him that since he took the old front bumper off, to put the new Gracer one on so it'll come back with that. :icon_bigg
That black is my new interior color by the way. I've decided to spray it all a semi flat black instead of what I had planned on my last supra. Which was gloss black with a gloss red accent theme. Now it's going to be semi flat black with red stitching.
A few pics from my old supra...

Didn't read most of the thread (I at least read the first page), but did you consider the digi-dash before opting for the needle-gauge dash? Unless you're not going 1J and it therefore won't work. There aren't many digi-dash cars making themselves known (if many exist at all) so it would be pretty awesome to see another one.

I thought about it, but I'm sticking with the 7M so it's gonna take a little bit to make it work, in the end not worth the trouble because I drive around with the top off frequently and from what I hear, you can't see it when the sun is shining on it.

So I took the old black and red door panels and painted them this way...
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/IMG00004.jpg
I figured the flat black wouldn't look good with the gloss red so I sprayed them all black. I've finished spraying all of the interior so when it comes back I'm just going to swap all of they gray out for this stuff...
I need the inserts that are gray on this in the vinyl on the rear armrests...
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/87%20Supra/Picture085.jpg?t=1216619972
I'm also going to keep the carpet out until I find a good sound deadener. I'm going to put as much of it as I can everywhere. So anyone have any input on a good brand?

I'm going to do coilovers after I buy my Pioneer headunit.
Anyway, another little tiny interior update...
I finished the rear armrest part, almost. Just waiting on someone to sell me the upper vinyl parts on it.
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/100_3206.jpg
Hard to see but I sprayed the speaker grill black and I painted the "Live Sound" in the center red...
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/100_3207.jpg
Another angle of the doors and rear armrests...
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/100_3208.jpg
And a custom blacked out Toyota emblem for the front...
http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/dcrusupra/88%20Supra/100_3210.jpg
I'm going to check out the cars progress tomorrow, should be VERY close to being done.
The only thing left in the interior is to paint the interior trim around the quarter panel windows, get a lot of sound deadener/insulation, put the black carpet from my old Supra in, and rewrap the seats.
Another question, in Europe/Japan/Aus and wherever else they are RHD, is the drivers seat power like our drivers seat here? If so, 2 power seats here I come. :biglaugh:
