Is this a mod, a redneck job (I'm from Louisiana so I can say that), or something from the factory? Does anyone else's look like this?

redneck job, should be a fuse there. I think its a 40a, not sure though. Find a picture of the fuse box diagram.

No, that's not normal. If memory serves me correctly, you should have an EFI fuse there.

That is a fusible link... and the yes that is done pretty redneck... you can buy a new one from the dealer for 7 bucks... and it is a lot nicer than that.

A redneck replacement for a stock part :D

Should be a fusible link, essencially just a wire with two female crimp connectors

This should be your part right here:
Part 82210C
http://cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/EPC/291410/catalog.aspx?F=8202&P=1

It's for the alternator, 100A, but you should know that if you looked at your fuse box cover :biglaugh:

Nah, that's too clean to be a redneck job. Redneck would be bare wire taped down securely with duct tape... ya'll know that.

Fusible links are available as insulated wire or in sealed units (such as the two right below it). AFAIK, older MKIII's came with the wire version and newer MKIII's got the sealed version. They're cross compatible though, so if yer look'n fur purdy...

I believe the stock fusible link is black, and that they're color coded. I replaced mine with a standard sealed 100 amp fuse from A.Z. Just make sure the holes in the legs are the right size for the bolts that hold it in place.

from the "how to check codes" thread:

I used a big paper clip, which I leave in the back of my car

:biglaugh: that was a pretty good one, though.

For those who demand the best the Toyota Special Service Tool for checking codes is part number 09843-18020. SPX OTC will be happy to make this little jumper up for you. I can only imagine what it costs :)

Yeah, the mall has been crazy! I wouldn't want to park an MKIII anywhere near it!!

That is factory actually. Most OG 87's and 86.5's have fuseable links in that spot. My 2 87's did and all 86's do

In your case, it looks like someone has previously removed it. but for the records sakes...

No doubt. The 7M adapter harness for my factory TCCS tester/simulator was so eye watering expensive from them I ended up having to make one on my own.

My 86.5 has that but it's in much better shape. No bare wires showing.

Probably about as much as the simulator itself I'd wager...
