i've been speculating on doing something different. and this is something i don't remember seeing or reading about.
since i seem to be having a hard time finding nice 88 corners, but finding plenty of clean 89 corners. i decieded to try this.
now i will be recieving the 89 corners soon, in immaculate condition.and a spare stock grill to fill in the gap.
any one else try this before. pics would help if anyone has done it!!

OMG! so are you proposing having a pre 89 front (no grill split) with 89+ corners!?!?

I was JUST thinking about that...and just got on to post about it! that's SOOO weird!!! I was just looking at this photochop mock up I did to see what my car could look like with the new corners and grill pieces, and new rims....and a spoiler and new trim. lol...

I still don't believe the coincidence, because its so weird AND i've been having a LOT of coincidences like this that feel like they are "meant to be..."

and i even read what was going on in general discussion and found this, at the top...before posting my topic. i mean what are the chances i'd go through my 'random' photos and think of bringing this up today as you did? man.... if i find a nice car for sale in northern california that i want to buy...i will consider this week a gift from god. :P

A guy in St. Louis did it to his 86.5 a few years ago before it was totaled.

theres a link below the pic. it says he took two grills and extended one by about 8" and had to fab up some brackets

Pre89 turn signals with a 89+ bumper looks good. Other way around looks like ass.

pics of that?

wouldn't that compromise what grille is left for cooling? or is all that pretty much handled by the lower grille...

This doesnt look too bad, it looks different. So i guess it will look nice with the right grill fitment.

i disagree. i hate the pre89 turns on a 89+ car. looks like the car is retarded. the other way around however looks pretty bad ass, the biggest problem would be the new long grill...

I was going to try the conversion on my 88...had the 89+ corners and a spare grill to use for the extra space, but realized that you have to modify how the upper bumper cover mounts to the frame, because the mounting bracket is in the way of the newer style corners.

There is also no where (unless fab'd of course) for the inside of the corner light to mount up to.

So, I decided to wait until I pull the bumper for painting before I put these in.

Am I the only MKIII owner not trying to stick 89+ parts on pre-89's? :dunno: lol I have an 88 front end on my 91. :D

*Puts on flame suit.*

Pre-89 front end and 89+ everything else looks best, imo. I think the earlier front end looks more aggressive. I personally like the larger turn signals too.

Pre-89 lights on Pre-89 = Good
89+ lights on 89+ = Good
Pre-89 lights on 89+ = Bad
89+ lights on Pre-89 = Not sure, but I think I like it. Would be better with Euros.

count me in. *covers face* i'm not sure i'm familliar with the level of argument on this one but I agree that the pre-89 front looks meaner and that's the right word for it. I do like the 89+ front end a lot but if you have a black or dark colored car and want it to look badass the pre 89 front will do a better job. 89+ just looks pretty. (not a bad thing just different)

thats also what i thought. wouldn't putting wider lights on the 89+ make it harder for the radiator to breathe?

for the grille, i'm guessing he took 2 pre 89 grille's and trimmed one and somehow attached them together? only way it would seem possible unless you get a custom grill.

wow , this one looks really good
i agree with you guys on 88 lights would not look good on a 89 bumper. but 89 lights on an 89 looks pretty good. just the grill part will be a little tricky!!
