What are the symptoms of either an over filled or under filled auto tranny. This is an NA. I know that the fluid will look foamy if it is over filled, but will it quit shifting between gears if it is over or under filled???

If it were a 5 speed, that is what I would expect, but as I said, this is an Auto.

Auto's have many many "clutches"
Underfill = slip
Overfill I'd guess would = Foam and slip
(never done it so not really sure)

nah it wouldnt slip wit low fluid. you would just find it very hard to engage a gear in a manual.

id vote for foam and slip for over filling an auto

check it with the engine running and warmed up (drive for a few miles) before you check the level cycle through all the ranges of the box 3 times and finally put it into either park or neutral

This last Saturday I dumped out over a 1/2 gallon of (auto) tranny fluid from a shop over filling it (back in March and the car has been sitting since) and the transmission would not shift before I dumped out the fluid. After dumping it out, it shifted just fine.
See my thread on it here:
