It looks like I am going to have to go the 1 piece drive shaft route. I'd like to see 500 or so WHP on my car. How much can their shafts handle. Also, is the steel shaft stronger than the alloy or do they beef up the alloy one to make it the same strength.

In the end, I'd probably go with the steel as this expense is already eating away at my coilover funds. I can roll on my bling bling 17" VIP rims at the stock Cressida ride height . . . it's just too truck like. And I cannot roll with the stock 15x6.5s cuz of the 2JZ powa!

Their 1 piece driveshaft would not have any problem with 500whp.

I know one thing you have to be a little carefull about with a 1 piece driveshaft is rpm (driveshaft rpm, not engine rpm). If you had 4.30 gears and an engine that had a 8k rpm redline and you wanted to drive it at redline in 5th gear, you would need a bigger diameter custom driveshaft. Unless your going for land speed records though, it's not usually a problem, because you shouldn't be driving 160mph+.

Aaron: But it just starts getting fun over 150 ;)
(Diameter wouldn't help though)

Yeah, because of the length, you can only go so big in diameter.
I'll ask Jeff about the specs tomorrow.

It's the length that affects critical speed on a 1 piece Aaron :(

We have a stock SUV type thing here on the market that had to be factory speed limited to 180 kph as even with a 2 piece the shaft is too long.... DOH
(Mk3 1 piece would probably be half the length )

Thanks for the replies. I will go ahead and give the a ring myself so I can ask them a bunch more things . .. weight, how fast they can get err dun, etc. I will order through Driftmotion as I am in need of other junk.

BTW can I exchange the Blue silicone couplings that came in my 3" uni IC kit? I didn't realize I could have had black. I am on the anti-bling team as far as engine goes.

Ship the blue ones back and I'll put the black ones with the rest of the order.

Ok, I talked to jeff and here the deal.

alloy is not for lighter weight. It actually deals with torsional stress better than steel e.g. better for full drag race dump clutch instant lock type of junk. On the down side people have more vibration/balance issues with alloy.

Steel is nearly as light as the alloy one. And will be fine and dandy holding my planned 5-600 whp. He was a little confused when I said Cressida :D . . . I love it when people don't what it is.

Biggest bonus ever, he could have made it today and had it shipped tomorrow . . . NICE! Jeff says that is standard if you call before lunch.

So I will be crawling under the Cressida tomorrow to take measurements. Hehehe . . . not matter what I said he still wants me to measure the bolt holes on my diff cuz he's still sketchy about the Cressida sharing things with the MK3.

I am glad this drive shaft fiasco is almost over.

Thanks Aaron. I will be hitting you up for a few more things. BTW may be you should include the Cressida compatible on some products at Driftmotion.com .. . I couldn't hurt things ;)

Cheers,
Jago

Ok called Jeff back the next day my shaft is 53 inches, which is longer the MK3 at 45 inches. He was going to double check my bolt pattern before he said yes .. . said he'd give me a call in a hour. I wait 2 hrs and call him . .. he says "they" will call me back .. . again 2 hrs later I call he repeats. Well that day turns into the next day, which is today. I am just gonna see what my local shop can whip up cuz I am not gonna beg someone to provide service.

Cheers

Wow, just reread my post. Seems that I have been a little edgy since that last shaddy deal from texas. I need to chill out . . . just called them back like a normal human being and they were normal human beings too so they took care of me right away.

320 + 20 Shipping from Cali to S Carolina . .. that's decent, thanks. Driftmotion rocks! I want a nifty decal to put on my car do you got any?

Probably, but there has been this big ugly thing trying to get a front shaft for my car. It took me many hours over 3 weeks to figure out that you need the JZA70 front drive shaft for JZ motors not the too short MA70 one. And for about a week I've had a WTB up for a JZA70 front shaft with no offers. So this is where I am at less wasted time, lighter driveline, and servicable U-joints.

Well, I finally got back from China and crawled under the car for a test fit. It fit like factory. I am very pleased with it.

Thanks Aaron for making that avaliable to the community.

Cool, I'm glad it worked out well. All the guys at Jaws Gear are great people to deal with, I'm proud to sell their products.

Do they make a 1-piece steel driveshaft for the W58?

Hey Aaron

This 1 piece ds bolts directly from the tranny to the diff with no center bearing needed...right. The center bearing in my ds (the support one) broke. How easy is this to install or would it be just cheaper to replace the center bearing support. The price for the 1 piece is tempting so I am thinking about it.

P.S - My supra is handicapped because of this...I miss driving my 1J

LMK, thanks.

Andy

The one piece ds is very easy to install, and it eliminates the center support bearing. Just slip it into the trans and 4 bolts to the diff.

What would be the best option for a 200MPH run? :hsugh:
