How to tune using every resource of the car?

ok, so obviously tuning with the electronics like an safc or maft is a given, but what other ways are good ways to tune and how many people have had a good experience doing tuning with fuel pressure and timing versus tuning it all out with the safc or maft or whatever you use? just looking for some experiences and information on these other ways of tuning.

fuel press is simple, think of it as a broad fuel scaler. you really should tune FP first, then fine tune via whatever tuning device you have.

messing w/timing on a boosted car is NOT a good idea (other than retarding it).
