What kinds of MPG's are you guys seeing. My super monitor hasnt fully reset yet and after 80 or so miles its at 13.1mpg. The car is all stock, cats gutted and thats it. I was curious to see what these cars get normally. Will I see over 20?

Thanks!

If everything is running like it's suppost to, then if you stay out of boost, then 30's shouldn't be too far away ;).

High 20's low 30's would be awesome. Now if this damn super monitor would hurry up and count that far up.. lol!

I got to thinking about this earlier today actually, almost made me hesitate trying to find a turbo MKIII over an NA one... But it seems to not be too bad at all as far as mpg goes.

I usually get about 19ish with a 50/50 mix of city highway and my own heavy footed escapades. Thats with a lex afm, 550's (that's in question right now though), and full 3 inch exhaust with no cats.

Kind off topic... Just wondering since this is a gas mileage related thread.
How big (capacity wise) are an MKIII's gas tanks? Do they vary from different model/trim of the car or is it all the same?

All Mk3's have a 70 litre fuel tank. I usually get 220miles to a tankful.

Press and hold set on the Super Monitor.. that resets it... And that thing is not accurate, mine says I get 30MPG when I run Open Downpipe on the highway for two hours. And it says I get 23.7 MPG City. Doesn't seem likely to me. Also, I get about 350 Miles out of my tank which would mean I only get 18.9 Miles per Gallon Highway.

Sorry i shouldve reworded the post. Its been reset. It just takes forever to get back to average. Its kinda depressing when it says 13mpg when you look down at it.

So far looks like mid-low 20's modded and upper 20's stock.

Thanks for the info!

EPA estimates for the turbo are 18 and 23 (City / Highway).

I have never managed to get over 23mpg myself.

I've seen 30MPG highway but I'm usually around 15MPG in the city.

The highest I've seen mine was just shy of 23 mpg...this was last week when I had to do alot of freeway driving. And this is according to my super monitor, which appears to be pretty accurate. I've calculated the old fashion way and they are consistent. I don't believe anyone would get 30 mpg for this car. I am a professional driver and know how to drive to get every mpg out of a car. 23 mpg is about all you're gonna squeeze out of a Supra, unless you're traveling on straight, flat-ass freeways for a hundred miles without stopping on a daily bases.

When my Supra was bone stock, driving back from SILV (4 hour drive) it got around 26MPG...

Now that it's modified, the MPG has dropped significantly... :naughty: Since I have added the FCON, I can watch my gas gauge go down just cruising at 80 on the freeway...but that could also be due to my funky o2 sensor, it throws a code every once in a while, but it has been replaced twice...:dunno:

The car got 23 mpg on the freeway going 80 mph today. I can get from 23- 28 on the open road. Always a bit better at a lower speed.

Near stock '91 supra turbo, auto and full 3 inch exhaust.

stock I get 13mpg city and 20mpg highway. I know i've got some stuff wrong but I can't figure it out, maybe its the O2 sensor.

I usually hit 16mpg mixed city/freeway. I just completed an 800 mile round trip almost all highway and didn't fare much better.

I wonder what's up???

For those that haven't, might be a good idea to replace O2 sensor. That might help you a fair amount. Just a thought.

Check the condition of your wiring also, the o2 sesor wires are close to a high heat source (even though they are sheilded), but +15 years can and will leave wires brittle and needing a good repair job....

I read this and all I come away with is somebody gutted their cat, and published on the internet. As long as you have a spare $5000 or so, don't sweat it.

Doesn't impact MPG really at all from my findings. I got the same actual mileage with the 4.30 as I did with the 3.73

I love how, now that gas prices are going up again, there are two new threads about MPG in two days.

starscream5000

:werd: The gas mileage shouldn't change too much between the two as long as you stay in the lowest vacuum that you can while maintaing cruising speed.

With RC 550's, Walbro and 12PSI every now and then I still get 18-20MPG.. I don't do much higway driving so I'm not sure on that..

My celica's about the same. 80MPH in 5th gear is about 4000RPMs and 100 is at about 5000RPMs. I manage ~25mpg out of that li'l bugger. (yes i know. this was to determine mileage on the supe. :p )

My grey N/A got around 23 25 mpg on the highway, but that was babying it quite a bit, cruise control on 60 to 65. It bothered me how high the rpms were just cruising.

Guys...do you not know how you're supposed to calculate economy?! Please do not use the Super Monitor, or the gas gauge. Who knows what the Super Monitor is doing...and it's way off for anyone with upgraded injectors. The gas gauge is incredibly inaccurate, too.

It's very simple to do it the proper way--with any car.

1. Fill your tank up to maximum--let the pump run with the trigger locked, and pop to a stop by itself.
2. Reset your trip meter.
3. Next time you want to get gas (which can be at any time), get a full tank again. Check how many gallons are necessary to get you back up to the full click-off point; this is the amount of gas you have burned since your last visit. Now check the trip meter--that's how far you have driven since your last visit. Divide the trip meter number by the number of gallons on the pump--and you have a real-world, incredibly accurate measure of your milage.
4. Don't forget to reset your trip meter so you can get another reading the next time you fill up.

Please, people calculate and report these numbers, so we can get some real data on Supra MPG ratings.

My car has exceeded 23.5MPG on all-highway driving, with a bit of traffic, about 50% A/C use, and an average speed of about 80MPH (when not in traffic). More typical highway economy is 20-21MPG, with occasional aggressiveness. With extremely aggressive city driving, I have never gotten below 15.5MPG; usually, the average city/highway number is about 19.

My car has a number of modifications, including 550cc injectors, MAFT-Pro Speed-Density, and is set at 14PSI boost on the CT-26. I also use the MAFT to enforce an AFR of 16.0 during cruise, to safely save a bit of fuel.

Driving like a granny I have seen just shy of 34 mpg imperial (28.4 US)on the highway. I have, drop in K&N, 3" turbo back exhaust everything else stock. I avarage about 25 mpg for day to day use.

The RPMs you are doing have a lot to do with you being NA and either having the stock 4.10 rear end, or the sport 4.30. Just as a comparison, my Metro does 3750 RPMs at 70 and my 3G does 2600 RPMs at 70.

The gearing definitely determines RPM, of course...but RPM is not nearly as significant as you would think when concerned with fuel economy.

This is a good article that discusses the factors that effect fuel economy, with real data, including varying RPM: The Factors Affecting Fuel Efficiency. (http://www.omninerd.com/2006/07/16/articles/57)

last time I filled up I checked and it came out to 17 mpg city/highway driving. Though, this is with intake/exhaust/maft pro/ebc at 12lbs and boosting hard all the time.
