Well I finally got around to putting together a build or bolt on thread to be honest. I know how important pics are in a build thread so i will make sure to include them.

First the background.

Picked this car up in January of 04 in the middle of winter from a the original owner. Car had 64k miles on it and allot of dust from just sitting in this guys garage. His wife drove it to work about 5 blocks away from their house so it didn’t get used much. The owner had to sell due to cancer and I was the first to answer to the ad. Picked the car up that day and drove it home in the snow and right then and there decided I’d have to wait till spring to drive it. Soooo the car sat for 4 months without me telling anyone that I had just bought the car, didn’t drive it, didn’t do anything to it, the car just sat in my garage till spring.

The very first pic

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/3243/dscf0119tf0.jpg

Come spring I finally got the chance to drive the car and I was stoked! Warmed her up and took off, about 4 blocks down the road the engine started to overheat while I was locked in traffic. Shut the engine off and got stuck a few cars away from where I could turn off. Started the car again just in time to see plumes of steam and smoke creep out from under the hood. I had enough exhaust gasses in my cooling system that my radiator just cracked in half. No milkshake fortunately.

Guess which cylinder blew.

http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/2248/im000370gs6.jpg

So I took to the hg change and for 1 week that 16 year old tore away at the engine bay trying to figure out wtf he was doing. When I started the work, I didn’t know how to change oil. I just said screw it and went for it. 1 week later, it was done and running great!

Installed a new oem radiator,
Oem HG
Oem gaskets on everything I could get my hands on and ended up with a mostly stock specification supra.

http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/5236/im000373ic2.jpg

The car drove awesome, especially out on our little proving grounds!

http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/2686/endresultyk7.jpg

but after a while I started to get bored and was no longer content, the car left me wanting more... so i did more, i'll keep updating as i organize my pics and see if this thread takes off or not. This will be sort of a journal of my work, hope you guys like.

After the initial reliability work was finished i had a chance to start on some of the performance stuff. BASIC performance stuff, i started out with a

3'' cooleeze megamouth DP, That was then , today im running a DDP and am loving it!, well when the car runs that is.
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/2301/dpoc1.jpg

and a K&N fipk, while i was down there i figured i'd go ahead and do more maintenance. The original accordian hose was gettin worn and cracked and the new unit was only $35 so why not?

It gave me noticable difference in driving characteristics and let me hear my turbo for the first time. Somewhere in there i rewired my fog lights to run independently.

This would be my setup for a loooong time until i came accross a turbo 300z that gave a good run for my money.

Only took it by about a foot but it was too close for comfort and once again, i wasnt content....

Found out that my stock Bypass valve took a S#%t so i went for the popular Bosch 110 install, Valve cost me about $25 shipped and the added peices needed added up to about $10, I highly recomend this to anyone looking to recirculate!

http://img481.imageshack.us/img481/4308/imga0633uo7.jpg

Its pretty darn straight forward you just gotta source the hoses, i hit up my local schuks for some hose and gave the dude at the counter the bypass valve to find a hose to fit onto it, i saw him go arround and ask everyone behind the counter wtf it was he was holding and no one could figure it out till they asked me, I love it! freakin schucks!

I met a few local Supra guys and got hooked to the whole environment, i have to say that one of the main reasons i stuck to the supra scene was because i saw the potential of our cars through theirs. Thats when i accepted the realization that stock,..... sucks. Its "Nice", but i was left wanting more from my car and i knew it could deliver.

Can't wait to see the progress Luis. You have such a clean car to start with and thats half the battle! Keep the pics coming, thats how you keep peoples attention :) That blue car in the pics is fugly I hope he has new wheels...

When are you swapping in the 5spd????

The 5sp will have to wait, i hear everyone bitch about the auto's limitations so i've decided not to give up on it and push it to see what i can do. Kind of go against the grain for the time being.

Lookin nice Luis!
Eager to see what you're going to be doing here.
And I'm going to have to agree with Nate for once :biglaugh:, you've got a hell of a clean car and that certainly is half the battle. I don't think I'd be pissed off at my car so much if it looked better.

Knowing I was going to be pushing the hp and boost to the next level I decided once again, preventative maintenance would be more than necessary so I took on Ravens guide on how to shim the accumulators on the A340e. I hope this can be used as a form of reference for anyone who might be looking at doing this in the future. If you have any questions I’ll try to edit the answers into this post so it doesn’t get scattered across the thread. I’m covering this as in depth as I can because SM doesn’t have its own guide and people are lazy sometimes when it comes to searching other sites. ( I am one of those )

I give all credit of information to Raven97990 without his thread and help I never would have been able to learn about this nor pull it off.
His thread is here -> http://supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=267655

The Reason for doing this: the shims in the accumulators help make the shift points from 1-2, and 2-3 slightly more aggressive, By installing slightly thicker shims the transmission will decrease shift time but will also cause harsher shifts, driving around half throttle causes a jerk, full throttle not so much. Tightening the kick down cable and running a larger oil cooler for the trans will also help.

As I went along with this I learned some things too and must stress,
-Don’t over torque the bolts; most of these parts are very sensitive to overtorquing.
-Keep track of where they go, they are specific to their individual hole so NO MIXING!
-Preferably do this with the tranny removed; ( I’m pretty much a badass so I did it without removing :) )
-Take your time and stay ORGANIZED, you don’t want to lose a part.

You need the following to complete this:
Orange oil pan gasket maker from Toyota ( 00295-01281 )
New oil strainer, unless your cheep like that (35330-30011)
( 2 ) Shims, Preferably .80 inches wide. ( or you can get shims within (.6'' - .85'') wide. The thickness will depend on you, the thicker you go the more aggressive the shift, I went with 5/8'' (noticeable difference but not enough for me to get annoyed, and I’m picky!) I went to a local machine shop and had them cut them out of some steel rod, it'd be a good idea to bevel the edges a bit to keep them from causing any damage.
Paper! Plan your attack; I made a cardboard diagram of the valve body with the individual bolts I would be dealing with plus a written diagram of everything I’d be messing with. As I took of each bolt I taped them to the cardboard so I knew exactly where they went.
Molly Lube, Dissolving grease ( not pictured ), engine assembly lube helped me out because seeing as how I did this with the tranny still in the car, gravity had a tendency to pull everything back apart as I tried to reinstall everything. As I installed things back in I smothered them in molly lube so they would stay in place while I assembled.

http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/8041/dscf0963ri3.jpg
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/4323/dscf0991ya7.jpg

For starters if you’re going to remove the transmission you HAVE to tilt the engine back a bit,

Slacken then engine mount bolts so the engine can have some play,
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/8789/dscf0935wn4.jpg

Remove the stuff up front so the engine can tilt and nothing will hit,
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/9994/dscf1001vh7.jpg

Remove the exhaust,
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/9708/dscf0927pl5.jpg
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/390/dscf0947we6.jpg

Remove everything that may be damaged stretched, or interfere with the tilt.
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/6514/dscf1002wf8.jpg

Disconnect the 3 plugs next to the starter, and pull the dipstick out, its in two pieces so the top part will pull away from the part connected to the pan.
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/4906/dscf0939tm3.jpg

Remove the rear support for the transmission
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/3453/dscf0941lo7.jpg

And your drive shaft + Carrier bearing.
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/1183/dscf0942qg1.jpg

Get some extensions; the top two bolts are BASTARDS!

I said F#%# it with removing the tranny because I have no friends and took this on by myself.

After not doing all of that ^ :) I just drained my tranny from the pan, and removed the sucker; this is when you take a good look at the condition of your tranny and what’s left of your clutches.
http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/8131/dscf0955uq6.jpg
The pan has 4 magnets on the bottom there to collect any metal residue that gets into your fluid, as parts wear out, clutch packs in particular they leave sediment in the fluid that is trapped on these magnets and keeps them from floating around until you change your fluid.
http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/5681/dscf0957tz2.jpg

I don’t know how bad that is but the fact that there was even some residue on there didn’t make me happy, meh, the show must to go on, I didn’t feel like changing clutch packs that night.

Now that the pan is off take a good look at your valve body and find the following,

3 Selenoids ( disconnect the cables going to them )
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/4116/dscf0966pu9.jpg

2 Metal tubes, carefully with a screwdriver ease them out slowly.
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/8456/dscf0965ln3.jpg

The kick down cable.
http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/7043/dscf0988ap6.jpg

And the bigass oil strainer, just take that thing off. Hopefully your not cheep and got a replacement.
http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/4978/dscf0990hd3.jpg

Take a GOOD look at the position of your shift lever, make sure it’s all like this when you reinstall. The top part that looks like an h has 1 bolt holding it in, don’t remove that bolt completely, and just slacken it by a couple rotations.
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/9652/dscf0964mh2.jpg

After you have removed said items its time for the valve body, 1 by 1 find the bolts needed and make sure to have a way to know where they came from. I have no friends available for this project so my imaginary friend jack had to be there to hold the valve body up while I removed the last few bolts.
http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/5775/dscf0984qr1.jpg

If your doing this while the tranny is in the car as soon as you take the valve body off your going to start cussing because a bunch of fluid is going to start seeping all over you, LOTS, I measured close to 2 quarts so I had a plastic tub handy. Also in that mess two little f#*!@ers are going to fall out,

A ball and spring
And a fat spring
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/3811/dscf0981fj6.jpg

Snatch those up before you lose them.
This is where they go, the ball and spring go in the hole to the upper left (install with the ball facing outwards), and the fat spring goes in the hole on the upper right. I also marked the only two accumulators we're going to be messing with. The b-2 and c-2 ones.
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/525/dscf0979eg7.jpg

This is quick, when removing the accumulators if you removed the tranny push down on them so the spring will shoot them out and you can get to them, if they're in the car still, just look out when you poke at them and they'll do the rest. Just make sure you know which hole they came out of.

http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/5177/dscf0962kq2.jpg
Take your sexy new shims and put them inside of the accumulator in the order shown
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/8428/dscf0972yc9.jpg

For reference here is the width of the spring (.783''), and inner diameter of the accumulator. ( .877'')
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/2281/dscf0975lv0.jpg
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/4716/dscf0977qd0.jpg

Re-install as removed taking care not to block the tiny holes inside from where you removed the accumulator. The spring goes into its labeled round hole & the Ball and spring piece goes in its little rectangle crevice. ( This is where I used molly lube to hold them in place)

I had to get help from my friend Jack and Mrs. 2x6 to hold the valve body up while I reinstalled the bolts in EXACT order. Hand tight is tight enough.

Reinstall the two tubes, Reconnect the selenoids, and bolt up your new strainer. Now is the time to have a look at the shift lever and make sure its as it was when you started this. Tighten down that bolt we loosened before that holds down the h looking piece. Then make sure to re-attach your kickdown cable, DONT FORGET THIS.
http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/2701/dscf0992nh8.jpg

Now you just clean off those magnets so the next time you take off the pan you can see just how much clutch you've burnt, use your silicone gasket maker and reinstall the pan.

Fill with fluid
Start the car,
Monitor fluid because it will suck up what’s in the pan, ( remember all that fluid that got dumped? )
Once the car has been running for a few minutes giving time for the molly lube and everything to be full of oil, Shift the car from P-R-N-D-2-1, a few times.

Then you can tighten down the kick down cable from up above by the throttle linkage, I have yet to do this but will cover it later.

That’s pretty much it!
Try to finish before daybreak.

Posted this before to help someone with their shiming but it fits here too, i had to do this because of my dumb move of mixing shims during the original headgasket work.

Here is the link to the TSRM page that shows how to do it - > http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=EM&Page=8

This is what you need for it, + a feeler gauge
The tool you need you can get from snap on for like $15. Part # YA8825
http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/8560/dscf1020no3.jpg

if you know what that looks like, looks like a pocketknife with a bunch of little peices of thin metal of different thicknesses you stick between the valve shim and the cam when the lobe is facing AWAY from the shim.

main thing is to get the engine to this point.
http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/98/dscf1011oi9.jpg

You need to remove the stuff upfront to make it easier to turn the crank.
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7484/dscf1013rn0.jpg

Once you figure out how far off your shims are say you have a gap of .012 well you need to replace that shim with another that is .002 thicker.

I had to have a friend/local supraguy Gerrard (boostedstr8six) help me out, otherwise i would have spent an extra day trying to get these shims out. thnx dude!

Check the TSRM for your crank position and what valves to adjust at certain crank positions, also the gaps required for the intake and exhaust cams.
This is how you use it, i tried to put the ends around the lobe itself it didnt really work :icon_conf
http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/3736/dscf1017vl3.jpg

so you have to put it on the rough part of the cam as shown and have the long arm on the tool come over and push on the shim, you push the handle towards the center of the head and the arm will push the bucket down. you then take the smaller little hook that comes with the tool and VERY CAREFULLY place the hook between the cam and the tiney lip/edge of the bucket next to the shim, leave room for the shim to pop out while retaining the bucket in the down position at the same time. ( its hard and with the pressuer from the valve spring it gets harder it helps to have a friend handy and a thin magnetic screwdriver.)

once you get the shim out put it on the micrometer, do your math and put in the shim that you need to get it within spec. it does not have to be EXACT but using SLIGHTLY tighter tollerences by about .002 is what i did to compensate for it loosening after seeting more after running. But be carefull not to leave them to tight, you can have them tight enough that when the engine is runnign the valve will hang open and you will get horriible compression.

After it was all said and done my setup ended up looking like this.
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/6561/dscf1019tc2.jpg

until now.

I didnt get the garage because my parents werent willing to let me take over it for 4 months so i get to work out in our carport. That means the work i get done is dependent on the weather, it just snowed but before it did i had some sunny days to get started.

This is what was left after a long summer in 06 of some hard and constant driving. I learned what FC is, boiled over more than a few times in the mountains, killed a set of tires, and managed to make my speedo die.

updates

nothing has been done to the actual car this week due to Snow, 30 degree weather, the flu! and me having to spend my weekend in seattle.

BUT i did make some headway in the parts department,

Today!

I got my intercooler pipes done finnally from my lazy pipe bender, took the guy a week to do 15 minutes worth of work :rant2: ! I finnally went in today and asked wtf was taking him so long and he finished up the crappy pipes, but they will do for now, ( i know crush bends are inneficient and fugly!):nono:
http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/8158/dscf3083zb0.jpg
made the ends a bit longer than needed to leave room for cutting or little bends.

UPS made me one happy camper today!

got my new BFgoodrich KDW II's today! ::w00t::
I just gotta pull the tires off the white rims and see about getting them repainted :naughty:
http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/6521/dscf3095mo8.jpg

also summit delivered their supercooler, internal thermostatic relay to turn on the fan when it reaches anything over 170F, and an automatic cutoff to prevent overcooling! Just waiting on some fittings to actually have it hooked up and operational but alteast i can get it mounted.
http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/9800/dscf3087sc8.jpg

http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/9927/dscf3104bh9.jpg

i also started the mockup and measurements for the oil cooler and decided on a final mounting location.

Crush bent IC piping = NO GO! Get a few 180 bends from JC whitney and I can weld them up for you.

I feel so hurt that you haven't invited me over to help, or at least to stand around watching you work. j/k

Seriously though, give me a ring.

Today

I actually covered some ground it being my day off and all. Not as far as i'd like but its soemthing.

The next thing on my list of things to do is to get my suspension work done. In order to take off the rear struts i gotta get to the TEMS sensors and actuators but in order to do that the rear panels need to come off.

anyone looking to upgrade shocks i reccomend you read this.

^ he may not have that car anymore but he sure did allot for the community!

anyway after sitting for so long my interior was pretty dusty, hell the whole car is covered in dirt!

http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/4909/dscf3112tu7.jpg

started pulling out the carpet and found a bunch of gear oil soaked in the carpet and into the wood. If anyone has any ideas on how to get that stuff out of the padding let me know, it smells like year old mcdonalds. I'm pretty sure where my cars taxicab smell comes from, that and the fact that the previous owners were smokers so part of this build is cleaning and deoderizing.
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/1973/dscf3114ip7.jpg

good lord do i find weird stuff in my cars,
a wheel, flexplate, casio calculator, bandaid, ATF, golf teas, and a broken cell phone!
http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/4677/dscf3115xy8.jpg

anyway! i had to get some new stuff knowing i'd be torqing allota stuff down and doing allot of late night working. It kinda sucks spending as much on tools as i am on my car.

right as i was finishing that fedex showed up w/ the two brass fittings i needed, but DAYUM do they add allota extra stuff!
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/6981/dscf3128iv3.jpg

after that intermission i got my wheels ready head out and get the tires pulled off, those horrible horrible tires, i actually made a 15 sec pass on those :3d_frown:
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/254/dscf3129ti8.jpg
http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/6158/dscf3130eh9.jpg

As soon as i did that the Big Brown truck showed up with more stuff! Wont be needing this for a while but i'll probably test it on my truck, thanks mattjk for the recomendation!
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/5523/dscf3135kz5.jpg

got done with that and getting ready to break the bolts loose on my calipers when i got a call that my custom bracket was done! so i headed down to the sheet metal shop and picked this up, its cheep and strong enough to hold the cooler, but soft enough for me to bend it for a perfect fit.
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/6756/dscf3136km9.jpg

by the time i was done with all that the sky started to threaten me with rain and a sharp drop in temp so thats it for today. Im hoping for warm evenings since i dont have very many days off in the next few weeks.

How the fuck do you get the back struts in???? they want to slide in but the gold colored bushing in the back where the bottom slides in just wont let it budge. Im getting pissed, going to just go at it tomorrow with a file to get the fitment right. Any tips?

finally got the lower pin for the rear struts to go in, took some coaxing but i finally tapped the sucker in, thnx john1 and stan for the advice.

http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/683/79140487la3.jpg

torqued those down to 110ftlbs on rear and front, and torqued the pin holding the upper wishbone on the front down to 110fltbs aswell.

made sure everything fit back together with no rubbing or clipping of anything, i'll have to take the brakes and lines off again to finish cleaning but atleast that part is taken care of and i can start putting in more new stuff.

I started working on my engines fuel supply, Redoing the whole shabang from the tank to the injectors so it will completely different :icon_bigg

I had some help today from Gerrard (boostedstr8six) that made a world of a difference.

I had to open up some room to work on the rail and get to most of the stuff i needed to clean/deal with.

Just a few minor things to wrap up before Centralia...;)

I still think you should go with a full 2.5" hardpipe setup. There are a couple of ways to do it so you can use the Bosch BPV for now and then switch to a Tial without having to hack up the pipes too much.

Looking forward to helping with the rest of it but mostly the MAF-T PRO.

http://img76.imageshack.us/img76/7501/dscf3301fq7.jpg

and finnally finished up the AFPR, cut some hose to size and i geuss the mounting bracket wasnt designed for the tems plastic cover so i had to shave/bevel off about 2-3mm of material but the fit is good, (anyone know how to get the guage to sit straight up, the damn thing gets to tight as i screw in)

UPDATES

Today I finally got around to changing my fuel pump and installing in the new stuff. I have seen a few threads floating around asking some basic questions so I decided to just make a how to out of my update.

Keywords: Walbro Fuel Pump Install Gas Tank Removal

anyone who doesnt trust my way, go ahead and do it this way,
http://www.jblmk3.com/walbro.html

First of all in order to get to the pump I had to drop the tank. :::sigh::: but oh well the first thing to do is remove the 4 screws holding in the plastic piece around the fuel filler hole.
http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/7055/xx3tb9.jpg

After that the main bolts holding the tank in place and the lines connected to it need to be removed as well. It is preferable that you drain the tank before hand most likely by siphoning the gas out w/ a tube but I couldn’t get it all out so I did it w/ the tank half full.

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/4896/xx0rz9.jpg

There are two electrical clips that need to be disconnected, those can be reached through a small hole in the hatch, or you can wait till the tank hangs up on them to find them and re-solder the clips, up to you.

http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/8993/x35ox0.jpg

There are two bolts up front by the differential that adjust the height of the tank, and 4 bolts near the rear bumper support, those need to be broken loose but not completely removed.

I used the help of my old friends jack and jill to help hold up the weight.

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/9803/xx2ac2.jpg

After the tank is down and all that dirt has fallen on your face pull it out of the way and take a look at your fuel filter tucked back inside above the differential, now is a good time to change it. Always do as much preventative maintenance as possible.

http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/8823/xxfp4.jpg

The two fuel lines connected are a bit tough to reach but w/ the tank out it’s a breeze. I used a WIX replacement filter but if you want the Toyota one here is the part #

http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/879/x32av9.jpg

After that is hooked up you can move onto the actual Fuel pump, in this case I’m doing the Walbro 255lph pump.

I am a bit anal about dirt so I washed off my gas tank not only to continue the cleaning process but to avoid letting dirt fall into the tank. There are 3 parts that can be accessed the only one we want to mess w/ is the one w/ the gray clip and two fuel lines coming out.

http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/992/xx3dns5.jpg

Once out this is what the stock pump should look like, its huge compared to the Walbro. In order to complete the install the new pump will need the electric clip w/ wires, 2 butt connectors, a rubber hose w/ clamps, strainer, and rubber boot. (maybe some instructions but they didn’t help me much.)

http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/9966/xtoe6.jpg

Once hooked up it should all look like this, the instructions say to cut the hose to size but I used the whole length to add some downward pressure on the pump to keep the rubber boot in place. (if you see anything wrong with this speak now or forever hold your peace. I was worried about which wire was negative and which was positive but used my black and red logic.)

http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/3540/xtequ1.jpg

Assembly is reverse of install. Hope this helps someone.

Definitely helps! I'm going to have to do this soon, I think you've given me some confidence to do it sooner! I knew it was an easy job, but seeing your pictures, I now know step by step what to do! Thanks very much Jebus :)

Boostedstr8six

How was handling the tank by yourself? I figured you'd want a hand with that but it must not have been too bad with half a tank.

Two things I see: Pump not clamped to the bracket and I would have trimmed the leads way down so you had just enough to make the connections. Clamping the pump isn't too big of a deal because the hose does hold it in place fairly well. I would be slightly concerned with the wires though. They will move with the sloshing fuel and possibly chafe and/or fatigue the connections. It would probably be worth it to redo the wiring, IMO.

Today

started the day off good as soon as i got off school i started cracking away at the electrical side of my oil cooler and fan, had to pick up some stuff but it will prove to be useful later on.

http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/9383/dscf3369oh9.jpg

Installed an inline fuse to keep it safe and added a beefier ground for the cluster of wires under the fusebox.

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/9934/dscf3373dn2.jpg

Had to go out and buy new fittings for the cooler because the other ones just werent going to work, meh as long as it works.

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/5871/dscf3370rl8.jpg

Started routing and finalizing the placement for my stock oil cooler and lines but had to go custom for it all to fit behind the IC,

My bay is finally starting to look like an engine bay, just a few more little things left to come in, final welds on the pipes cus they are currently held together with ducktape, and she's ready for PRO!

Btw Nate, if this car does make it to centralia it will be cutting it REALLY close as my electronics, guages, WB, and harness JUST shipped out and i still havent scored a laptop:aigo:

Im gonna do what i can and push through hopefully get it somewhat finished by then, dyno comes into town the week after Centralia so thats my REAL goal.

Hopefully more updates for tomorrow.

Got my interior pieces in the hatch put back in. Even found my Toyota tool bag.

http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/599/dscf3419qk1.jpg

The back end is pretty much done so i started taking out the glove box and getting but i can get the damn black plastic cover that is on top of the glove box and under the ecu to come out. theres a black plastic screw in the middle towards the back that just spins, i've been tuging on the motherfucker for a while but i cant get it off. :icon_evil .

As soon as thats off i'll start figuring out the wiring and finding a good ground point for the wb, and pro. Hopefully by the time it gets here i'll have all of the wires i need mapped out and ready to solder.

On my way to buy a 3/8 npt female weld on bung.

To get the black cover thing out, you need to remove the two latch screws...

And if you are going to have a bunch of wires running to your glovebox, then that cover will only get in the way...I would just yank it out.

That's what I did to mine after it cracked pretty badly, and I couldn't get it back in...much better without it there.

I had that same problem with the cover for the ECU! That thing was a bitch, I think you just need to pop it out though. I kinda forgot already. If I recall right though, it's just an expander thing that the screw goes into and makes it expand. I'm pretty sure I just stuck a flat head or something in there or just tugged till it came out.

More for today didnt spend a whole lot of time on it but i did make some progress.

I got that damn cover off but i did some damage to it, hopefully it aint to bad and probably wont be noticeable at all.

I used a little cheat sheet to figure out what wires im going to be working w/ as soon as the maftpro gets here, still waiting.:icon_conf but im getting everything on the car ready and prepped to go.

been hibernating lately and finally got some work done, Went to centralia and it was a blast! hopefully video by end of week. Picked up some goodies from Nate :icon_bigg and some from Tom :evil2: , i have to admit taking a turbo off in the rain is definitely FTL. all in all it was worth the hard work and fever.

As for my car, its pretty much on the home stretch, i detoured from my original plan of having it ready to go this last weekend but its all for a good cause. im shooting for the end of this week or early next week to have her runnning :icon_razz

TODAY

Thanks for the video Gerrard!

She started up pretty damn quick i was surprised aside from a small fuel leek and a disconnected coolant line everything turned out tip top! I need to solve a loss of coolant pressure but all in all she's running.

The hardware side of the build is done now its time to do all the software stuff, Runs rough for now just working on fine tuning the mainscale and getting her to idle for more than 3 minutes. SOAB leans out to 23% AFR and dies out on me its pissing me off.

if anyone reading this knows anything about the maftpro help me out im trying to dial in wtf the error 2, and 9 messages are on the innovate lc-1. Anyone running version 4.8 i could use some of the initial settings, mine runs but i want to make sure i have all main general supra settings in the right place before i dig deeper. Also im looking for the right xdf/ALDL etc. files for tunerpro, if ya got these let me know im pretty close to getting this thing drivable, and hopefully dyno worthy.

AND if anyone has a slight idea, how do i know if the ecu HAC mod worked?

oh yea, pics.

im loving how the engine looks. very clean and simple. also like how you have most of the engine bay area black. kind of gives off that sleeper settle look to it. definitely liking that. I was aiming to go that route myself with looks. only use black, grey, and white for the most part. i might have blue silicon hoses but I think they will look nice. keep it up.

figured i'd post SOMETHING, car is moving backwards as it seams. Dyno is in 2 days and i SERIOUSLY doubt the car is going to make it down there, im doubting it will make it out of my driveway at this point.

Having some troublesome issues w/ the wideband signal going from tip top stoich 14.7 to invalid and leaning out and dieing. figured i'd just mess w/ my grounds a bit and check all of that till i was losing power for the guages, well i resoldred all my wires and tapped into separate switched 12v sources.

AFTER all of that still no signal. and after checking over more stuff i found my fuel pressure guage is reading -0- so now im not getting any fuel pressure ontop of the lack of AFR signal???

things went from stoich and tip top on the first try to innoperable.

Getting pretty pissed and tired so im going to sleep. If anyone reading this has a maft-pro or an lc-1 chime in w/ any ideas no matter how random.

at this point my fix list is
-invalid AFR signal to maftpro.
-lack of power to fuel pump or fuel pressure is dissapearing completely
-lack of sleep

Looks like you're making great progress! Besides the glitches that is...

Is it actually the pump thats not pumping? Is it getting power? What mods have you done to the fuel system, 12v mod? resistor bypass? I plan to use the existing wiring only to trigger a new relay then run new larger gauge wiring, have you done anything like this? If not you might want to think about it :)

Boostedstr8six
05-06-2007, 07:56 PM
The fuel pump issue has been resolved. I'll let Luis explain. :biglaugh:

americanjebus
05-06-2007, 10:37 PM
well after extensive testing and searching w/ a multimeter and checking the TSRM

we bypassed the fuel pump relay w/ jumpers in the diagnostic box, tryed the 12 volt mod, checked the voltage being sent through the harness, checked the resistance of the cables in the fuel pump harness. dropped the tank. applied power to the fuel pump harness w/ a battery from my truck. made some custom cabling w/ alligator clips. pulled the tank out and pulled teh fuel pump assembly back out.

then I just went ahead and plugged in the fuel pump to the harness, *click* done.

The only reason it worked in the first place is because the current actually arced far enough to power on the pump.

im retarded.

Boostedstr8six

Eh, it wasn't that bad. Made for a good laugh though. ;)

On to reassembly and laptop tuning...just make sure you don't blow the welds on the intake.

I don't think there would have been any real arcing though, being only 12 volts and all. It probably started as a tenuous contact and then wiggled it's way loose.

Oh eh? haven't looked in here in a bit.

Car was put in the back seat when life caught up to me. As for the turbo, Tom i love it, the power up top is much better than before. I haven't started driving the car again as the daily but i've had a chance to rip on her here and there only at night. Problem is i haven't sourced my speed sensor yet so all i know is im going beyond the speed limit.

had a chance to talk to tom and am gonna try something to see if i can get the power out of it that i should.

so far 13psi is my high ~11.5 afr's and my cruise/ partial throttle is MUCH better. Once i get my cruise AFR and partial throttle where i want it and a decent vf im just gonna set it at 18psi and have fun w/ it :)

I will post up final assembled/detailed pics once i get the alignment done, this much negative camber is kinda scary ~5600 rpms. Wish ROTM would come back soon.

Had to post this stuff up somewhere might as well be in here to sum things up for the summer.. for now anyways.

Went to PAC NW Supra Nationals this weekend and finnally got my 1/4 mile numbers and Dyno ##'s

1/4 Mile the car managed a 13.9 @ 107.8 mph w/ a shit 60' of 2.44, Time for a stall and some M/T slicks. :icon_bigg
http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/4214/dscf4178me3.jpg

The Dyno was less than what everyone expected especially after seeing my trap speed w/ a car tipping the scale at 3900+ lbs.
http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/9574/dscf4088vu2.jpg

326 rwhp and 329 rwtq, Looked at the Maft-Pro data log and i peaked at 15.5 psi on a 40/60 mix of 114 and 92 octane gas just to be safe. Would have gone to 20psi on 114 but the fact thats its still an OEM gasket just bothers me.
http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/4791/dscf4181uk3.jpg
Ignore those AFR's they are inaccurate due to the DDP.

Either way it was enough to take home the Highest HP MKIII award for the meet since all the other 7m's didnt make it and all i had to do was beat a 1J.:biglaugh:

Thanks for the ride Luis, car sounds great and rides smooth as butter, I'm suddenly alot more excited to get my car done and have some fun with my own DDP :D

Are you running ARP Studs or bolts? Did you retorque em? If you do a leak down test and the gasket is holding, I think it'll hold more boost :)

Plus, a blown composite HG, is just a good excuse for a MHG, which is a good excuse for a rebuild... haha it's just inevitable

[edit] just remembered you said new toyota bolts not sure if it's a good idea to re-torque them since they're technically over-torqued to 72, even though it works, it makes them even more one-time use then they already are lol

Opened a new chapter in my life and moved 4 hours away from home to my new place. Im a WSU kid now.

Brought the supe w/ me to keep my sanity while im in school but its a small town so theres not much room to push the car unless i want to drive out of town.

BUT i now live 1.4 hours away from the drag strip in spokane so hopefully this friday i can go check it out and maybe get some better times in. :sarcasm: Just gotta find a helmet.

As for my workplace, i'll have to wait till winter break when i take the car back home to the parents garage to see what i can afford to do to it. Right now i park it outside my window to keep an eye on it.
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/7059/newhomeas4.jpg

Hopefully this winter i can figure out how to get all the power to the ground instead of losing my performance in my driveline and shitty 60' times.

im trying to find the owner of an old school mitsu mirage in the parking lot. primer black, 24'' by 12'' front mount, fully caged w/ 4 point harness in it...
