OK! so today i decided to go around and try to get some quotes on a headgasket job for the supra...i hit up the new primer place "Street Scene Auto" and i drop in there lovely shop and ask the guy at the desk if they did repairs. He kindly says yes and asks what he can help with...i told him a HG job on a 89 Toyota Supra Turbo and ask for a quote....

he went back to talk to the head machanic and as im standing at the front desk...which is sepereated from the garage by about 15ft and a 1" door i clearly hear a NO! the front desk guy comes out and says that they wont do it...and kindly asked me to leave...lovely people eh?? i didnt know so many people were scared of 7m motors...

hah, f**k em no business for them tho. Don't recommend them, thats all. Lets see if they are there in a year or two. Those are the two hardest years. Trying to pay back the loans for opening the shop. If they don't survive then you know their worked sucked any way and you will be glad you didn't go to them.

Maybe they're used to Geo metro 3 cylinders. Where the entire engine can be pulled with 1 arm and placed in a shop vise.

well at least the didnt say yes then f**k your engine up while charging you $1000+ for doing it.

that is pretty sad.

I had almost no experience when i change the HG on my car by myself and still did a good job of it.

Just make sure not to go back to them, not even for a nut. Even if they were not able to do it, there are much more appropriate ways to inform your customer that you will not be able to service them.

He actually asked you to leave afterwards?
They really must hate business.

most places will probably not do just a head gasket job.

the problem is there is too great a risk for failure when you simply pull the head and replace the head gasket.

they really dont have a way of knowing if the bearings were damaged by water contaminated oil, or damaged by detonation (which might have caused the HG to blow)

it has been my experience that the shop will either do a full rebuild, or at the very least will tear the motor completely apart in order to inspect the bearings and if need be, cut the block.

I wouldn't be mad at the shop, would you really want someone tareing apart your motor if they where not comfortable working on it? I wouldn't

Are you sure he didnt' accidentally think you asked for a price on a blow job as opposed to a blown head job? Just wondering................:naughty:

We have stopped doing 7m mhg jobs without a full rebuild. Too much time, too much liability, too much headache, not enough money. The way they treated you was bad, but their reasoning I can totally understand.
$1k for a complete mhg job? That shop is screwing themselves on that job, or screwing you on the quality of work. $1k labor/machine work only would be closer to ok.
