I dropped off the 1jz manifolds and a 7m exhaust manifold today to have flanges made to match out of 304 stainless! So now it is officially underway to become a reality! Flanges are expected to be in by the end of next week, but I usually add a few extra days to a week to whatever I'm told when it comes to manufacturing parts like this.

I went last Thursday to check it out, they are making a jig right now off of my manifold, but they wanted a turbo to check all the measurements, but we don't even have a ct26 right now to give them! LOL We sold them all, upgraded to 57 trim for customers. So I need to get one over there this week, and then I will have a new prototype to mock up on an engine. All the flanges and tubing is ready to go. It's going to be thick wall 304 stainless, with what looked like 1/2" thick flanges.

Got it back today for mock up. Mark's turbo needed to come off for the final welding on the dp and wastegate tube, and for us to take the turbo to get machined because it didn't tighten down properly on the cold side, so it was a good time to test our manifold real quick. It has 1/2" flanges and .120" wall 304 stainless tubing. This manifold is going to be freakin strong!

For one, you will gain the 3-5 hours of your life it takes to change out the twins once they start smoking again. :biglaugh:
As for horsepower, people have made 350+ whp on a stock ct26, and 400+ whp on a 57 trim, should be the same on a 1jz.

PS,
You've just successfully did what toyota did stock, in 1996+ 1JZ-GTE's :)
Actually.... the VVTI 1jz was introduced in 1997, and it had a CT15B which is a smaller turbo then a CT26.
AND, the VVTI head is different so you couldn't just put a VVTI single turbo on a non-VVTI 1jz-gte.
Even the block is different, so you would have to swap in a complete VVTI engine.

what's the spec's of that ct?
gonna dyno it?
bigaaron
03-17-2007, 02:08 AM
It's a 57 trim, unclipped exhaust side. It's going to be dyno'd right after the engine is up and running. Tim is doing a 1jz install right now, and I'm going over on Sun with the turbo setup. He has the purfect setup for it because the 7m he pulled out already had an upgraded downpipe and exhaust system, and he has an afc and a boost controller. That was the thinking behind this setup to begin with, it lets people do a 1jz swap without having to sell their 7m turbo and exhaust upgrades at a loss, or, it's an inexpensive replacement/upgrade for stock twins that are smoking or damaged.

Just to ask - These look to bolt to the stock manifolds - and from what I'm seeing, this seems to push the CT26 further to the shock tower - will a one piece DDP still bolt to this with no problems?
bigaaron
03-17-2007, 12:14 PM
I used the BIC ddp to mock this manifold up on the car. I can't really test it with every downpipe out there though, I guess it's possible there is a downpipe that might not fit, but that's what exhaust shops are for.
the motor will be in this weekend and Aaron is going to bring the setup over and we will get started on it. As soon as the car is running it is going straight to the dyno. Aaron has been a huge help with my swap and I think we will see very good results with this setup.

Thats really a cool idea, but after all the work of making oil lines, a down pipe, intercooler lines, couldnt you just buy an ebay manifold and a cheap 60-1 turbo for about the same price?
I already said that this manifold uses a 7m downpipe. The turbo most people already have. The lines and fittings will be included in my kit. You don't need an external wastegate. Maybe for you it's not a good idea, but I don't think you really grasp what this is all about. I have done several t3 and t4 turbo kit installs and none of them were even close to as easy as this kit was to install on Tim's car. They all required welding and extensive modifications. The manifolds don't even bolt on the head without removing studs and cutting them down. A fully custom downpipe is time consuming and/or expensive. How about the wastegate dump tube? I know you love "Lin" (the guy who you say singlehandedly makes every one of the many thousands of Chinese manifolds that get imported to the US). If you want to go that way then go for it, I'm fine with that.
Scenario #1: You have a 7m in your car with a bhg. The bhg happened right after you put an upgraded ct26 on your 7m along with an upgraded exhaust system with a BIC downpipe (or similar). So you are tired of the 7m and want to go 1jz. Most people in that case would have to sell the ct26 and downpipe at a loss in order to get money to build another turbo kit for their new 1jz. Now they would not have to. Most people on this forum either have a ct26 or can get one for $150 or less. You don't have to upgrade it to run it on the 1jz.
Scenario #2: 1jz turbos have problems with smoking or just blowing up and going down the exhaust pipe. So yours go out and you spend 3+ hours getting them off the engine. This ct26 turbo kit goes back on the engine in about an hour! (depends on how fast you work). CT26 turbos are proven turbos and many people do rebuilds on them. Much better then $1400 to rebuild twins, with no guarantee of their longevity afterwords.
The kit that Aaron made for my car fits perfectly and the install went very smooth. The turbo sits perfecly in the engine bay and even the downpipe meets the exhaust perfectly so no need for exhaust modfications. Frees up a lot of room in the engine bay and looks bad ass!!

It's going to be around $350 for the manifold and the lines and adaptors.
They will be ready sometime next week. I just went in today with a turbo to have a slight change made to smooth the bend on the front pipe and give a little more clearance for the compressor outlet and vacuum fitting. I'm having 14 more made up, they would be ready to ship beginning of the week of April 9th.
An thoughts of having a different plate available for other turbos like the GT-30 or GT-35?
I am confident that the quality you guys are producing is much higher than some of the other options out there.

The final version was decided on today! I had a slight change made to the front tube to allow for some extra clearance for the turbo outlet so the hose is not so close to the manifold, and also to give more clearance for the wg vacuum fitting. There are two different positions on the compressor housing for the vacuum fitting. Now both will fit great. Tim may have his 1jz running and going to the dyno this weekend, I can't wait!!!

I would have to see how it fits in the engine bay, because my manifold makes the turbo sit about 3/4" to 1" further out to the passenger side. Do you have any pics of it installed on a Supra? Otherwise it should fit. I ordered the adaptor flanges and they should be to me by next week. I will have at least a few manifolds this week. Tim should be finished with his swap already but I didn't hear from him over the weekend. As soon as he has the engine up and running he's going to go dyno it.

Just in time too, Jon called me and he's shipped my flanges, should be to me by tomorrow! :icon_surp
I'm picking up 5 hose sets tomorrow, so we are good to go!
Tim's going to try to post some videos and get it on the dyno asap.

hrmmmm very tempting!
Finally got the car running after putting in my clutch disk backwards:aigo: I took the car for a drive and on only 7 psi the car pulls very hard!! The ct26 57trim spools nicely and the boost comes on hard. The Driftmotion manifold setup is the shit and works bitchin!! The turbo spools quick and the car is surprisingly fast on low boost. I'm going to turn the boost up to 12psi tomarrow and see how it goes!! Anyways here are some pics of the final product and I will have some vids in a couple of days including some dyno #'s.

Here is a vid of me when I first got it finished, just giving it a rev!! You can't see the cluster but all of the gauges work, compliments of driftmotion!! I will have some driving vids of the car tomarrow!!!

After finally getting all the parts together, we are ready to ship. The kits are going to be $375 plus shipping.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v379/BigAaron/driftmotion/1jzct26adaptormanifoldkit.jpg
I was shooting for $350, but consider that the ct26 oil adaptor flange and the 1jz oil return -10 adaptor together are about $80, plus the two hoses are about $80, adaptor and block off for the oil outlets on the block, then add all the metric bolts, and 3/8 push lock hose for coolant at $3 a foot, and there's a good $200+ worth of stuff not even including the manifold.

Nice work as usual Aaron. I will definitely go with this Kit when I start working on my JZ. The 7m build gets finished first though

nice, any idea of the hp differences over the stock twins?
Turned the boost up to 11psi and the car pulls really hard. I talked to a friend of mine and we are going to dyno it for sure this week. Can't wait to see what it will do. I will get some videos today or tomarrow!! Just need to find someone to hold the camera while I drive!!:aigo:

Tim took it to a Dynapack dyno, and untuned it made 272whp at 11psi. Dynapack dynos usually register a little lower then a dynojet, and I'm happy with the result. Most of the 1jz engines making more hp then that usually have boost creep up to 12psi, sometimes closer to 13psi. The real increases will be realized at higher boost, and top end horsepower. He's got some videos he should be posting soon. With the ct26 you can run 18psi daily and not worry about twins blowing up. We'll have some more numbers soon, we're putting one on Mike's new 1jz build in the next few days!

How much of a PITA is the install for this kit? I am very seriously looking into getting it since this will be the first step towards my future goals (with a much bigger single). Also, besides the kit and a ct26, what else would someone like me who is running a stock 1J with a 3" exhaust system have to get?

It takes 3 times as long to get the twins off as it does to install this kit. You will need a 7m downpipe and ct26, and an intake and lower ic pipe.

272 on 11 psi isn't tooooo bad i was expecting more tho.
on 13 psi i was hanging side by side with my buddies car with 308 whp 1JZ
i wanna see some real boost pulls not 11 psi!!!

I have not been able to take a look at Tim's car since I dropped off the manifold. I wasn't expecting more power then the twins make at less boost then the twins run. He got an afpr kit from me since then, so we are going to increase the fuel pressure and then lean it out with an afc. That will let him run more boost before it hits fuel cut. He said it was really rich when they did the dyno pulls. It's got a lot left in it, I'm not discouraged at all.

I'll post it when I have it.
Tim does not work for Driftmotion, and is not obligated to post if he doesn't have the time.
Mike is running one on his new 1jz with a standalone, it will be a good way to test the capability of this setup.
Sorry guys, I haven't been able to post much. I am working 6 days a week now and having some family issues at home. I promise to get some more videos this weekend as the ones me and my friend took came out very fuzzy because of the contrast on his camera. I got the Driftmotion fuel pressure kit and AFC so I am going back to the dyno with a little tuning to see what I can get out of. Overall the setup is kicking ass and running strong!!

Don't be sorry, I have these in stock! Both cars they are on locally are going through other modifications and improvements so neither has been able to really push the boost quite yet. I got a ride in Tim's car at 14 psi the other day after we built a 4.30 lsd diff for his car, made from the gears of a 4.30 open diff and the carrier of a 3.90 lsd! It was impressive....great power, quick spool, and even nice top end all the way to redline. I still promise that you will love this kit the first time you drive it! I still believe that it's the best option for someone looking for a mild turbo upgrade for up to about 400whp, with super easy install, not too expensive, and more reliable then the stock twins. ESPECIALLY if you already have a ct26 and a 7m downpipe, then it's a no-brainer.
Even if I never sell them all, I am happy with the project. It's very rewarding to think up something new, get it fabricated and installed, and then have it live up to all your expectations.

If one of the guys running this kit, when they have a chance get an pic of the lower IC pipe setup they are running, I'd really appreciate it. I have some piping left over from my IC and hardpipe install and wanting to see how they ran it. Mainly to see if I need to buy more piping.

It runs almost exactly like it does on a 7m. The turbo is only about 3/4" further out then it is on a 7m.

For whomever might still be wondering in the future. I just used my cooleze lower from my 7m setup. From looking at it, I suppose if I would have used the stock 1JZ IC it might have been a direct fit but I also bought the IC/IC pipe kit from Aaron and just used an elbow from the kit he sent along with my cooleze pipe coming from the turbo. There is a picture of it here.

I also ordered and am using piping from Aaron, but only have a couple straights and one 45* bent pipe left, so I'm probably going to have to buy a 90* bend.
Thanks for the info, and that's a really clean swap!!
