a while ago there was talk of someone manufacturing and selling PnP harnesses and Megasquirt boxes for a MKIII 1j. i was wondering if anyone heard anything else about this, and if they ended up making the PnP harness and the box with a base tune.

It was drift to the motion, those smooth pimps were going to do it with the stinger set up. I think!

That's correct ranger. Driftmotion is closing in on finishing their stinger setup. Last I checked, Aaron calibrated the temp sensors.

Not DM, they selling PnP harnesses for their stand alone. He asked about the MS harness that someone was offering. RacerX I think (?)

Sure...
I might be able to do one for a 7M.
But we both know how much I LOVE 7M's.....

racer, i though you were running the MS on your bastardjz? would it be hard for you to replicate the harness a few times and sell a few?

I could make a 1jz harness for the megasquirt if someone wants to send me their megasquirt harness. Then I would have it copied and it would look top notch. The Stinger really is a better standalone then the MS but I digress. :dunno: I already have the wiring diagram made up for the 1j to the Stinger, and the connections are basically the same.

aaron, have you released any prices on your stinger setup?

I may be interested as well Aaron. I dont know what all I need yet, but when I get my 1jz installed, I will want it to run at its full potential and if this standalone will help, then that is what I will get..............lol

The harness is going to be somewhere around $175 for pnp 1j or 7m. I wouldn't mind making a MS harness anyways, gives people more options.

would eather of them be able to use a distributer, or would i need to use a CPS

For a 7mge? They both could work with a distributor, but I am not going to be making harnesses for those.
It's looking like the 89-92 7mgte and 1jz-gte harnesses would be the most popular, followed by the 86-88 7m-gte.

i was thinking along the lines of a 2jzge-t, using the 1jzgte harness. im guessing that it would need a cps and the 1j/2j electronics.

would you be able to make a harness to put a 2jz-ge into a ma70

The thing with the megasquirt, is it depends on what you want to run, engine component specific. Meaning you have to buy the right megasquirt, with the right options (pre-built, or build it yourself) to work with the CPS, 36-1 trigger wheel, whatever.
This is why it's more of a challenge.
Certain megasquirt units do have knock control, and 2-step/traction control, as well as other features, but the unit, and the harness from the unit to the engine need to be in one place, at one time.

The 2JZ-GE block does not have the 12 point wheel on the crank, or the cam sensors. CPS, stock distro, or custom wheel on the crank are the ONLY options, meaning the 1JZ-GTE harness is a no go.
The 2JZ-GE harness is good enough, and the best option, and a CHEAPER option.
The 12 point sensor on the crank in a 1JZ, I thought about having a custom 36-1 wheel made to replace the 12 point wheel, and use the stock VR sensor. Now that would be nice. The Ford EDIS-6 setup is so easy to use in a waste spark setup.

Good point, so really, the megasquirt would not be something you could make 100% plug and play then? To be honest, when people talk about standalones, and they have no idea how to do the wiring at all, it makes me wonder if a standalone is really the right thing for them in the first place.
There has been a lot of talk about it recently, but there is a reason very few people are running them. It's not like an afc or a lexus air flow meter.
What really scares me is selling someone $500-$1000 worth of parts that they may not be able to get functioning correctly, or worse, do damage to their engine. That's why I am not rushing my project, when it is done and fully tested on several cars then it will be made available.

Well, you could make it plug and play, and it would be no more difficult than installing a stinger, or any other standalone.
As long as you had the MS built to the ignition pickup/system you plan on using, it's really not a problem.

I guess I'll chime in here since I run it. Lemme start off by saying this is my 2nd car with MS. My first was this abomination: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2180426
And my current car:
http://www.jzxproject.com/bbs/garage...vehicle&CID=14
SETUP:
With that out of the way, in regard to the 1jz I think setting up the ignition is the hardest part. I had a friend of mine who had already done it help me out with that part. The problem is the 24 tooth wheel on the crank has no missing teeth so you HAVE to use the 2nd trigger. Which requires another conditioning circuit. After that you have to make 6 outputs for the coilpacks. Once that's set up it's smooth sailing.
TUNING:
The hardest part of tuning it would have to a) setting up the parameters/base map and b) the cold start. There are a few formulas to figure out your req_fuel numbers and basic equations to get it started and idling. After that its a lot of tedious fine tuning. Nowadays mine starts perfectly as long as it's over 60f outside. Any colder and I have to give it gas and keep it on for the first minute or so. But this isn't the MS's fault it's my own laziness and lack of motivation to tune the cold start. I'm prefectly content to warm it up a little with my foot for the next few months :)
My only real complaint is the lack of resolution (12x12) but that fix is coming soon. And honestly the carruns great for my purposes. I really wanna try the stinger out but that's a ways down the road. I'm not saying the MS is bad or anything. I just like playing with EFI :)
I think I'll be pulling my motor in a few weeks here for some major upgrades. Maybe I'll unwrap the harness and take pics or whatever. I also have an unmodified MS at the shop so I can figure out what the hell my friend put in there for ignition!
Bigaaron makes an excellent point. This is not for the EFI noob. Even if you have a drop in unit you have to kind of know what you're doing. I don;t think I would have one if I didn;t have my own dyno haha.
I would never give a customer of mine an MS unless he knew what he's getting into. Your average "have someone else tune it/bolt on mods/I care about smooth idle" type of person wouldn't be too happy.
In short, It's a great system for those of us who drive/tune/track our own shit. Not so much for the fickle, daily driving public. I'm not saying you can't make it run perfect. You can but it's a lot of tuning.
