I have a really loud rattling noise. My friend had the same exact noise on his prelude quite a while back. He's fairly confident it's soemthing to do with the crank shaft. The noise sounds like it's comming from crankshaft pulley. Now does this have a bearing that would go bad?(I didnt see one in the haynes repair manual) Or is this a main bearing?
I also thought maybe a crankshaft timing sprocket(but i'm still a bit of a newb at repairing cars).
Any help would be GREATLY Apreciatted!

Sounds like it could be rod knock...that's when one of the rod bearings gets worn out and loose, and can't firmly hold the rod in place, so it rattles around...usually caused by oil starvation or contamination (coolant, or other foreign material in the oil).
Do a search...rod knock happens pretty often, and it has been BEATEN TO DEATH in this forum.

Check that your crank pulley bolt isn't loose. Don't drive the car until you figure out what's wrong.
