rear shock bottom mount.

For the back strut, there is a cylinder like piece that can move in and out to accomodate different thickness of a variety of struts bottom mount. You can use a pry bar or the bolt and nut that you just took off and a big socket to push this cylinder flush with the inside wall. Once it's flushed, the bottom mount of the strut can actually have a couple of millimeters of clearance for you to mount. No need to grind it down unless yours is frozen and can not be pushed back. Checkout the pic. Sorry, cwapface for using your pic without your permission. Hope that helps.

can anyone elaborate on how to get that cylinder piece to move? i tryed hitting it out with a hammer and screw driver... i guess it's seized. i can't get my angle grinder or dremel in there to cut it off either. it's in the way of the shock sliding into place. i don't really want to cut the bushing down on the shock either.

some ideas would be great.

Spray it with some PB and try it again in a few hours. I used a hammer and screwdriver on mine.

Just use a brass punch and give it a few good hits I had to do the same for mine make sure you use a brass punch so you do not damage the bushing.

I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. But I used a breaker bar (to pull) and a hammer (to hit) to get everything aligned properly. Also, sometimes it helps to have someone step on the rotor and maybe bounce on it to get the bolt to align properly. Just make sure not to over do it, you don't want to break anything.

went and bought some pb blaster, soaked it, then used a hammer and 6" ratchet extension to hammer it out. finally got it...

pb blaster > wd40

edit: as for your issue. If your're talking about getting the shock out of the steering knuckle. I suggest you wedge a pry bar or a flat head screw driver and pry it out. That worked for me.

Yeah, I suggest you take the upper ctrl arm off. It makes the job easier. The passenger's side is a tad harder because your windshield washer resivor will barely clear the arm bolt when you slide it out. GL!

if you can get your hands on an airgun from a shop or something it would make your life way easier. it will take that bolt right off.

the little cylinder piece that slides in and out of the bottom shock mount that allows for different size shock bushings. it was seized and wouldn't allow me to slide my new shock in.

i actually snapped a wrench trying to break that fucking bottom shock bolt loose too, had to go buy another breaker bar. having the right tools makes shit so much easier...

and my rear shocks were so blown that i could compress them all the way and they took 3 minutes to rebound LOL!

To move the spacer back out, just use a piece of 1/2" all-thread, two nuts, and two washers as a spreader. You can get tons of force with little wrench effort that way.

Don't cut it, and don't forget to put it back in or you'll break your spindle.

try changing into a pair of man-pants instead of the tutu. the struts should go right in.

i already got it. it was a bitch, definately didn't slide right in.

i was fighting with the other side today trying to get the shock out. mind you i already completed the other side and the new coilover was in. i couldn't figure out why the control arm would go any lower, then it hit me, the sway bar was connected... dee dee dee
