My 91 n/a has been sitting. I have been lubing it. Afterward covering it with a towel. I went back a few days later to check on it again and it is so damn rusty that the towel was sticking to it.
I took a brass wired brush to it to clean left over head gasket residue. It kept fine till the weather started going from hot to cold.
I'm not wanting to pull the block but if I do should I replace pistons and rods or anything else???? How much is this going to cost me?:icon_mad:
In the future, soak the towel in oil.
Now onto the issue at hand, how much rust is there?

the rust is only in the top of the block, where the mhg goes. Everything else is covered in oil. I don't want to wire brush it so I guess I'm going to have the emerycloth the hell out of it. Any other opinions are welcom. Thanks Guys....., In advance.
Mike
I have to act fast and need serious direction.

I coated my block surface with WD-40 and never had a problem...no rust.

hey, im not a bro.
Then this doesnt apply to you. :biglaugh:
Was the block deck already machined for a MHG?
If so, use WD-40 to clean it off...it's likely all surface rust. Don't use emery cloth (too abrasive)...get a fine scotch bright pad and use it with the WD-40. Wipe with cotton cloth and inspect for pitting. Make sure crap does not get in the cylinders.
