View Full Version : New, 3.5" BIC Thunder cat back exhaust, with sound clips!!!

Well finally after a few months of R&D and testing the 3.5" BIC Thunder cat back system is now available. This is the perfect exhaust for those of you who are running 400hp or more, or where 3" just isn't good enough. The exhaust note is a deep rumble, and sound very nice on a 1jz, it is not a quiet exhaust, but I offer an optinal resonator to tone down the volume a bit.
The exhaust is an 3.5" od aluminized mild steel bolt on cat back, with a high temp coating to prevent corrosion. A 3.5" inlet/outlet Magnaflow stainless steel round canister muffler is used with an optional resonator. The muffler sits on a slight angle similar to the HKS High power, or Blitz N1. It utilizes the factory exhaust hangers for stock like fitment. The exhaust has a 3" flange to mate up to your existing testpipe or cat, which flares out to 3.5" to make it a bolt on affair. I can also leave off the flange which will make it full 3.5" and will need to be custom adapted to your current downpipe/ cat/ testpipe. I can add an optional resonator for $80. The tip will be slightly different than the pic.
Introductary pricing is $600
Price with resonator is $680
Shipping is extra.

How is this compared to your old exhuast when your car was 7M? if it's the same and sounds the same, this could possibly be the best sounding exhuast for a MKIII.

Yes I can leave off the the 3" part at the front of the exhaust to make it a full 3.5" system, I just did it this way so its a fully bolt on unit, and as of now there is no 3.5" downpipe/ cat to bolt it to.

The BIC exhaust is a completly bolt on finnished exhaust system with a real muffler, I imagine that the other exhaust that is just running two resonators will be very loud, and some people care about how the exhaust looks. You guys can vouch for me about my quality of work, there is hundreds of my BIC downpipes out there. I have been working on this exhaust for a while if you see my "what parts do you guys want" thread, it just took a while for me to find time to get it finnished and do my testing.

looks great randy, possibly put a burns stainless muffler on there instead? a la WOTM, or a aerochamber like the goliath? i'd think that exhaust with a burnsstainless would look even hotter

Im all about the Burns... but id like to hear it before i decide on a different muffler...
becauseican
09-19-2006, 12:35 PM
I can use the Burns muffler too, but it offers very little if any sound muffling value and would be mostly there for looks. The price will also be about $200 more with that muffler. I will figure out the pricing without a muffler, so you guys can use what ever you want. But Honestly I dont know why everyone is against Magnaflow mufflers, the are full stainless steel inside and out, lifetime warrantee, and will sound pretty much the same as any Japaneese or other straight through muffler of similar size. You cant beat a Magnaflow for the quality vs price and availability.

I don't want to speak for Randy, but I think the reason behind making a 3.5" system is because there are already plenty of 3" systems out there. They might have the same exit angle as this system but they do their job.

Yes, But it would be cool to see a total 3" turbo back exhaust from one supplier, And not a corporate one. I am a big fan of one owner shops and parts operations, Especially when the owner/operator is as involved in the fan base as he is. But I will be getting this 3.5 exhaust as soon as cash allows haha.

I wasn't saying that it was better then the Nur Spec, or anything of the sort. It's a beautiful exhaust, don't get me wrong, but let's add up the cost to do all of this:
Magnaflow muffler - $150 (at the most)
Piping - $75 (at the most)
Resonator - $50 (at the most)
These are all assuming that this is what it costs him to make this, totals to $275. He is charging $600, and that is just the going rate, WITHOUT a resonator. If he was really here to helpout the community, and wanted to sell more, it would make sense to sell it at about the $400 mark, I think that would be a good price (I do realize it would be more due to shipping though). I just think the $600+ price is ridiculous, that's all.

i think the exhaust has a very heavy price for what it is also. but this is like randy stated a hand made part and can be done any way you want, also it is very very nice but is it worth the money? maybe to the rite people i have the hprse powerfreaks 4 inch, and it was $800 so for 3 inch u pay about $450 and for the 3.5 inch you pay $600, and then u have the massive 4 inch you pay $800. its all about how big of an exhaust you want/need and how much money you have.

Yes but Randy is here to make a living, this is his job and he has dedicated his work to us as Supra owners. He not only has to pay for that stuff but also for his shop and for all his equipment and time needed to make these items. He isn't a major corporation so you may have to expect to pay for that extra little personnal touch. He also develops new products and spends time experimenting with what we the people want. If that is not for the good of the community then I don't know what is. In my opinion it is completely worth every penny and more for a fully customizable fit, made to order just how you want it. Thanks Randy for all your hard work and dedication to Supras.

I really dont think I should have to justify myself here but I will.
GotToyota?- You have seemed to forget a few things such as the flanges, gaskets, band strap clamps, hangers, hardware and the custom boxes to ship the things which seem like little things but they really add up.......and the most important thing is labor and time to build the parts. I have spent allot of time working and developing this system to fit perfect and sound great. I take into account the cost of materials and labor, then compare with the closest competition to come up with my prices.
It does take quite a bit of time to cut fit and weld all the parts togeather, and I dont know about you but I dont / cant work for free. I rent a big shop and have lots of equipment to payfor. This is my own business that I started, and I simply cannot compete with the mass produced china made parts, so I specialize in custom hand made products built it the customers specs.
I saw a "hole" in the mk3 exhaust market. There is very few if any similar exhaust available. There is a ton of 3" exhaust available, and almost no 3"+ systems. The closest are the HKS Highpower ($730 and special order from Japan), HKS Drager ( $602 if you can find one) both in mild steel. The HPF Goliath which are $800 for the 3.5" or 4" systems in stainless steel. So take a look and se the price is quite competitive. I have had some experiance with "name brand" exhausts, abnd I wasnt impressed at all, they all seem to crack and fall apart within a few years, my brothers new Apexi exhaust was cracking and the hangers broke off in less than a year. I hand make my parts with quality materials.
Take a trip to your local High performance exhaust shop and get a price on a 3.5" system with a muffler.........

Looks like a well built system!
From an advertising standpoint, soundclips would definatly pull much more interest in this product. As soon as some people hear it, they will shell out the nash instantly for a great hand made to order product.
The over saturation of Chinesse made parts on the market is killing the auto market and sooner or later (in a few years) everyone will realize how poorly built the parts are and will refuse to buy them ever again. But until this time period, you will struggle like many others and hope to stay afloat.
Im in the same shoes when it comes to HID components :)

As for shipping to Lithuania........I am not sure, I will be shipping one to Portugal in the next few weeks, then I will have a better idea on price, but as a rough guess it will be about $250 for shipping to Europe, the box neede is just big, which makes it "oversize" and they charge extra for that.

Well, first glancing at the muffler, I wasn't crazy about it..but as I look at it, I am starting to like it more and more. :)
If I am going to spend this kind of money on an exhaust, as much as I need/want it for performance, I want to get a nice tone to it.
I currently have all 3" w/ an Arospeed exhaust (similar to HKS Dragger) and it isn't worth a lick. It's sooo quiet, and I hate it. I went from running Open cut out (3" Y-piece in place of Cat), to trying Open DP, and I decided to experiment (lol) and went open TURBO elbow...:runaway:
Crazy? Yes. Why am I doing it? I hate quietness...i want something loud (but clean), throaty & deep sounding. If you can get a sound clip (If there already is one, someone direct me to the page/link), otherwise, I might be very interested in this. :)

You are up in B.C. right? If so would you mind if I came up and took a look/listen .Most likely I will come up cash in hand . I really need a full system , and is their a shop close to you that can install it so I can sneak it past customs ? I have till end of the year before my temp resident permit expires . Then no more Canada for me
My shop is located in Vancouver B.C Canada, about 2 hours north of Seattle. You can come up and take a look, I dont know about a listen because I dont have one on any cars here, and my car is all apart and wont be running for a while. I have afully equipped shop and I can do the install for you too.
I will have a sound clip for you guys soon.
As for the 1jz difference- JDM 1jz cars have catbacks that are 1" longer than the 7m equipped cars, I can make them in both lengths, so most guys would want the 7m length exhaust unless you have a 1jz and downpipe on your car.

OK I found the tip I will be using for the production exhaust, it will be a 4" polished SS tip with a straight cut end, similar to the HKS High power but not as big. I hope to have pics soon and a sound clip up within the next week or two.

Randy
I agreed with everything said here. I got lucky and got the Goliath 4'' for 600 shipped from HPF. If i didn't get that i would have gotten this.

Hey Just a question. This is a catback right...But what cat/flange does it fit on? Or do you just take that into account when someone orders one? Or will a 3.5" pipe fit on the stock cat? I already have a 3" DP uninstalled, But I just planning on not running with a cat, So if i get this, Could you make it for me to just bolt up to the dp flange? Of course i could measure it and take pics etc.
becauseican
12-19-2006, 02:27 PM
The cat back uses a 3.5-3" reducer at the front and a flange with the stock flange bolt pattern, so it can bolt to the stock cat or a testpipe. For the guys wanting to run a full 3.5" system I can leave the front flange off and you can attatch it any way you want, slip fit, V-band whatever....
Garagefujimoto: yes my twin gt28r turbo kit is still for sale.

SWEET!
it's funny how mk3 owner's can bitch about a $600 exhaust. 3.5" and a nice one, and you get USEABLE HORSEPOWER out of it. try owning a 350z, paying $1500 for a decent exhaust, and getting MAYBE 6hp out of it. mk3 owners have it so easy. $600 is more than reasonable for something like this.

Wow $1500 for the 350Z that is one hell of a rip-off. Unless it's Full Titanium :)
or put a turbo on that 350Z then the exhaust would yield allot more results,, :)
I am not sure why people are complaining either. Even if you buy a Greddy, Apex-i, HKS or Borla Exhaust they would all cost you the same for less quality and much more for the same quality.

Just want and idea for everyday driving. I dont like alot of noise but I like deep tones. Sounds like this could be it. I would also like to know whether it had a cat or no, and the downpipe and did it have a resonator.

The car is a RHD JZA70 with a 1JZ, 3" BIC downpipe, BIC Testpipe, and the 3.5" catback with the optional resonator. I do have some more video's of the car doing exactly what you asked, driving by slowly and boosting. It has a nice deep tone and gets louder the more you are on the gas. It wil be allot quieter if you run it ith a catalyic converter.
I also have a 7M video but I need to format it so I can uplosd it onto my website. It is quite a bit deeper and louder sounding on the 7M, you can really hear the turbo spooling. I hope to get the rest of the vids up in the next few days.

I have gotten continuous comments on it where ever I go that it sounds perfect on my car, to fart sounds, no nasty ringing, just a sweet performance sound. The only complaint I have of the system is that if you are going to have this on your DD I would suggest looking into some sound proofing mat in the back of your car, everyone loves a loud exhaust, until you decide to do a 4 hour road trip.
