R-154 Vs W-58

How much horsepower can each hold? I know the 154 is stronger but, the problem is I have a SC300 And I will be dropping a 1JZ into it but the thing is that the supra 154 isnt long enough. The JDM Soarer R-154 has a longer tail shaft and the shifter is farther back, but it is so hard to find one of those. SO i was thinking about using a W-58 from a MKIV. What kind of rear end should I use with that combo?

I would think the MkIV W-58 is at least a little stronger than the MkIII W-58 but I don't know for sure.

Well the mk3 w58 doesn't like 300 horses.

And the 1JZ easily reaches 300 horses...so the MkIII W-58 doesn't like the 1JZ...:D

It's NOT the Hp so much that tears the 58's up it's the Tq and where the motor makes it!

If it's at a point where the car gets good traction wave bye bye to the trans... :(

the W58 doesn't like 300horses IN A HEAVY MKIII 8-).

I've had 350rwhp in a MKII without issues for over a year.

it sounds like you have the wrong driveshaft maybe try a diffrent driveshaft setup to fix that problem dont compromise your trannys your going backward not forward.

do not go w-58 with a 1JZ the 1j is factory 280hp and the 7mgte doesnt even use the w-58 and it is 230hp. the w-58 threshold is no more then 300hp period and the 230hp 2jzge n/a has been known to break the manuels and there is verry little diffrence between the mkiv w-58 & the mkiii mainly it was the synchros or something verry little and there was a slight diffrence in the number of parts or ribs on something i cant remember.

you can use R-154 with 1JZ
you can use V-160 with 1JZ with moded final gear
you can use V-161 with 1JZ with moded final gear
you can use T-56 or ZF6 or there is some american 6 speeds high horse you can use with it using some custom parts because i have heard of kits to fit american transmissions with the 1000+ hp 2jzs esentialy the same as a 1JZ that may even open up some sequentials you can use that are like almost 10,000 for the mkiv and maybe a richmond or some other tranny after market here you go i found what you need below

omg i just did a search on summit for some of there 6 speeds go here they sell a direct kit to bolt on any american tranny to a w58 which is for only $419

oops this bellhousing is to put an LS1 to your w-56 but why well find the one that mates your 1-2jz to a richmond and your set i know they are out there.

Hey man thanks for your help. But I need your help again. I need to mount the 154 tranny to a 1JZ in a soarer. But the shifter does not go back far enough. I heard boost logic fabricates a kit that would extend the shifter farther back but they told me it is still in the R&d stages. If any one can help me find a kit similar to this I would greatly appreciate it. Or if someone could help me find a genuine toyota soarer/chaser/aristo transmission. Guys I need this seriously bad. I will be making 500+rwhp and I need some thing to put it through, other than an automatic
