Removing the EGR is possible.

If you worried about emmisions leave it on, With it you'll also gain a little better gas mileage at cruising.

I believe removing it will reduce the temperatures at the rear of the head and it also makes the engine bay look better with it gone.

Alot of places sell blockoff plates for around $30. Id get a JDM set personally. since it removes the EGR cooler as well.

The round thing is called the modulator. It controls the flow.
