Ok, so I slapped a new hg on the engine and torqued to 74ft/lbs. I got it to idle somewhat ok, now, when i drive for a bit, it gets up to temp fine and doesn't run hot, but when I stop and turn off the car, coolant gets pushed out of the little hose on the overflow cap. Why is this? I was told possibly water pump is bad? I was also told the crank might be loose? Can those be correct? I'd just like to know what you guys think could be causing this. Air in the system?

Really? You think so? I drained the coolant when I did the hg, and re-filled and tried burping it, but I was unsure as to how long it takes to burp. I let it bubble for a couple mins, but I don't think it was done. How long would you say it takes to let all the bubbles out of the system IJ? I got worried after a couple mins when the bubbles didn't stop. I feared exhaust gas bubbles :icon_razz so I put the cap on :)

LOL either jack it up or park it on a hill

Idle it with the cap off and the heater on full

Keep topping it up until no more bubbles come out then bring the revs up a little top it off and cap it.

It can take a bit of time to get all the air out, I check the level each day for a week after cooling system work.

If everything is right it "should" exhale into the recovery tank when hot then Inhale as it cools.

Ok, but should the overflow tank be full also? If that is full and the rad is full wouldn't it push some out like I've been having?

Be sure and use a NEW radiator cap, and about a 50/50 mix of antifreeze. When burbing, lower the coolant level about 2" before starting (just above the tubes). This will help not to overflow at the cap.

You want to get ALL the air out, because it can cause 'hot spots' and this is very bad for the motor.

Eric: There should be a "Hot" and "Cold" mark on the tank.
