Suspension and possibly an auto trans. IIRC 400 and a 5 speed isn't enough to go 11's.

What kind of weight reduction? The Supra is a fat one, if you remove AC, ABS, and PS; it will be a fat one that doesn't have AC, ABS or PS.

I say tires amd suspension.

If you have a 5 speed, I'd go with a lightweight flywheel, aluminum/cf driveshaft, lightweight wheels. For auto still get the ds and wheels.

You're going to have to do alot of weight reduction if you go that route. I'd combine abit of weight reduction with more power upgrades.

People usually say that 100 lbs lost is a tenth of a second faster. Look at some math:

stock weight w/avg male driver is ~3800 lbs
stock power at the crank = 232 hp (89+)

Stock Power-to-weight ratio is: 232/3800 = .061 hp/lb
100lbs weight reduction P2W ratio is: 232/3700 = .0627 hp/lb

solving to find out how much power is equivalent to 100lbs reduced:

.0627 = x hp / 3800 lbs => x hp = .0627 * 3800
x = 238.26 hp or about 6.26 hp

So you have to decide what would be more efficient (cost, practicality, etc) 100 lbs reduction or 6.26 hp.

BTW, the scale slides everytime you upgrade your car cause you will have a new baseline. This will help you determine what it will cost you to get to where you want to be.

Also the a340e tranny is only good for 400 horses, after that it will break so you will probably have to go with a built a340e or a different tranny setup, which will be more expensive.

Good luck with the 11s! Hope you make it.

If you have a 5 speed, I'd go with a lightweight flywheel
That will make it harder to get the car moving. I would stay with the stock FW for drag racing.

JT62 and some slicks baby 8-). Should be in the 11s with tha, assuming your
tranny can take it and you have the rest of the supporting mods.

slicks, A bottle of n20, then your set for 11secs.

one time

in all reality, get suspension, engine mods, FUEL MODS, wheels, and some weight reduction. If your crazy enough swiss cheese the chassis and frame work.

AND you also need to be a good driver, crappy drivers won't get in the 11's regardless if they have 600+hp.

I ran a 12.6 with a 57 trim and 251.5 whp(on street tires with a 1.75 60')...... so an 11 can't be that hardwith 400 whp....

gixxer is FTW. Those are the type of numbers that our cars should be doing. I gotta say, that is pretty impressive for 251rwhp. Kind of shocked, actually.

Annnnyways,

99% of the time, the faultyness in our cars is the DRIVER. ;)

gix: you're only making 251rwhp? on a 57 trim? something sounds wrong. what was the boost level? i'm pushing 289rwhp on a stock dying turbo... creeping from 10psi to 15psi.

and i really mean my turbo is dying. it has chipped impeller blades, shaft play, and the death whine.

Maybe you broke the dyno.

well....I'm still at 251 hp due to management.. I'm on a 62-1 turbonetics now.

Those numbers are on a dyno dynamics, no correction factor at all. 251 hp and 269 tq on this dyno. For comparison purposes, a honda civic with an h22 turbo running 12 psi on race gas with stock CR put down 199 whp. A bolt on ls1 car put down 215 on the same dyno.

So, in reality probably around 320 whp....

I was gonna say the guy that had my car before me pulled 303whp on the stock turbo so I was kinda like wtf

what mph was the 12.6 run and how much does your car weigh?

Boostin88T

Yeah, dyno dynamics is usually rated low. I made 410rwhp on one.

if you look at any of the "standard" HP/ET/weight calculators, 400 rwhp and a 3500 lb car come in the low 12s....those calculators assume perfect traction- i.e. a serious 60' that you probably won't cut in a MKIII. if you want 11s, your best bet is a sloppy stock suspension, slicks, 450 rwhp or so, supporting mods and a good driver.

the crux of cutting a good 60' in a MKIII is the damage that you'll do. getting a fat, 20 yr old car to cut a good 60' means traction....and traction means breaking stuff. your rear subframe will take a beating. if you have a manual transmission, your clutch will take a beating as will the trans itself. running slicks on a MKIII means you have a very good chance of breaking all sorts of stuff....a choice you have to make.

personally, i've run a best of 12.11 @ 116 on BFG DRs w/a 1.8 60' on hard road race suspension. i chose to run DRs because they're far stickier than street tires, but they're not quite as insaneo as slicks (hopefully providing some margin for my drivetrain...).

not exactly techically mathmatical LOL
but personal experience on weight loss & faster et

full weight but no a/c
no spare wheel but everything else

had my 2 racing 16" rims with 225/50/16" tyres in the back (i forgot they were there LMAO)
did a 13.8 1/4

my mum pointed out that i still had the wheels in the back
removed immediately LOL

next 1/4 was 13.66
278whp on 9psi :)

Ya, I hate CRXs well I hate all hondas. CRXs have like 90HP stock so getting one to have 400HP would be like making a 500 or 600HP supra!!! Plus FWD cars isn't as fun as a RWD car.

what mph was the 12.6 run and how much does your car weigh?

118 mph, 1.7 60ft on street tires. Very sticky track.

I have some vids of some 8.1 8th miles passes with awesome 60ft, but I don't have a vid of that quarter mile pass.

My car weighs 3310 with me in it.

I was going to blame the targa, guess not!

Jspec7m88
07-20-2006, 05:08 PM
LOL. I hate Targatops.

When I weighed my car, at the time, I had (2) 10" Subwoofers in the back with a little amp (just some extra bass), Every tool imaginable to pull the motor and fix something on the side of the road, and cleaning stuff. I don't know...My car really doesn't even feel "thaaaat" heavy, but it is.

gixxer750
07-20-2006, 05:13 PM
My car is a targa. No heater, no A/C, even the underdash stuff is gone.

Took all kind of extra clips out in the engine bay, cut material out of bumper support, took sound insulation out of hatch, spare, jack, and other replaced with plug kit and c02 inflator, lots of other things removed or modded, no cruise....

daledoe
07-20-2006, 07:55 PM
I just took the bumper support out all together!!!
