89+ Taillight Install on 87-88 models: Who's done it

I was doing my 89+ taillight install on my 87 MKIII yesterday. I had a problem though when it came to switching over my lock cylinder. There was no where for me to secure it down with the ine screw. Also the cylinder sits about 1/4" back, even though it is pushed as far forward as possible. I'm concerned about water leaking in there.

Has anybody else have similar problems? What did oyu do to correct it?

I took the lock assembly off of the original center piece and modified it to fit the new 89 center section.

yeah water will leak, the only way to make it clean is to get an 89+ replacement cylinder.

as for me, i just shoved my old one in there. water leaks in there im sure and eventually itll all fall apart and ill have to take it out and do it again the right way.

oh yeah, lesson here? do it right or do it twice.

go get and 89+ lock cylinder.
