View Full Version : bad oil pump, any ideas how to fix?

Is it possible to lift the engine just enough to clear the front crossmember? I really don't want to pull the motor again, or drop the crossmember.

i dont think youll be able to lift it high enough, but it might be wortha try, whats wrong with the pump?

I had rebuilt the motor 2 years ago, and the brand new pump i put in doesn't make any pressure. so the car has been sitting for 2 years, and i'm finally ready to work on it again. i only need to lift it high enough to take off the pan, maybe 3 or 4 inches i hope.

if only 3 or 4 inches, maybe, you might need to take the valve covers off to clear the fire wall, theres a littel lip there.

Has the motor made good oil pressure after the rebuild, or has the pressure been low ever since? If it hasn't made good pressure since the rebuild, it could be bad bearing clearances.....

Yep. And if it makes "no" oil pressure, I'd bet on the sending unit being to blame.
No, you can't lift it high enough, drop the member.
Actually, if it makes no pressure, pull the engine.

.... and check the bearing clearances.

i only ran it for 3 minutes after the rebuild. i had a mechanic friend come look at it, and he said it's got to be the pump. i pulled the pressure sending unit out of the block, cranked it a few times, and no oil came out of the hole for the sending unit.

Anyone remember that one guy who was going to "eliminate the hard pipe" for the oil pump.... :1zhelp:

your shit is ate up like Hogans goat. "Only" three minutes no oil = fried motor. Time for another rebuild.
