Oil Leak

I'm leaking oil from the drain plug on the oil pan. I think the threads from the oil pan are messed up because i got a new drain plug and it still leaks. Any ideas on how I can stop the leak from the oil drain plug? thanks guys

did you remeber to replace the plug gasket? is the drain plug tight enough? have you tried to look into finding a tap and cleaning the threads?

Yeah i replaced the gasket and it is tight. One of my friends just told me about tapping it so I'll probably have to do that on Monday. Thanks for the help!:)

The oil pan has a problem that can develop. Mine did.

With the oil removed, put you little finger in the hole and feel all the way around inside. It seems the 'factory welded in' nut/threads is not 'all the way' around. There seems to be a little gap, like a "C".

After many changes, and tightenings, the sheet metal surface (that the gasket seats on) distorts a tiny bit. This creates a tiny gap so the gasket, which is very hard, won't fill in this gap. Then, it drips.

I tried 3-4 different gaskets, and finally ended up using a washer for the garden hose. I wrap the threads of the plug with teflon tape too.

You might be able to use the regular gasket with the teflon tape on the threads.

Last time i did the oil change i used teflon tape wrapped twice around this. This time i wrapped it 5 times and the leak was about the same. I'm gonna try the washer. Should I get a metal washer? How much bigger than the rubber gasket should i get it? Thanks, I really appreciate the help!

The correct model would appear to be F103 (Toyota >88). Since the supra
spans 86-92 its not really clear if this one will work (the drain plug part number is the same from 86-93 ). JJ, do you remember if this is correct?

I am now thinking it is F104. The site www.lubricationspecialist.com shows a different cutoff date of 1993 for the F103. The threads of the F103 are also spec'd at 12 x 1.25 which does not match up to your 18mm.

Yes! F104 is correct. It's all coming back to me now. The darn thing has been on my 87 for many years but I once had to drive around with an 18 mm spark plug as a drain plug so I know it fits ;)

I am curious to know if the Fumoto drain plug solved your leak problem?

I had the same leak/drip for weeks, Drove me nuts. I ended up getting 3 fibrous washers and sticking them onto the sump plug then some teflon tape and tightening it up but not too tite,just nip it up or the washers distort and get chewed out. Hasnt leaked since.
