View Full Version : MT ET DRAGS are rubbing

so i installed my 15X8 centerline telstars with a 26.0X10.5 ET DRAG tire. i have about and inch of fender clearence and when i launch or get on it, i get wheel rub. it's pretty bad and has rubbed off the paint on the inside of the fender.
do i need to go to a smaller tire.

sounds like it you when with the widest tire they have if i remmber the right
only way to fix that mabye is to incress tire persure but you may up rubbing again btu yae can try it

there shouldnt be any rubbing at all w/ those tires. what is your camber? what is the offset of the wheel?

The problem with the ET drags is that theyre sized differently than the ET streets. ET drags are measured by tread width while the streets are measured by section width. THerefore, a 26x10.5 ET drag is more liek a 26x12.5 ET street.
My advice is to either get a 26x10.5 ET street (which i used to use and the car squatted hard with no issues), or a 26x8.5 ET drag. Either way i believe that should solve your rubbing issues....

slow 66 is right but see thous tires are in 2 diffent classes
ones street the other is mod class or drag slick class what ever you local speedy way wants to call it
oh yae i know the drags grow more but how much more do they grow

damn, i didnt notice they were the drag, not the streets.

yea, i think i need to go to a et street...
also i'm having ahrd time launching on slicks. i'm bogging off line, at about 3500 rpms..
any advice??

What air pressure are you running? Dumping or slipping the clutch? 2 step?

Sounds like you need to launch at a higher RPMs. I had more success lauching at over 4K.
And Slow66 hit it right, those tires are wider than 10.5 since they are ET DRAGS.

I am with Brian on this. I am actually going with a bigger tire (width wise) next time out. 26 x 11.5 x 16. I have never had any issues. Maybe it is the offset of the wheel which is not helping? :dunno:

the car is lowered; but i don't think that would cause such a huge rub. i'm running the 15X8 with 5.5inches of backspacing

26x10.5x16 ET Streets on sawblades here. Guaranteed fit on my car with H&R's to boot.

Unfortunately, its still not enough backspacing. About 6.5" woudl be ideal for us on an 8" drag wheel, and woudl probably allow that 10.5 ET Drag to fit with a rolled fender.
I think your only option is to get a smaller tire unfortunately.

For your setup, i would definitely go with the 26x10.5x15 ET street. They'll hook plenty, there technicaly DOT legal (dunno how fussy your state gets on that kinda stuff), and they should tuck even with the drag rims.
Another thing to consider is to swap in some stock stuts/springs when you plan to go drag racing....may give you that extra bit of clearance you need.
Its either that or switch to a 26x10.5x16 ET street on a sawblade where it will fit 100% even lowered quite a bit.

You will have to launch at a higher RPM with sticky tires. I launch at about 5000rpm with my 61mm turbo to avoid bogging. This is with BFG DR's. I try to do a fast clutch slip. Its gotton me 1.80 's so far.
