Here's my extremely basic setup when I first got it in before I got to hiding the wires. Not the loudest but gets the job done on the inside.

it's actually all been pulled i'm chucking one of the subs and lowering the box more to a size like supraman's (a little taller) even with the hatch area and only gonna use two of them. but when they were in sounded great as it was all with boston acoustic fronts, now i've got a matching set of JL 6.5 components for the front and gonna get something else for some rear fill, this is all after the rebuild (or new motor) then try to run an in car pc like somebodies post i just was reading a week or so back...

Heh, mine's more "store-bought" than "custom" right now, but it allows for targa storage, is easily removable, and took about 3 seconds to install. The amp was another story--I spent some time fitting it under the passenger's seat, but it's almost perfectly hidden. The system actually sounds pretty good, to me; I like bass, but I don't want people a block away to hear me coming. 10" SVC Rockford Fosgate driven by 400w Kenwood Amp...has worked flawlessly for me for the past 5 years or so.

How do the audiobahn subwoofers sound?

heres mine pretty basic but sounds great
How do the audiobahn subwoofers sound?
the audiobahn subs sound great, considering i only paid 250 for two 10" dvc subs and a 400watt 2 channel/800 bridged amp. i think the subs operating range is 500 watts with like 1k max. might be wrong though.
but yeah, audiobahns are pretty good quality, the baskets look nice too.

Ive got a Kicker L7 on its way....
How big you ask?.....
8 inches of pure thump!
I wanted to keep trunk usage to a minimum so I went with one 8 and Im finishing a box. Just waiting for the sub and the wiring kit to come...
Borrowing my friends Hifonics 1600 watt amp untill I can order mine.. Nice guy hehe

HIFONICS FTW!!!
Has anybody mounted a sub in the spare tire well yet? I'm thinking about custom fiberglass enclosure and a 10" speaker maybe. I don't want everything in the car to rattle, but seriously, the supra has 4" speakers (minus the 91+) I just want some low end.
yeah a lot of people have done that, but youll need to add a bit of reinforcement to it by glassing it. just make sure to take your time and do it right, and itll turn out great

:D you just may hear me, too, Clip :)
Unfortunately it's going to need about 8cu. ft of fiberglassed space for a ported box...I'm actually worried for the safety of my rear window lol
I may end up just going with 1 w7 for both cost and space reasons

Jeff, It can't be good to have that much heat from the amps without anywhere to go...Also, it's not in the best interests of sound quality to muffle the sub like that with the carpet.
Jeff Lange
08-01-2006, 07:08 PM
Both of those are concerns that I thought about.
1. Heat is not an issue, I've checked many times, there is a ton of air space under there to keep the amps cool.
2. The carpet will be getting cut and an acoustically-transparent fabric will be stitched in above the sub. Also, for the record, carpet will do very little to muffle the low frequency vibrations of a subwoofer, and it is almost entirely unnoticable as to whether the carpet is covering it or not. (I've listened MANY times in the last couple years with and without and couldn't really tell the difference beyond my own percieved range of placebo).
Either way, it's been years since that setup was put in there, and I have no complaints and have had no problems whatsoever. There are no heat issues, and the sub sounds great. Some small changes will be made still, but nothing that will significantly affect the setup, so I doubt I'll take any new pics when I make them ;).

but i love my custom rear speaker pods ;)

I had a car audio shop make them... Basically they made a peice of wood to fit in that panel the same size/shap of that vinyl OEM panel. then they made a wood circle with the inner diameter to fit my speaker, and the outer diameter about 1/2" larger and propped that up at an angle to the base panel using dowels. Once that was in place they stretched out cloth from the center of the speaker hole out and around the edges of the base board. Then they juse put the fiberglass resin over this cloth so it would harden, made several layers so it would be very stiff, removed the wooden dowels, and gave it a light sanding and then stretched overtop and glued down the color-matched vinyl.
