I'm going to swap my LSD tonight and had a few questions...

one: when I'm filling the LSD up, how do I tell when full? do I just sit the diff level and fill till its to the fill hole?

two: just so I can be prepared... when I disconnect the halfshafts, will i have to disconnect them from the wheel as well? or will they just get out of the way? obviously i'll find this out when I do it, like i said, i just wanna know what to expect.

I didn't have to remove my half shafts...was able to get some wire and hold them up out of the way. It is difficult to get them back down over the differential output shaft studs...kinda had to work it a bit. Since this is a Supra...your milage may vary :naughty:

I am in the middle of swapping out my rear diff. 1 of the two bolts that go straight up through the ears on the diff just keeps spinning. Is there a nut welded up in there or something? anyone have this problem?
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks, Dan

You could try to search under threads started by Dr.Jonez, or do a search for lsd swap.................lol and good luck.

Funny, I just did mine on sunday. When I dropped my diff I just let the half shafts come down with the diff and took them off when they got fairly slack. I then let them rest down, slid in the new diff, put the half shafts on (with the jack in the down position) and jacked it into place. This alleviates a lot of the tension on the half shafts and makes re-installation easier.

ee if you can feel the back side of the bolt thats spinning.

trin to et a better description of where it's at..

i have had luck before tightening stuff back up, then using an air inpact to zip them off..

i would get some liquid wrench and soak that sucker (spray) and work it, that should work if there is still some drag on the bolt that's spinning..

So you guys like the 4.30???? I thought the 3.91 was the one to get. I use my car for commuting so I guess the 3.91 or, even better is the 3.73 are best for me.

it really depends on what you want. My Supra is my fun car. I don't need it to be uber-efficient as I don't drive it unless I want to. I have my beater for everyday travel. The 3.91 is a good intermediary diff for performance and decent fuel economy. I was getting 20-24mpg highway and I was running really rich. The 3.73 would make that even better, but you lose some low-end torque. The 4.30 is all torque, all the time, but you lose the top end and that fuel efficiency. Decide for yourself.

I really want a 3.91. I have a 4.30LSD and its just way to rev happy for me on the highway. Even tho it helps me get off the line I would rather have sothing to keep the revs down

4.30 is too short.. even for a high revving 7m (going to 6500).. lol.. thats my opinion... having to shift into 5th in the 1/4 sucks...

i'd rather have no traction till third with 3.91's, that way i can still race fast cars past 120.......

i can get quite a bit past 120mph with my 4.3 differential. :) besides, there aren't long enough roads where i live to get much past 120mph. i'll let the other dude win, and i'll see him in the trees around the next corner... haha.

lol... no freeways eh?
i can say i tried to max my car out once... after the speedo pegged and the car kept pulling, i gave up... figured it wasn't worth going to much faster if i cant tell how fast im going any more..
