I just went out to get a bit of gas for my supra. 1st gear 3000rpm's 15 mph. 2nd 3.5 and 4000 rpm's. 3rd gear same thing, 4000 rpm's and it is a struggle to hit 20 mph. The engine is reving just fine. I think my clutch is slipping. Can anyone give me some suggestions as to what the problem might be??? thanks for your time everyone. mike

it's probably your clutch... if your clutch is fully engaged when your hitting 3.5k rpms and you're only going 20mph... I'd say clutch...

you should have smelled it if it was slipping that bad.
first thing to check is your pedal/rod adjustment..

Oh I could smell it. I think sinve I can't get any of my supposed buddies to come over and help. I"m probably going to take it to toyota. I'm pretty sure it's the clutch. thanks guys. And by the way congratulations on beeting anorexia. I called a number of shops and toyota was within 5$ of all of them and can get me in there nore quickley. Thanks guys and any other opinions would be appreciated.

better make sure toyota will actually do it... the toyota dealership around me won't work on a car that is more than 10yrs old if it hasn't already been worked on at their shop...

They quoted me a price. I'm assuming that means they'll do it. It's just a clutch and possibley a rear main seal. Thanks for the heads up though.

Absolutely replace the rear seal at the same time.

absolutely the first thing you should check. when i put in my turbo engine my clutch was slipping that bad, just because my pedal needed to be adjusted. check that out first.

THis hole is where the air intake leads to. I removed the piece that goes from the end of the tube obviously. I may go and get a dremel and really open that up and let it be at that. Take the circular end cap off of the entire thing and get rid of that fat ass'd canister in the middle of it. I'm thinking about some 3 inch type of radiator hosing clamped from one end to the other?????? Just thought I would run it up the old flag pole and see if I could gtes a lil golden shower. Frank Zappa..............., I liked it.

I didn't notice the oil leaking thanks Jonathan. Part of the problem...., Part of the sulution, or landscape. You guys decide. Some of these parts under my engine have a rustproof coating that should last the life of the car. Yes.., and Thank you

kinda preaching to the choir there supre. squid did a complete na - turbo swap...he knows more about the 7mge than most turbo drivers do...
again i urge you to check your adjustment...its very possible its just out of whack..
also its free..

thanks lank - saved me some time. and it should be the first thing you check, regardless of what clutch configuration you have. start with the simple stuff and work your way up

The same thing happened to my brothers car (not supra). We spent a weekend changing the clutch out, and he still had problems. The pedal was not adjusted correctly so the clutch wasn't contacting all the way. As mentioned, check the easy stuff first.

meh the link for the online TSRM isn't working so I can't show you what you need to do. But the short version is that there are threads on the arm connecting the mastercylinder to the pedal under the dash. loosen the jamb nut and twist the arm to lenthen or shorten the arm to increase/decrease the pressure on the master cyl. if you're having slipping issues, you should shorten the arm to decrease the pressure on the master cyl. there is another jamb nut on the pedal stop so you can adjust where the pedal sits as well. if you're still stumped I'll crawl under my dash later today or tomorrow and try and get a pic for you.

Ok, I understand about the pedal rod. BUt I honestly beleve it is way past that. My engine leaks oil like i piss when I'm on a fosters bender, ya dig. So for 300$ I'll let them go in and work there magic this one time. Because the magic that I want to work on is under the hood. I can work on the engine easily enough thus far. I hate letting someone under my hood and actually do work. BUt I have so many things that I want answered about this engine........, I'm gong to learn it this time, ESPECIALLY if I'm going to pay them 300$
Ij that was a great diagram..., I have seen a slave cylinder but I am not sure that it is the same one you are speaking of. I probably should have them change the oil pump whilethey are in there. Someone sugested this a while back in this thread I think I will price these. Hey guys I really appreciate all of you talking to me about this. Mike
P.S. Beautiful ride static pat. I'm sure you have thought about powder coating your rims black as well???

um..changing the oil pump means removing the engine, in most cases.

I'm a DRIVER......., not yet a machanic. And someone on this site told me that shit. So I repeated it to get a feel for the truth in the ordeal......, I appreciate your canter. Mike
P.S. I do everything to my supra that I can...., EVERYTHING. But I think I'm going to let toyota fix it . so I should have no worries. Other than how much can I really spend while it is there.

one problem at a time. you started this thread talking about a clutch problem and now you're trying to fix an oil leak? One thing at a time....
