My friend (AngryDrone on SF), and I just both did the Sogi short shift mod on our cars. First impressions: WOW. The car feels alot tighter, more notchy, I definently love it. It slips right into gear, and there is no in between, you're either in gear or you're not. I personally love the feel of it, and if you like that feeling as well, I'd say definently go for it. It's a good mod, and it's free. Here is the link it:

I'll post up pics tomorrow.

You said there's no "in-betweens". I'm sure you still have neutral....right?

Oh yes. I meant when you shift, you're either in gear, or you're not.

I have been thinking about do this mod for a few weeks, but I have been to lazy to do it. I think I am just going to do it after work tomorrow. How long did it take you, from start to finish, to complete the mod? Does anyone know the part Toyota part #s for the green truck bushing and the white bushing pivot are, so I can pick one up at work tomorrow?

In all honesty, I didn't pick up the green nor the white bushing. I think it's fine without them, I didn't get 'em.

I cut off the threads from the old piece, and welded them on to the new shifter assembly. You DONT have to do this, but I didn't wanna use an aftermarket knob.

wow, all I did was get out the sawzall and welder and she shifts like a Pro 5.0 now =) I bough some threaded rod to the original shifter size and welded it up custom height to the base

One caveat when doing this at certain engine speeds you'll get an annoying harmonic buzz through the shifter if it's a bit loose in the bushings.
(the rubber in the stock shift cancels this out normally)

I did the mod on my 85' celica about a year and a half ago, and also didn't get the new bushings. I've never had any problems, and it shifts very nice. Definately no complaints.

Yeah, mine is doing that, and now I know why. :( It's not too annoying because most of the time I have my radio up.

Matt: Mine did it exactly at the highway speed limit and used to drive me bugshit on semi regular 1200 mile round trip I was doing every second weekend! (temp solution was to drive faster to get it out of it's vibration range) ;)

in my humble opinion, you havent experienced the SOGI shift mod until you slap in a new green shifter bushing, and nylon end piece. it feels SO much better, and there's no vibration, no noise, and it's smooth and silky.

if you love the SOGI short shift mod withouth those two, you'll absolutely adore it with them. well worth the extra couple dollars.

what does this have to do with being NA?

anyway, SOGI mod feels ergonomically wrong to me. Don't like where my arm has to sit to hold it. The shorter shifter doesn't do anything for me.

C's shifter... now there's a shifter. :0

I just did the Short Shift mod and it is NICE!! I think this has got to be the best free mod every!! The shifter postion felt wierd at first, but while sitting in traffic I quickly got familiar with it. The install took me about an hour. (Probably would have been quicker if I didn't have to find a second set of vise grips.) I used to green bushing and the white as well. The gear shift just clicks into place now!! GotToyota? said it the best "It slips right into gear, and there is no in between, you're either in gear or you're not."

hehehe...this is such a funny thread....maybe its cuz i been in supra's so long...but the sogi mod is soooo old...and to hear people get so excited about it is humorous to me....don't get me wrong...my 83 P-type's shifter is cut down the same way with new bushings and i love it...specially with my 340gram Razo Shift Knob...

my n/a is just gonna be my daily driver...so i probably won't be shifting it all to fast anyways....you na guys are funny.

it is a great mod because it is free! but once i get some money i will probably do a c's shifter mod, because i was sold on a short shifter kit by my last car.

It's not necessarily about the fast shifting, but the throws and notchiness it gives compared to stock.

I have a little question about the items, cause Toyota said to me, that the
#33505-35020 isn't in supra's items cataloque, and it's like in 4 Runner, Hiache or smt. So is it OK for Supras also? (I'm confused :1zhelp: )
Thanks!

Since you weren't the one asking what's your beef anyway? Never mind, I'll just put you on my list and we won't have this little debate again. After that astonishing display of intelligence in the 9-11 thread it was destined to happen anyway.

i'm totally with you. it's amazing what people won't do....then again, society has equipped the current generation to be accustomed to having everything handed/given to them...are they still to blame? you bet. could we do better? yup. will things ever change? doubtful.

LOL, I hope you werent referring to me with the everything handed to you thing, if so its crazy how you think you know me man. Ive been working since the age of 14. I bagged groceries in the commissary until I graduated from HS. Hell during the summer months I would pick up a 2nd job every year. Went to college and didnt work my 1st yr, but with me getting extra money from all the academic and leadership scholarships I got I was set. My 2nd year I started working again. So no everything hasnt been given to me ive earned everything ive ever gotten.

And there is a way to say things without being rude about it, when you say things like "rocket science" which suggests he meant "its not like its rocket science." It can easily be misinterpreted as so, if it was done in a lighthearted manner he could have used a smiley. Simple misunderstanding
