I have had my distributer for about a year and about 10,000ish miles. During my last oil change i had my mechanic buddy take a look, at the cap and there were signs of condensation along with plenty of corrosion. Ive owned my car for two years in that time ive changed it once a year or so. Does this seem about right, or should it be lasting longer.

It should last longer. Did u replace the distributor rotor under the cap?

I had my '87 NA since it was new. Toyota changed the distrubuter once when the warrenty just ended. The car quit running and wouldn't start.
I think I might have changed the rotor and cap once more in the 15 years it was a NA.

Mine is original (I believe) with 165k. I recommend changing the cap and rotor every 15k miles. They are cheap insurance for better performance.
Also very important (I learned)...use some thread lock compound on the 2 screws for the rotor.
