View Full Version : May 6, 2006 Supra Meet in Greenwood, IN

Well I think just about all of us have been waiting for this to be finalized.
On May 6, 2006, we will be hosting a Supra meet of all breeds(MKII, III & IV's)
@ Hooters of Greenwood, IN. (Indianapolis address)
7551 South US Hwy 31
Indianapolis, IN 46227
http://www.mapquest.com <--A link for any who will need it:icon_bigg
As for timing, We will meet right around 12:00PM in the Hooters parking lot.
I will need to look into it a little bit more to see if I.R.P. will be available for running on that day, but ModernSpeedLabs has already agreed to provide us with a DynoJet. Prices are not 100% sure, but will be looked into as well.
The rest of the day can consist of cruising because there are plenty of "ricers" and exotics out there to play with. A BBQ is being decided as well @ either one of our houses nearby or possibly even at a park.
Although there are still a few things unclear, we hope for this to be a successful meet as I understand in the past it is kind of tough to get the Midwestern Boys gathered up. Welp, Get the word out! Hope to see you there!:biglaugh:

It would probably be better for you to go ahead and seal it up since you've already talked to him. Meanwhile, I'm going to try to find out what the deal is with IRP and if we can run that day. Thanks for the help!

No prob. We'll just need a final count of how many people will ABSOLUTELY dyno that day, and then I'll tell the dyno folks to expect half that number. ;)
(Seriously, though, lets get a final count)

Ugh... If Toyota doesn't get me the right timing belt, I might not be able to make it the way things are going right now.
I've got 5 timing belts, 3 from Advance, 2 from Toyota... NONE have been the right friggin belt. So I get the # off the old belt, it doesn't exist. WTF? O well, if the belt tomorrow isn't right, I'll be putting the old one on and worrying about it when it finally does break.

MSL is a joke. They constanly rip people off. Guy I know took a car there for some wiring. They gave MSL 380 and some parts to put on the car. 2 months later, they came back to get the car due to excuses and no work on the car. He wouldn't refund the 380, or was able to give the parts the car owner provided.
The car owner ended up getting NO work on the car and 200 back. No parts.. no wiring.. and 180 short.
There are many more instances of this on local forums.
FWIW, he used to run Defcon Motorsports up in Toledo (i think) Ohio.
Fuck em.
Eriol
03-10-2006, 03:37 AM
Really? We have local forums? The only one I'm finding is Indycarz.com, and it's kind of a kludge.
It's hard to find anything negative about them, but if you look hard, there are a few complaints out there.
http://www.indycarz.com/about20873.html
http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff107853.htm
How come nobody uses BBBOnline.com or ResellerRatings.com?
I would definitely shy away from letting them work on my car now, but it should be harmless to dyno there. Hell, I wouldn't trust any local shop with my car anyway -- especially not after the way Quinlin, which came so highly recommended to me, resurfaced my spare head.

Just curious how you can burn a clutch up winching a car onto a trailer... Am I missing something here?

I was wondering the same thing myself. If it weren't for Al's warning, I would take pages like the ones I linked above with a huge grain of salt.

03-10-2006, 08:57 PM
First off, I'm sorry to hear for the ones who had problems...There is always a reason for everything and if they were this bad all the time, surely they wouldn't still be open. I've got acouple friends that go there on a nearly daily basis. They've tuned his car, dyno'd plenty of times and exhaust work, one of the best running SR20 240's around. As for their actual quality of work, I can't really stand behind them because I haven't had any personal experiences...but for dynoing, I'm sure that MSL will be just fine!:)

Yeah, back onto the subject... Jspec, you should put who plans to attend on the first thread.
Yeah, that's probably a good idea -- keep current info like events, times, and who's planning on attending in the first post of this thread; so that people just happening across it can instantly find out what's going on.
mkiiSupraMan18
03-11-2006, 07:26 AM
Well, if people would read through it and keep up to date, it wouldn't be a problem. :icon_bigg
Got my timing belt yesterday, got it all but put back together, now I just gotta figure out how the heck all my vacuum lines ares supposed to go (It's NEVER been right) I need to post a pic up of the "current" set-up, it'd make a good "pwned" thread. I'll probably get the stupid thing together and get rk or something. :icon_conf

"Hey, boost PSSH boost! How are you?" <---
As for time, still planning to be there about 12! We will most likely end up hanging out there(at Hooters) for a little while and wait for Matt to get off work, lol.

03-11-2006, 11:24 AM
It's true that people should keep up, but I'm sure some people don't care to sift through our little off-topic tangents (timing belts? ;P ) to get to the relevant information. ;)
As for knowing people by their forum names, I'm weird... I've gotten used to associating people's forum names with them over the years, to where their real names just seem like random details about them. I only feel slightly odd walking up to someone at a meet and saying "hi, you're mkiisupraman18, right? I recognized the car from the pics you posted on the forum!" :)
mkiiSupraMan18
03-11-2006, 11:46 AM
And I don't feel bad at all saying, "Who da fudge are you?"
It's cool, because I still don't know half of the people I have seen at meets and actually talked to... But I'm just cool like that I guess. Just ask them their names and remind them that you may, or may not, remember their name 15 mins from then.
Jspec7m88
03-11-2006, 12:06 PM
lol...Sorry, to me, it just seems more "appropriate" to call someone by their name when they are SUPRA BROTHERS:cry:
But that's cool, lol. I'll bring some blank nametags and a marker and we can get right to work with our screennames on our shirts! I'm down!:icon_razz

I saw a black mk2 with tints rims and exhaust in my small town's grocery store parking lot last night...he might be confused why some fool in a civic yelled "GO TO THE CHICAGO SUPRA MEET, MR. MARK TWO MAN!" at 11 pm.
If the guy's reading this, nice car.. and I didn't mean to scare you when you were just trying to get a soda...haha.
Driving a civic all winter has made me a little weird...I almost started thinking it was quick because it could edge out a stock mk3 turbo and kill some DSM's...I reaaaally need my boosted supe back to get these blasphemous thoughts out of my head.

Hehehe... that's exactly what I paid for mine. I probably paid too much, too... in retrospect I wish I had ponied up another $1500 and gotten a nicer example of one.
Speaking of weird stories, I saw a MKII (or it could have been a Conquest, I didn't get a good look) pushing some old POS Toyota (Corolla or some such) down Post road the other night.
I also had some Nazi-looking dude in a newer Toyota follow me for like half an hour last night... I couldn't really drive 10/10ths because I had a carload of stuff, but I still led him on a pretty spirited chase through some of my old stomping grounds... finally I stopped at a gas station to ask him why the hell he was following me, and when he pulled up next to me he just sat there and pretended to clean off the inside of his windshield, totally ignoring me. Weird.

The top of the pistons look brand new...after 8000 miles. Awesome. Too bad they aren't being reused. Goodbye stockers, hello JE.
EDIT: Pistons are junk, skirts and cylinder walls are scored up something wicked. Rods and crank are still good....yaaaaaay. MDC, what caused the knocking sound if the bearings all looked perfect? Something with the skirts? Figure I'd ask someone more experienced lol

Toyota Supra 81-85 Radiators - PWR Racing
PWR Racing Radiators
This beautifully polished all-aluminum radiator features a 57mm thick two-row core that gives high-hp vehicles the extra cooling capacity they need. The stock height and width allow for a factory-like installation, and brackets are included that make use of the factory cooling fan as well. Vehicles with automatic transmission may need to run an external transmission fluid cooler as well.

Matt, Tim at Sound performance has expressed interest in the shell. Just wanted to let you know. I am not selling anything until I have heard back from you about it. You have first dibs, even if Tim THINKS he does.
He wants just the shell, but I am inclined not to sell it to him since I had a bad bad bad experience with him when buying parts from him for my dad's 87T. He had our money for 4 months, and we had no parts.
Ring me when you've made your decision....take your time, the shell's not rolling anywhere.
Plus he owes me 50 bucks.
This is probably the fastest part out I have ever done...I sold a good 80% of my aftermarket parts in one night without even posting up a thread about it!

They have a dynojet and I'm about 99% sure that it'll NOT replicate a quarter mile run. I do know that dynojet has an option for loaded testing.. but I'm SURE this shop doesn't have such a feature. They are not big tuners.. only a tuner would want loaded testing.

Anybody can show up to any of the ones labeled "street legal." Last year they had more "Saturday Night Midnight Madness" events than they have this year.
I believe anybody can also show up and race in the E.T. Bracket races too, but it costs more to get in -- starts at like $50, I think. Also, those guys are more professional, so it's a lot more competitive. :)

Well I'm on IndyCarz, and there is a guy on there that has a Supra and his name is Lee. I dunno..could it be a coincedence?:icon_conf
As for the IRP thing, the main lady that I talked to at the receptionist desk said that there were no planned events on that day. I dunno. I guess we'll just see. I sure as heck don't want to pay $50 to race against cars that will poop on me nor do I want to pay $50 to do something that could potentially break my car if I'm not careful!
Hehe, definitely.
The street legal events are like $15 to race. Sucks that IRP's website was down when we were planning the meet, or we could have picked a day that they were having one.

What kind of shape is the body in? :)
I'll try to call MSL tomorrow to get specific info on the dyno.
Body is pretty much a rust free targa, if you're interested in the shell... and i mean shell, PM me an e-mail addy and I'll send pics

No bondo in the rear quarters? I'm going to find out how extensive the damage to mine is in one of the rear quarter-panels -- if it's bad, I may just be interested.

Eh... if I bought it, it would be to swap the good parts from my Supra into... and whether I want to go through that kind of trouble depends on what damage I find on my Supra that's not immediately apparent (bent chassis, damaged/bondoed rear quarters, etc.)
Muhahahaha... and so it begins:

Thanks, yea if only he were in a real police car, would have seen him, I recall seeing him at the mall square. He's a prick too. He was like ou can't do doughnuts like that what if a kid walked out in front of you. I was like you were there I was in like a 100 sq ft. of open lot out from the real parking lot. Only person in the lot was in a car filming me, but I understand what he's saying, but wasn't like I was in traffic or around people. Oh well, can't get caught doing that no more.

Uh, no offense to anyone. But it's his job to be an asshole about it.
If you injured someone who was at the mall shopping I'm sure you AND the mall would probably both be in huge trouble. Sure you were in 100 sq feet of open parkinglot. What if your throttle stuck? What if you blew a tire and for whatever reason you lost control and ended up... I dunno... in the middle of a shop there? So many things could go wrong in an area like that.
IMO, stupid stuff like that shouldn't be done anywhere near an area that MAY be busy. I just hope you learned a lesson from all of this.
But yeah, I think I'm starting on the 89 this week. Gotta get that motor out and rebuilt.

04-11-2006, 08:08 PM
blah blah blah doesn't matter: there were still other cars there. Trust me, I love doing donuts and burnouts and what not, but ALWAYS choose a completely empty parking lot with no shops around. :D not hating, just helping.
What if your throttle stuck?
Obviously you(mkii) wouldn't have been smart enough to either,
A.) put it in neutral
B.) turn the car off
While putting it in neutral would've had your revs at about 10,000, it still would've meant averting hitting someone. Just my $.02--take it or leave it
O.T.--I'll be there 95% sure as long as my motor is back in my car by then. Freshly rebuilt with all of Toyota's advertised 232 ponies :D Maybe a few small goodies by then, but I doubt it.

Agreed. None of us can verify if this parking lot was really "burn-out" safe, but either way, the cop saw him and took action. NOW. Back on topic...
For those who are not on Supraforums, there are going to be a few more Supra's coming from the Dayton, OH area, some other MKIII's and possibly some MKIV's. Yes, MKIII'ers are suppose to be against MKIV's because they take up all the light, but nothing wrong with having them there(even though they will probably ignore us, lol).

Also, if enough of us dyno, he said he may cut us a deal.

Hehe... yeah, I guess Indycar drivers have been known to show up and mix it up with everyone else.
Actually, it's $18 a race, or $45 for 3 races for cardholders. They generally require you to wear the blue suit and a helmet, but I've heard they relax the suit requirement sometimes in the summer when it's really hot.
Jspec7m88
04-12-2006, 05:15 PM
Yes, I was going to say, it would get hot as hell lol. Yeah, I was just looking at the carts themselves and such. 9HP, baby. Excessing speeds of 40mph! I was originally thinking of just going to Rascals (Whiteland) because it's close to Hooters area....but then again, what's a meet without driving all over the place and cruising anyways.
Now I'd like to get as much feedback as possible on this one...
We are going to be meeting at Hooters...originally, it was just going to be a "meet" spot...but while we plan to meet around Noon(Lunch), would you guys be interested in actually going in and eating? Let me know, because if so, I'll probably need to call to make arrangements/reserve if we are going to have 10 or more people.(which I believe we will:))

Yes, I think this meet might just turn out to be better than I thought:). This will be a rare meet for the Midwest...(actually having a decent meet). Well, are we going to be eating inside Hooters or not? I think a lot of people will be dynoing, so there is 75 bucks (unless we can get a lot of people to dyno, then he'll drop the price). Its going to cost another almost $20 to go-kart, It sounds like it's going to be a very expensive get together...I say we just settle it on the tracks at Rascals go-kart track that is much cheaper. It's up to you guys...

HAHAHA. I was kidding about that. The carts that we are considering are hardcore go-carts that require a helmet and a jumpsuit, blah blah blah. I think we might just go to this other "Gaming" place that has Go-carts, other video games and of course...DAYTONA USA :):):) (Matt, you don't want none.)

I have a question... whats keeping this from being a yearly thing? I've wanted a monthly/bimonthly Supra meet in the area sooooo bad since I got my first Supra. Damn that would be SWEET! Change up locations, hell, the best would be when someone was doing a rebuild a few ppl caravanning up on a week-end to help 'em drop a motor in or w/e. That'd be the TITS. Speaking of which, with enough notice (and possibly gas money) I'd be willing to help anyone with something of that sort, provided it's not half-assed and U have all the parts. lol MDC will tell ya, I ain't slow. :icon_bigg And anytime anyone wants to come to Westport to help me, just swing by, there's always stuff to do! :icon_bigg
As far as the Westport DQ goes, whats wrong with high school hookers? :naughty: That place has gone to shits since I worked there back in.... Jr High. The chicks friggin suck now.
And 87CandyBlueT, honestly, we aren't trying to be uber negative or whatever, we just DO NOT want this crapp going on at the meet. I mean, the last thing we want to happen is for someone to get hurt or tear their car up and not be able to make it to Chi2k6, or be so pissed off they sell it (if that happens at this meet, I call first dibs on "how much?" :icon_razz ). Or atleast that's how I feel about it. It's nothing personal against you or anything, but if you wanted to do doughnuts the best thing to do would be to go to an auto-x somewhere and just let it eat around a sharp corner. Sure the old people would get pissed, but it's legal, and it's always in a safe environment. Sure putting it in neutral or turning the key off are ways to... "help", but with any amount of speed a lot can happen while you take time to react to the situation.
There, I said my peace. $.02 to all who attend from me.
