Con rod/crank play (video)

My friend pointed out there is play in my new motor between the con rod and the crank. Its a low miles motor, I took a short clip of the play, is it normal? It kinda sounds like rod knock but I havent fired it up yet, tell me wut u think, heres the vid THX

It's a USED motor you have no idea how it's been treated so it could be totally shagged no matter how low the miles are.....

If it's suspect return it but I'm guessing since you've cracked it open you have no warranty...

no there has to be a warranty, I had to change the oil pan and oil pump, they sent me a cressida motor. I cant imagine a low miles cressida automatic being beatin that hard, its in no way a sports car. I just need to know if its normal to have that space in there or not. I dont wanna fire it up to hear massive rod knock

No, it is not normal, that is rod knock. The car they pulled it out of was sent to the junk yard because the owner ran it out of oil.

I cant view the video but a rod should have fore and aft play 15-30 thou in most engines. If you can feel the play in the direction the piston travels Up and Down in the engine then yes it will have rod knock. With fresh bearings and Oil in the install movement in the direction the piston will move the rod is almost imperceptable.

arz: I can hear it "knocking" in the vid, just by holding a rod bolt and moving it back and forth through the freeplay. That thing's gonna wake up the neighborhood with it's knocking when it starts.

Porterz: The engine doesn't have to be beaten, just mistreated, lack of maintenance, so on, so forth.

guys calm down.... the knock is NOT up and down knock its only side to side, the up and down is solid!! You guys get so skeptical about everythng

I just looked at my old motor with rod knock, the #3 cyl had a bad bearing all around it is a goldish copper sparkles and it moves side to side freely. I think the golish sparkles have somethin to do with the bearing exploding?
