anyhow, still collecting parts for the race motor. prolly about the throw an extra stock engine in after a refresh just so i can get the stand alone tuned up as good as possible before the race motor goes in that way ill have the best possible base tune. current 7m has had it. still run and pulls strong, but sprays a ton of smoke and oil out the crankcase vent. lol.

Nice!!! Those wheels look absolutely amazing on that car. What's with those breather filters though?

those are the crankcase breathers. i did that cause the bloby was so bad. now its worse, so im replacing the engine. i didnt want to be blowing seals left and right. anyhow, i also plan to make the new oil an and whatnot wit hthe new stock engine so i can test out all the oiling mods and whatnot. if the new intake mani is done ill install the new turbo setup as well just to see how it all works together. then once its all done ill paint it and start on the motor for the 85. going with a 3.1l 6m with 12:1 comp, cams, headwork, 3 40mm dcoe webers, 6-1 header, etc.... then got to finish the sbc 400 in my 64 truck. already got some 291 camel hump heads for it, new intake, carb, etc..

anyhow, i have 2 sets of 17's for sale that fit old 4 lug toyota's. once both sets are sold im ordering a set of 17in braid future gt's for this one, 17x8 front 0 offset and 17x10.5 +15mm offset rear.

those are the wheels im gonna go with, except im going with anthracite centers. then the 16in enkie's will be put on my 85 and then ill use the 15x7 enkie's i have for spare rims and the 15x7 are mesh wheels will stay drag wheels. they clear the bbk. also, if anyone knows someone with an old celica or supra, zcar, etc.. let them know i got these for sale.

i'm a sucker for MK2's...just wish I could find one in great condition. Just about any around here are rust boxes. I'd trade my BMW M3 for a solid MK2 more than likely.

no real updates, just figured id say thnx. my 1st set of 17's sold and i bought a tig wit hthe money as i couldnt pass up the deal i got. then bought a speedglas 9002v to go with it. lol. now the 2nd set should be sold soon as a friend of mine wants them and said he should have the dough soon. once he does ill be getting y truck legal and buying the stuff to rebuild the complete 7mgte shortblock i have in storage to throw in so i can get he ms2 tuned up. kinda got sidetracked rebuilding one of my bicycles. lol. otherwise the stock 7m rebuild would be done. i rebuilt my specialized fatboy hemi (4130 chromoly monocoque frame, 3 peice crank, etc..)for those that know bmx bikes and ordered a set of spin fr175's (3 spoke carbon composite mags) off ebay. lol. alot of $$$ for used wheels but worth it, the sealed bearings are butter smooth. lol.

got the stock oil feed for the oil filter plugged with a 1/2 press in plug(pressed from the inside), gonna drill and tap the hole below the filter and tap it for 3/8ths npt and run a 3/8ths to 8an adaptor to feed the external filter then put a 8an adaptor in the feed on the block to the main galley. the block also got primed today, and that old bearing thats painted red, thats the color my block is gonna be. the oil line and fittings are for a mid sump mkiii. fabbed them today for a guy on supramania that bought them. just figured id take pics before i packed it up and shipped. also, the blurry pics were me playing wit hthe zoom. i need to learn how to use the focus. lol. its a new cam, havent figured everything out yet.

i pulled a 7mgte at the pick and pull the other weekend and the r154 as it seemed good too. car was bone stock, still had all brackets and stock airbox, paper filter, stock exhaust etc and was wrecked. dont know the miles. cluster was already gone. anyway, checked valve clearance and they were all perfect. checked the #2 rod bearing as it looked like a lil heat on that rod throw and perfect. so heres to hoping its perfect. lol. i changed it this past weekend. almost done. it rained all day sat and i was working outside or it would be done.

got the head off the old 7m. took a few hrs longer then expected cause it was raining and also i couldnt find my deepwell 14mm 12 point socket to remove the head studs. went ot 2 diff autoparts stores, only sold 6 point. ended up going all the way to sears for it. anyway, got the head off, the mhg is fine. but as i suspected the #1 piston was melted badly, in 2 places. the head however is fine. heres the pics. lol.

well, helicoiled all the exhaust studs. new 90deg coolant hoses. new coolant bypass hose so no tb or isc cooling. or heating rather. lol. new vac lines. disconected all the bs vac crap i dont need. got rid of the egr, new plugs, etc...

the new engine after installing the mhg and arp head studs and the valve covers with ss allen head bolts.

the r154 i got with the new 7mgte that im putting in

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/williamb82/Picture015.jpg

drilled and tapped the back of the head and installed a 3/8ths npt pipe plug with red locktite to block the egr.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/williamb82/Picture016-1.jpg

same thing on the intake. no need for block off plates.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/williamb82/Picture017-1.jpg

another view. you can also see my pte 780cc/min injectors and note i removed the fuel pulsation dampener and installed a 6an fitting for the fuel feed. same on the fuel filter. so ran a 6an ss line from the filter to the rail.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/williamb82/Picture018-1.jpg

heres most of the missing aluminum from my #1 pistons. it was in the bottom of the pan. (yes i learned how to use the macro setting. lol)

update. got it running last night. runs smooth and even compression on all cylinders. no blowby from the pcv vents on the valve covers. sounds fucking AWESOME!!!!!!1 way deeper and smoother then any other 7mgte ive had in the car. anyway, got to fix the oil press gauge. its pegged full even when the engine is off so thinking i knocked the wire off the sender when i put the lower i/c pipe on. also the slave i put on took a shit the first pedal press so havent gotten to drive it yet. and i need to put my timing light on it and lock it in at 10deg btdc. other then that i got 1 heater hose im gonna change. it feels soft. dont see how i didnt catch that when the engine was out but oh well. its an easy one. also, before i start driving it opn a reg basis im gonna install my wideband a/f gauge and my autometer oil press and water temp gauges as well. im just happy its running and not knocking or smoking. lol. ill take some pics after i get to wash the greasy handprints off of everything.

williamb82
03-26-2008, 09:33 AM
oh it was fun before it blew up. lol. i got 780cc/min pte injectors and a maft with 3in gm maf. once i have my wideband in im gonna turn my 57 trim ct up to 20psi and take it to the track once i have the afr's safe all the way across. lol. ive got some 275/50/15 nittos on some 15x7 are mesh wheels so it should be able to hook good. lol. im hopin for 11's. cant wait till i get my ffi done so i can install my garrett gt4082, 24x12x3 fmic, ms2, etc...

williamb82
03-26-2008, 10:16 PM
well, the oil pressure is actually LOWER then a stock 5m even though i shimmed it. lol. and yes, 20w-50 castrol gtx oil. got the oil press gauge working, replaced a heater hose that was soft. put hte other slave cyl in but it needs bled again. pedal is a lil squishy, and set the timing to 10deg btdc. its fine up to about 10psi then feels funny. im gonna install my wideband before driving it on the norm and readust the settings in the maft to get a good afr all the way across. all in due time. runs good and feels great. man i miss boost. lol. hit it hard in first from a roll and even the drag radials wouldnt hook on the street. lol. shifted to 2nd hard and smoked em all the way to 3rd then let off.

anyway, its still dirty as hel but took a bunch of pics tonight so here they are. they show my new air filter i got from autozone, the plastic inlet tube from the maf to the turbo, also apc autozone pieces. lol. work great. look good in there too i think. also my 6an line to feed the fuel rail from the fuel filter, line lock, mk3 power booster and master cyl, dual ford contour v6 electric fans, greddy type s bov with the top powdercoated candy apple red with gold flake, blah blah blah. lol. also the oil filter location mount isnt permanent. im gonna buy some 8an ss lines to replace the rubber push lock that came with the kit and mount it underneath so its hidden but still accessable. lol. just laid it up there as the lines arnt long enough to do what i wanted.

ok, grabbed my gauge hood out. i mocked it previously with cardboard and 3 gauges i had laying around. if you look at the side view you can see it comes up in the back so wont sit flush on the dash. i have fixed this. i used an exacto knife and trimmed the edges from front to back to be straight. surprisingly it was easier then i though. the hard plastic isnt the same shape as the outer part and what needed trimmed was just hard foam and the outer covering that looks like vynil and is actually more like a plastic. i messed up a lil on the side toward the drivers side. it wont be noticavle once its mounted lukily. but i may try to have an apulstry shop recover it in black vynil if they can do it properly. idk. for now ill just dye it black to match the dash. may dye the dash too so they are the same shade black. mine is a lil faded from the florida sun.

also, since its been trimmed, the metal mounting bracket needs modded a lil to hold it down flush. just got to bend the 2 mounting tabs that attach the hood a lil and once the hood is pressed down where it needs to go, then mark the brackets with a sharpie through the holes and then pull the hood and drill pilot holes for the screws to hold it down properly.

also, i need to trace the cardboard template onto some aluminum sheet i have and then cut it out and center punch where the gauges go and break out the hole saw, low gloss black engine paint and jb weld. lol

i will post more pics as this progresses so people can see how it is attached. also if anyone finds another one of these and would like to sell it lmk. this one was from a 4 runner and had the inclometer in it. i dont need the inclometer. just the hood and mounting bracket.

goal is to come out clean like this, but with three 2_1/16th gauges

http://gallery.celicasupra.com/data/2/medium/IM000395.JPG

heres some update pics. got the rough piece cut to mount the gauges in. got to trim the outer curve a bit so it fits all the way in the way it should then i can mark and center punch it to use the holesaw to cut the gauge holes. then ill paint it black, dye the hood black and then jb weld the aluminum plate into it. also i got pics of the side showing how i trimmed it to fit the dash flush.

well, bought some duplicolor vinyl dye today and dyed the hood. this shit works awesome. i apparetnyly didnt get 2 lil spots perfectly clean so they didnt dye properly, scrubbed it with soap and water again and none of the dye came off at all. i was amazed. only had dried like 5-10min. anyway, touched it up and it looks good. now just got to sand the face of the aluminum piece and repaint it so it looks cleaner and then jbweld it from the inside then im ready to mount it to the dash and install the gauges.

well, my tax releif was in my acct today so i ordered the autometer 8k rpm tach and electronic 160mph speedo i want for my gauge cluster, the 25ft 3/8ths steel fuel line, the 6an tube ends for it, 6an ss braided line, hose ends, ss line cutting tool, insulated clamps, 3/8ths npt weld in bung for my air temp sensor. 3an fitting for my boost gauge so i can replace the nylon tubing with 3an ss line. also the flang for my 75mm ford tb and the plate to weld to the runners so i can get started on my front facing 7m intake. still need to buy the tube but ill do that later. ah. its amazing how quickly money disappears when you have a car to spend it on. lol

well, grabbed a gauge cluster from a celica at the junkyard today to cut apart for my autometer gauges. the plan is to run a 3 and 3/8ths 160mph electronic speedo and 8k rpm tach. and then 2 and 1/16th electric oil pressure, water temp, voltage, and fuel level gauges and all are z seires except the speedo, it is a sport comp. ill be sending it to autometer to have the silver bexel changed to a black one so itll match the autometer gauges perfectly. i had origonally planned to put a fuel pressure gauge where the clock is but after some closer measurements it looks like i can keep the factory clock in tact. i may try to put the fuel pressure gauge up higher in the cluster. i wont know if it would fit until my box from summit containing the tach and speedo get here. anyway, too kthe cluster apart and heres the pics so far. and btw, i plan to replace the blinker and bright indicator with led's which are also on the way. they are 3mm led's.

fedex finally showed up. anyway, heres more pics. looks like the clock has to go. lol. oh well. should all fit nice and i will have room for the fuel pressure gauge should i choose to add it to the cluster. anyhow. i need to find a piece of lexan or something to trace the stock cluster plate onto and get it cut out perfect then mark it and get the holes for the gauges cut. i doubt the clear cover will fit over the gauges but if it does ill leave it stock. if not ill cut out the front to leave it open but that way itll fill in the sides of the dash properly.

well, heres the pics of most of what i bought thursday. also i ran the fuel pressure line today. only thing is it isnt actually hooked up because i bought the wrong size fiting at the tank side. i bought a m12x1.25 and apparently it is a m14 and coarser. ill have to see what the fiting shop has next sat when im able to go. i did however mount the fuel filter bracket i grabbed from a camry and mounted the fuel filter in it and shortened the ss line from the filter to the rail now that the filter has a permanent home. ill take pics next week when i get the right fiting to actually hook it up. and btw, that ss braided hose cutter is worth its weight in gold. cuts through ss lines like butter. lol. man wish i had bought one years ago.

well, my tb flange and 1/2in thick aluminum plate to make my ffi for he 7m came in a few days ago. just didnt have time to post pics. the flange is way larger then i though and not drilled for my tb but ill jut drill and tap the holes for my tb myself. this will allow me to go to a larger tb later if i ever needed or wanted too. doubt it though. also, i bought the correct fitting for the fuel line by the tank today at the fitting shop. ill likely finish installing the fuel line tomarow morning when i wake up. went to a cookout today with some of the guys from work and ate too much so wasnt up to doing it when i got home. had to take the browns to the bowl and then chill out for my stomach to stop hurting. lol.

yeah, flange is from them as is the plate. pipe im gonna buy from online metals.

anyhow, bought some polycarbonate to trace the stock face onto. traced it on and cut it out with a cutoff wheel on the dremel. worked pretty good except for the smel of burnt plastic. the protective film is still on it thats why it looks bad. once all the holes are in it ill peel it off and sand the polycarbonate to make it easier for the krylon fusion paint to adhere to it. i got the holes cut out for the 2 and 1/16th in gauges. i need to buy the chuck for the 3.5in hole saw i bought as the one i have doesnt have a long enough drill bit. ill buy it tomarow. also marked the holes for the led's for the blinker and brith indicators. heres the pics so far.

these are the adaptors for the rear big brake kit. ill add more pics as i collect more parts and install it. the hats are machined from cast iron as the stock e-brake is a drum inside the rotor. it is designed for 12.19inx0.81in rotors and wilwood forged dynalite 4 piston calipers with 1.38in pistons. it should balance out my front bbk quite well.

sat i got the rest of the pins needed and finished wiring up the fuse box. 6 relays and 10 fuses. 1 relay which will be triggered by the main relay powers the 2 5 amp fuses for the injector banks, the 2amp fuse for the ms2 itself, and then the last spot a 5amp fuse to trigger 3 of the other relays. there are 2 relays from 30 amp fuses each to power my electric fans, that will be triggered by the radiator fan switch in the thermostat housing. there are 2 relays thare are powered from two 20 amp fuses that will power my dual edis 6 ignition modules and 6 coil on plug ford coils, and then the last relay from a 10 amp fuse to power my wideband, and then just a 15 amp fuse powering the wire to my line lock for the front brakes. no relay, just switched from inside the car. all the power wires barely fit inside of a 4gauge ring terminal and i crimped it.im going to put another ring on the red 4 gauge power cable i bought at the stereo shop and bolt them together and tape it up and run the single 4 gauge wire to the battery to make it look as clean as possible and keep minimal wires from exiting it. i used the exsisting pins and removed the wires and recrimped the new wires to them and soldiered them and heat shrinked them before putting them back in theire proper places. it took several hours to do this properly. but in the end i feel it was worth it for a nice clean install.

i still have 2 fuse spots and 2 relay spots left. later ill have 1 relay power two 5 amp fuses to power the injector banks for my water injection and that will be triggered on by a boost activated switch. so no relays or fuse holders anywhere in the bay, just the stock fuse box and this one im going to mount next to it. and all the wires exiting the box will have connectors put on prolly tomarow so it will all easily unplug if necc for removal. im trying to make this look stock as possible.

heres pics.

works great too. i repinned the whole thing to meet my needs. entire megasquirt runs off of it. theres a bolt hole in that section that i bolted it to. used a plastic bolt for now. damn homedepot didnt have the 3in long bolt in metal. ill have to grab a real one at the bolt supply next week when i have time. that box is out of a 93-97 camaro/firebird. accepts 8 relays and 12 fuses. i had to canibalize 2 other boxes to get all the pics i needed. most the ones in it are too small and would work on the heavier gauge wire. hence the robbing of the other 2 at the junk yard.

02-18-2009, 08:35 AM
well, i figured some more things out. found out why it wasnt reading the wideband. wasnt calibrated. theres 2 diff windows you have to choose wideband. single wideband in one window then calibrate and set it to the wideband you have, i have a aem linear so thats what i set it to. now the ms2 readout on the laptop is the same as the aem gauge. i havent driven it like this yet. waiting till i get paid friday and going to fill it up with 93 octane before driving around datalogging and tuning and such.

he's puttin down some impressive times as well. i believe if you can hook at the track then it will be a great to see two black mk2's smacking down the 1320. alot of the 7m mk2's are having a hard time hooking at the track from what ive seen. i've only seen a couple 350-400rwhp mk2's hitting the low 12s to high 11's so far. Your build is getting me motivated to getting mine back up and running though. :) good stuff will

williamb82

hooking isnt gonna be a problem. im afraid of breaking axels as i havent had the chance to fab the new ones i got planned yet. i got 275/50/15 nittos on my 15in are mesh wheels for the track and the rear suspension is set up good. never got to race on them but last i went o the track wit thhe old motor with a melted piston, i did a burn out then reved to 6k and dumped the clutch. it didnt spin, just hooked and took off. i staged up and then they told me i had to get of fthe track. crank case vent blew oil on the track during the burnout, they wouldnt let me race. trust me, ive got it all figured out, just didnt have time, now i have time and dont have the money. damn economy bullshit. i got a pay cut when my old dept shut down at work. it was either quit or take the pay cut and stay wit hthe company and wait/hope another good option comes along. so far no luck on the money front.

holy fucking shit!!!!!!!!!!!! my car is fast as fuck now. lol. well, its pretty much tuned all the way using the auto tune feature and driving it for awhile and just burning it to the ms2 every time i was at a light or getting off the interstate. previously the boost was ~15psi and without touchuing the controller it spikes to 22psi then levels back down at ~19psi. this thing is sick. i think the correct afr's with a better timing curve then the stock ecu had is the source of all the added power. i cant beleive how much harder it pulls. with my nitto drag radials on the back from a 3rd gear roll i get tire spin!!!!!!!!!! just rolling on the throttle. damn. its awesome. i have hada pop in the upper rpms a couple times. my tach in the dash isnt working and i was watchign the road not the laptop so i think i hit the rev limiter which is set to 7100rpm. i think the issue is im used to shifting when the power drops off up top, and the power doesnt drop off. lol. i need to hook my tach up or have someone rie with me holding the laptop thats brave enough to just look at it and tell me if i hit 7k or not. lol. all i ant to do now is tune the tps response a lil more and i think its set. cruise is in the low 16's which is fine. egts' never gat high, highest ive seen is like 1300 and thats under full boost in 5th. on stock ecm it would get in the low mid 1500's. mine is in the manifold right off the #6 runner. ill post my msq when everything is perfect. i think the autotune needs to tweak the cruise afr's a lil more. just got to do more driving. afr's under boost are 12.3:1ish. pulls like mad. god im so happy right now. i thought id be tuning for weeks. im going to try and get my ffim built asap so i can install that and the new fmic and retune it some more. should make quite a big improvment that way. oh, and the engine just sounds totally diff. sounds so much meaner and nastier its unreal. i LOVE it!.

well, ordered more stuff. ill post pics as the parts come in.

first is the big block chevy dipstick i bought. i dont like the 2 piece 7mgte design and this is long enough i can bend it and mount it behind the power steering reservoir bracket to make checking the oil easy. once mounted ill make a new notch on it with my dremel so i know where full is.

turbo isnt massive. prolly the best street turbo for me though honestly. its a garrett gt4082 with 0.68 a/r turbine housing.

as for the oil filter relocation kit. its one for a 5.0 mustang, bought it at automotive engineering on us19. lol. i didnt mount it where i want as i plan to replace those push lock hoses with ss braided lines and reusable fittings. that way i can plumb in my rx7 oil cooler as well. once i have all the lines and stuff to do it i will. hopefully soon. trying to get the fittings and stuff to do the oil lines for the new turbo first so i can route the relocation hoses so they wont interfere.

as most of you know ive been planning a front facing intake manifold for a long time. well this weekend had unexpected free time so me and my friend brian got a good start. i forgot my camera so these are the crappy cell pics i took. he is taking it to work to weld tis week then ill test fit it on the car and mark where im cutting the tube and make the end cap and tb flang. no iscv or cold start injector for me. dont need them. i have a polished 75mm ford tb ill be using and this pipe i recall was ~3.5in diameter. ive had it for awhile and planned to use it as at 16-18in long ill have the volume i wanted. its a long runner manifold obviously. gonna test fit it on the car to see if it clears the strut brace or if itll need a lil "massaging" lol. i did a rough measurment and it should just barely clear. lol. and dont worry how ugly it is. the plan is to polish it to match the tb.

well, got better pics. my friend is gonna try to borrow the mig from work so we can get real work done on it. pics of what it looked like after welding and then what it looked like after we cut the back and then started smoothing the welds with the sanding disc on the grinder till the grinder died. needs brushes. ill have to go to the dewalt place tomarow on lunch. its like 2 blocks from my job. once i put the new brushes in we can get the flange i started making finished. forgot to take a pic of t. already got the 3in hole cut in it and the bolt holes drilled and tapped. just got to cut it off the piece of plate.

as for the manifold as it is. we are going to weld on it more to fill the pockets so we can get all of it smooth for polishing and the entire thing will be polished. even the runners. i cleaned up all of the casting marks the 4.5in grinder would reach with the sanding wheel. ill do the rest with my dremel. once we get all the pockets filled and smotted out then we will weld the flanges and fit it on the car so we can get to work on the alt relocation bracket and the bracket for the trottle cable etc... its taking time but will get done.

well put new brushes in the grinder so we could cut the flange i made off the plate and made the back cap etc.. also dd a lil moe cleanup of the outsode of the runners to get ready for polishing. hopefully my friend can borrow the welder from work and we can get the flange and cap welded on and the finishing welds to smooth it all out done. the front of the pipe is gona be trimmed a lil so the tb flange will angle down a bit. make it easier to get the cold pipe to the tb.

well thats what happens when you use a mig instead of tig. since i got nowhere to hook up my tig my friend used the mig they have at work. he is a truck driver and they use it to weld the aluminum bumpers and stuff on the trailers and trucks when they get damaged.

well got it all back together last night and even installed the heat shields on the turbo manifold and turbo. had to cut a notch in the rear manifold heat shield to clear the egt sensor though. no biggie. today i pressure washed the engine with some engine degreaser. didnt go crazy. washed the whole car with it to get the leaves out of all the ooks and crannies. car isnt parked under a tree anymore either. lol. heres the pics i took. and for those that need to know. the size freeze plug to plug the hole where the cps used to be is a 30.06mm freeze plug. used a 19mm socked to drive it in with. fits perfect.

got the camry individual coils installed. i just went ahead and wired up the 2nd edis6 module tonight. works good. no more spark blowout at upper rpm's. i want to run a datalog to see if the ignition has smoothed out. it feels like it has. i dont have any more random pops either during cruise. heres pics including how i had to mod the boots and the internal metal thing.

well, saw a flywheel i thought ight work, its for a quad 4. so i took a stock flywheel to napa and grabbed a quad 4 flexplate. 5 holes line up perfect. so all i need to do when this flywheel arrives is have 1 hole plugwelded and redrilled to the offset position and then the center hole bored out to match the 7m flywheel. i dont expect that to cost too much. and this is a brand new flywheel, not used. a major step toward the completion of my 6 speed swap.
