This is the first time I took out a motor with the tranny and bellhousing connected, I took out all the bellhousing bolts and I got it out like an inch but it wont dissconnect from the motor!! I have been pulling and prying on it for 3 hours, is there something im doing wrong?? Normally I would take out the bellhousing bolts and rock the engine hoist forward and back until the splines slide out , this is the first time im doing it like this PLEASE HELP =(

Ditto times 1,000,000,000,000
The first time I pulled my engine, I knew about it and still forgot.
Do that. If you already have, grab onto the transmission and shake it like a baby. It'll come apart.

Hey man is your car auto or manual if its auto have you unbolted the flywheel from the torque converter you do this from removing the black cover under the back side of the engine, there will be about 6 from memory bolts to undo.

Flexplate on an auto, not a flywheel

so krazy nutta's post wouldnt apply to you. I agree, take the fork out, then shake it like a martini(I'm not abusive).

any suggestions for getting the flywheel bolts off without the engine turning over??

In order of preference:

1. Flywheel holding tool
2. Impact gun
3. Take off oil pan and wedge a block of wood against the crankshaft
4. Jam a screwdriver or something in the teeth of the flywheel

I prefer the impact gun, tho I have never used a flywheel tool. Pics please?(of the tool)

think big oil-filter-vice grips, but for a flywheel

ive always used a crow bar to hold the flywheel by a tooth pressed against one of the nubs that stick out of the block as a leverage point and set the bottom of it on a jackstand.. watch your head...

here is a very quick pik of what im trying to say..

ive never needed a tool for a flywheel, I just be sure to apply torque to my breaker bar so that i'm turning a circle thru the inside of the flywheel, basically make sure that when you're breaking the nuts loose the initial time, that the breaker bar handle is positsioned (sp and its early) over some of the other flywheel bolts
