My latest toy.
I made a custom mount. The one that came with it was a big bulky windshield mount.

It does, however, seem to be a bit slow.
It's coming from a server that's hosted off a cable modem.
I'll see about making them smaller tomorrow.

Great toy! I might buy one shortly.

Haren't those gizmos designed to be installed on the windshield to give good results...? I thought so.

Nice. How do you like it? And what are you running in the 1/4? ;)

It actually comes with a permanent mount, which obviously can not be mounted to the windshield :)
The best place is said to be center of mass which is why I chose to mount it there. Also with this RAM Mounting System (http://www.ram-mount.com), it's a breeze to get in and out and not have to try to get that windshield mount *securely* mounted...

...For drag racing and road racing, the ideal mounting point would be the center of mass, which is somewhere between impractical and impossible. But for a drag race, you only have to worry about pitch (which is why you don't want to replace the hood emblem or trunk latch with a Gtech.) But with RR there is also body roll, so the center point of the windshield (L-R) is the best. I would say "lower is better" too, but not so much that the unit is vibrating against the dashboard...

Mounting it is as far as I've gotten :( I'm looking forward to getting some data from it and will post some results.

little too clutters down there for my tastes... however custom work is always nice ;)

ive confescated my friends gtech pro which looks exactly like that except its black...and its pretty sweet.

however its kinda hard to get accurate 1/4 times and hp figures from it. one run it told me i had 996hp and the very next run i had 178hp... hmmmm lol

Idealsupra - what did you set the weight to? I went to the truck stop scales and they gave me a total......drum roll......3900 lb .... oink, oink, oink.
Also was it mounted very securely?

Now New Improved smaller images :)

Holy crap! 3900?! Geez! I thought stock weight without a driver was between 3500-3650ish.

For reference, the arm in the pictures is the - RAM-A-101 - arm length, center to center, 1 3/4"

a link to my post on the GTech forum:
http://www.gtechproforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1200

I got mine installed. I hope to post some pics, if it's allowed here. I mounted the base permanently in my miscellaneous bin below the radio. This system makes it easy to remove the G-Tech RR unit when not in use.

RAM mounting system for a 9/16" ball

RAM-A-101 - arm length, center to center, 1 3/4"
RAM-A-101B-arm length, center to center, 3"
http://www.ram-mount.com/ramwebcompthumb/Page0007.html

This place was the least expensive I found but they say 4-6 weeks delivery and they mean it. I got mine right at 4weeks.
http://store.getagps.com/rammoac.html
RAM DBL. BALL MOUNT W/ 9/16" BALLS - RAM-A-101 = $19.26
UNPK RAM SYSTEM W/ 9/16" BALLS LONG ARM - RAM-A-101U-B = $25.77

DrakeMK3 - I'm sure they have to have their scales certified. I'll try to post a scan of the receipt later.

looks cool. i guess 3900lbs was w/ you in it?

an alt method of mounting is you could prob use one of those satellite speaker mounts from radio shack or the like.
