so i bought a 87 supra from my nephew in peices. so im trying to put the darn thing together now with not the greatest luck. i presume that there prolly isnt any junkyards with supra parts round here in portland? im doing the auto to 5 speed swap, getting a valve job and surfacing the head. and since i prolly dont have every part i need (or the experience) i need some help...

not sure what parts i need yet but i know ill need:
seats
driveshaft (front)

cant think of anything else off the top of my head right now.

let me know where all the junkyard supras are!

thanks

You will need a headgasket kit. I dont think you will need valve seats, you can probably get them machined. As for the tranny swap you will need clutch and brake pedals, clutch master cylinder, you will need the lines from master cylinder to slave cylinder. You will also need flywheel and a clutch kit.

gah... so turns out my head is shot. torque freaks said that it was previously surfaced and it needs a deep surface this time so its kinda shot or im risking blowing up the engine... sooooo i need a new head! yay... not.

so anybody *local* got a head they wanna sell?
local is portland, oregon.. or up to 50 miles away..
thanks

3mm Cometic MLS Gasket ;)

well i could try that.. but im risking it as they dont know how much was milled the time before. so its possable that it will work, or it could just blow up lol. and i really dont feel like spending 300 bucks on a head gasket. 200 is ok.
also... wont using a 3 mm head gasket change the compression? i know shit about compression so yeah...

Well 3mm = 120 thou so I seriously doubt they've removed that much.

Even if it lowers your comp a bit just wind in a few more PSI, the low comp doesn't seem to hurt a 7M as much as lesser motors (We have a long ass stroke that gives good low end torque)

I'd get the head checked for hardness before I spent another cent on it though!

well ill looking to hit 500 hp from this car... so i guess im gonna need to know some shit bout compression... im not sure if a 3mm head gasket is going to like 20psi.:icon_conf

well I know I'm gonna need help. I've never put an engine together so I don't really know what I'm doing. all help and donations are excepted lol.

I'm going to need a head prolly. I foound one at a junk yard for 325 that was on a car with a blown hg. so far I'm looking at close to a grand for a head I can use :(.

There are people in the portland area who are knowledgable with this. You just have to find them, mattonedime does lots of motor swaps for the mk3. Also there are a few other people. Some of which you could probably get a decent head from. Im not really going to be one to name names but i will send you a pm.

You can by a rebuilt head off of ebay for around $450. If you by a JDM motor you have a chance of getting a motor that is old and worn out.

well i dont think i have all th parts with the engine i have now. so im not sure wh at i want to do.. how much can i get a rebuilt engine for? are they even that great? i was looking at jspecautosports' rebuilt engine with a 12 month unlimited mile warrenty. i dunno how much it cost though. i just want to get this damn thing going. if i buy a used or rebuilt engine i would be popping in a MHG anyway along with some of the better parts i have now.

im just not sure what i want to do anymore!

what up, well im in vancouver,

and basicaly picked up a car in similar needs..

my car was a n/a and i picked up a jdm 7mgte from jspecauto, it was 1475 to my door and took a month to recive my motor, i have heard people purchasing motor's localy though engines dealers and getting better deals..

i have a n/a head that i can sell yeah, it came off a car with a blown head gasket, and i think it's warped, doesn't come with cams, but i have alot of other stuff, also have an n/a block im tring to get rid of...

i was thinking 50 bucks, because thats' about what i would get if i scraped this, (aluminum is about 1.25 a pound..)

well if interested, give me a pm.

the worst part is the drivers seat, and obviously that everything is dirty, but i'm sure that considering the shape of the door panels, everything else would clean up nice.

Get ahold of Aaron @ www.rabidchimp.com

he is in Cali right now doing an on-site 6M install so give him a bit to get back to you. I will call him and give him a heads up. He's in Tacoma. You could probably have him come down and do the install. Good Guy.
