My car was idling fine. I did have the timing way advanced (not knowing it 15 degrees) and when I found out I adjusted to 8 degrees, when I first did this it still idled fine. I'm not sure if it happened that day or the next but it started idling at 1500 rpms. after it would cool off it would go backto normal. Sometimes it would not start idling high untill after being at high rpms for long periods of time (interstate driving) but now most of the time it stays at 1500 only rarely will idle normally. throttle cable has slack, no cel, idk any ideas?

A couple things, no CEL does not mean there are no error codes... check them using the info posted here: http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/TechTips/engine_error_codes.aspx

Second, you need to jumper the same pins that you jump to check diagnostic codes when setting the timing and the proper timing advance is 10º.

Start with those steps and post back you results/findings.

Well I did jumper those pins when I was setting the timing. I did notice that the cel was blinking I will have to check to see what they were.

Under my hood it says 8 degrees +/-2 degrees so I figured 8 would be ok. I will adjust it though it does seem to be a little slugish when first appling the throttle.

Thanks for the reply.

10-12 won't hurt, most times takes care of the sluggies :)

Let CRE know what codes you have.

25,26,41,43,51

25= AFR lean
26= AFR rich
41= TPS signal
43= Starter signal
51= Switch signal

Well I just put a cat on (this was after this problem started)
The PO attched a wire to the starter relay to I guess replace the "faulty starter wire" but he put it on the wrong side of the relay (maybe because he was still having starting issues not sure though) I guessing this is were the codes 43 and 51 is coming from.

Does this tell you anything? I am going to clear the codes and see which ones come back.

you cant set timing with a code 51. check out the thread below. I had a high idle. Once I followed the steps in the thread below my idle was fixed and I was able to set the timing properly. Turns out my tps needed to be adjusted. check it out.

I reset the ecu and 41 43 abd 51 came back.

When I first reset the ecu. I started the car and it idled at 3000 RPMS. I cut it off and cranked it back up and it was it was idleing at 800. It has been fine since. I'm gonna fix the codes and retime it.

Codes 41 and 51 are likely related...both are the TPS. Either the TPS is bad, the connector is bad, or the wiring to the ECU is bad.

Code 43 is likely related to the "starter mod" the PO did. The ECU needs an STA signal from the starter to activate fuel parameters for start.

Heh, is the TPS plugged in? Code 43 can also come up if you pop/push start the car.
