just did a rebuild %99 sure everything has been connected right including grounds. the car cranks but will not start. checked TDC, spark, and fuel. the only weird part is when i start it it keeps blowing a strong puff of smoke threw the intake manifold gasket every once in a while. let me know if anyone has any idea what is going on with this motor.

Its more then likely the CPS timing, took me a 2nd try to get it timed right on rebuild.

what about the gust of air that keeps blowing the gasket is that normal. it is a strong gust too.

The CPS being out of time can cause that. ingnites air/fuel mix when intake valve is open.

Yes sounds like your CPS is 180 degrees out.
Make sure the crank & cams are both at TDC & insert the CPS with the notch & hole lined up.
The crank makes two revolutions for every one the cams make.

If your CPS doesn't look like this, (see attached picture), when the engine is at top dead center, it = epic fail!:aigo:

ya had the right picture lol
OP check you cam gear dowel pins as well. if they're in the incorrect holes it will mess up the timing.

cps is the winner thnx. and if you hear a loud whine it could be the metal plate behind the cam gears. it happened to me and i couldnt figure out where the noise was coming from. almost cut the PS belt. finally saw it spitting small metal chips. banged it back and no more noise.
