High miles at 187k. Has a broken speedo cable right now so it could be +1-2k owner wasn't sure on how much he'd driven it since the speedo broke. Not sure which section of cable let go either so I'm going to go out and test the sections and post back which I need. Having fuel cut issues at around 4k and only boosting to about 4psi when cut hits. Have to start sorting out what that might be too. Unsure of the exhaust. Primary cat is gone, secondary is still there. Sounds nice at idle, pretty quiet on take off too. Has a K&N cone filter up front too. I don't think anything else besides those two items have been done to the car. Previous owner of the previous owner I just bought it from told the previous owner the engine had been swapped but there are no papers to prove it and no salvage yard marks either so I'm assuming it is still the stock motor/turbo. Going to check tolerances on the turbo and do a compression check soon too. I need a "sawblade" OEM wheel for the right side (labelled on wheels, have 2 left and 1 right) to have a full set of wheels or two of either wheels in the pictures. I don't have a full set of any wheels I have for it :biglaugh: Also, the shocks are gone for the hood so I need to replace those so I don't have to use a 2x4 or something else to prop the hood up. Last owner was a smoker so I'm going to have to clean and shampoo the interior real well to get rid of that smell yuck! :3d_frown:

Welcome! I'm just south of you down here in Allegan.

I've only had my '87 since February and it has been stored since that time. With the warmer weather I've started sorting it out. The good news is, I finally have a full set of the OEM "sawblades", I've figured out which part of the speedo cable is broke (the small one under the car), and found a loose connection in the intercooler plumbing that was most likely causing the fuel cut at 4k+. Bad news is I checked the tolerances on the turbo yesterday and it is shot. It is so bad, I can't believe it was actually making any boost. :aigo: So now I have two choices rebuild/replace or sell the car and work on a different project. Haven't decided yet.

Edit: Anyone have a spare, good, CT26 laying around and also the small speedo cable that goes between the main cable and transmission for a '87 MkIII 5spd?

This is my very first virgin experience posting on Supramania so go easy on me. Currently I have a 90 turbo targa with a BHG. Soooo much fun pulling the top part of the motor apart. I ran into a few problems along the way but reading the tech post helped big time. T.U.G. thank u God for this site. I should be finished hopefully by the end of this week! I am in Flint MI. Absolutely no mods yet. Just trying to get the motor right b4 the mods begin. You all seem to b pretty cool peeps so anytime yall get together 4 any thing I'm down 4 whatever as long as its legal. I only knew of one other cat who had a 7mgte in Flint but I haven't seen him since the spring. Wish I wasn't so low tech, otherwise I would post pics of my clean red 7M turbo. Let me wrap this up anyone feel free to holla back.

Wuz up FoolishOne. Actually I am not that far from Kettering. I am in College Cultural area a couple of blocks from Mott College. As a matter of fact I used to take my 4yr. old son to day care across the street from the Children's Museum. U must be a big brain if u r attending Kettering, Great school! Is your Supra running? 'Cause I can't remember seeing another Supra in this GM town. If it is riping up these streets I would love to see it. If its not riping up the streets and needs work get at me and maybe we can it get up and running. Today I spent the whole day putting my motor back together, still not all the way there yet but I expect to finish by fri. or Sat. This also the reason I post so late at nite. This is the first time I have done a BHG so I am trying to take my time and make sure there are no flaws and this bad boy starts up on the first turn with no codes or any other negatives.::bhg:: ::bhg:: Looking forward to doing my bearings next. I need to get 'er done b 4 winter comes because as u know FoolishOne MI. winters r no F#*@! joke. I'll check the threads a little earlier tomorrow to see if u have received this post. I'll be free after 4pm maybe we can hook up and check out our best dammdest rides in this GM town. Glad to know I am not the only sole Supra owner repin' from Flintstone.

Thanx 4 the welcome drjonez. I appreciate the acknowledgement. I really didn't expect it so quickly. I guess it just typical for great Supra minds to think alike! I am stil absorbing all this info from this site, but as soon as I get a chance and put down my tools 4 awhile I'm going to check out those other sites u have on your threads, maybe even sooner if I should run into another problem with BHG. US News and World Report has ranked Ketterng first for the past eight consectuive years for Industrial Engineering...can't be a bad thing (I'm an IE.)

The Supra hasen't seen much tarmac, but it seems like gas prices have plummeted and I will put some fresh stuff in her and see what I can do. She is 99% functional, the passenger door window switch is shot, but besides that she is running. I am orignally from NJ, so she survived the 11 hour trip without a hitch. I was hoping I was going to find someone out here, and nothing til, you came along. Being from NJ, I don't have anything for my car, and was wondering if, you didn't mind, I could come and use a few tools or whatever. (Like, I need to check the air in my tires and vacuum out my car.)

Anyways, I have Chem until 4:30 so anytime after that you can just send me a PM.

Whuts up 92turbo4life. To answer your question I went to Car Quest and got the basic replacement HG and the reason I did that was because of some info posted by Shaef concernig HG according to him a MHG isn't really necessary and the stock HG's hold as well as the MHG's. I did however torque the head down to 75ft.lbs. hope that will b enough. On top of that when I get this car right it will only have a few mods. Which will be 10.5lbs of boost, K&N filter and a 3" exhst. The car will b my daily driver and besides I have seen enough Supra's in Brooklyn kill motors over modding. Speaking of which all most all of the ones that I know in BK have 1JZ motors now. I kind of feel left out when I go back home and darn near everyone has the 1JZ or the 2JZ. My next intended mod hopefully next year will be auto to 5spd conversion. Then the next mod will be to get the 2JZ please believe its the only way to go for serious reliable where did that Supra go!? horsepower. I know of one MKIII now with a 2JZ motor now pushing over 500 horse and over 500ft that's whuts up!! Evo who, but u don't see me though. I digress, yeah stock HG for me and I wanted to avoid AutoZone, Advance Auto or any other discount auto supplier because sometimes their products are suspect. Car Quest is a little more expensive but their products are O.E. quality if not better, can't say the same for those other guys. My HG ran me 89 bucks new timing belt was 30 compared to 18 from Advanced. Nice price from Advanced but suspect to me. Since I do most of my own work I try to get it right the first time without worrying to death about reliablilty issues. I like 92turbo4life nice. I can relate especially since my other car is a Volvo 740turbo. Go turbo or go home!

I was in Houghton at Tech from '93-98. Didn't have the Supra back then but did plenty Copper Country cruises. It sucked when they knocked the 55MPH speed limit down to 35MPH for most of the cruise from Hancock to Copper Harbor. Those twisties were amazing compared to what we have here downstate.

I just missed heading up this year to the porcies for a camping trip. Had planned on taking the Supra for some nice open top cruising but my company had other ideas. Maybe I'll make it up there for a fall color tour :)

Headed out to US131 Speedway tonight to spectate. If anyone is out there, watch for a blue MKIII with missing door trim in the parking lot.

I was there from 88-93 and 94-96, and it was still 55 - never knew they dropped it to 35. :3d_frown: It was bad enough when they made K Day dry. The best were cruises up on my bike, but it doesn't sound like it would be much fun anymore, except for the color cruises, maybe. It's been 8 or more years since I've been there, and might be that long before I get back again, but I miss it sometimes.

Yup, I caught air a few times on the way back. There is a straight with a sudden upward jaunt that immediately goes into a left hand curve on the other side. Also, one of the exits off of Brockway does the same and cars can catch air there too. In fact, that site was used in the last few Lake Superior ProRally events as a media and crowd location :D

Holland, eh? I'm right over in Allegan. I've driven the Supra over to Holland and cruised around quite a few times. Wish I'd bumped into you while I was over there. Would love to see the swap. I'm up for getting together pretty much any weekend. There are a few west siders on here maybe we could drag them out of their hiding spots too. Taking the Supra out today for a bath.

Little OT, met a guy that works at Tri-City Toyota when I was in Midland the other day. Caught him backing out of his driveway in an '87 red Supra. Stopped in the middle of the street and chatted for a couple of minutes. Nice guy, said to look him up at the dealership if I needed work done. Forgot to get his name though :(

Nothing going on here, garaged waiting out the snow melt from the pounding we got the other week. Roads finally cleared yesterday and it felt good sliding back into the car, taking it out for a few miles drive, then washing up and putting it back away.

Hey Doc, have you posted the roller over on http://www.grmotorsports.com/ ? Their $2007 Challenge is coming up. There may be someone looking for a last minute project to enter. Where I am from there is no Dream Cruise coming to Michigan 4 years ago some young kids driving a bunch honda's put me on to the cruise. Needless to say i have been hooked ever since. Na, never got the call back, but we figured out the problem the ebay boost controller he bought was basically a piece of shit lol, i eliminated the boost controller and now he running off of the wastegate for a little, the spring is set at 13 psi and it does not go over, so i think hes happy about it, but we still might need to get a boost controller. i will give you a call sometime next week and let you know because i leave for silverlake tomorrow morning :).

anyways hows everyones ride coming?

no carpet. get that online, it's like $200 for a set....you just have to cut to fit.

i do have both front seats in grey cloth ('89+ pattern). i was going to put them in my mazda, but i haven't done it yet. i did cut one foot off the passenger seat...i think i still have it.

i've got a few interior panels as well if you need.

need any other parts?

Grey cloth seats is actuall what i am looking for.:biglaugh: how much do you want for both of them? and Can you replace the seattrack with another one?

As for other stuff, I need a R154 drive shaft and possibly a used clutch for R154 as well.

not that bigga deal, 2 guys were tryin to steel the wheels of my benz and my radio, and i just went out there with a bat, sorta put a hurtin on them, and basically demolished the car they drove, and their tryin to sue me now. cops came and still gave me assault n battery, and a few other bull shit charges. the other ones were mip and interfering :-/

i hate cops sometimes.

but your more than welcom to stop by n see what i have goin on. the motor is assembled, there a few other things im tryin to do.

im actually figuring out how i can carb the motor instead of efi!

That's really really suck and stink as hell. There's no true justice in this society. Bad guys allow to sue good guys, and bad guy gets away with your stuffs and you can't do anything about it. If you caught them and teach them a lesson, then you're the bad guy. I hate these sorta thing that happens to the good peoples. I hope they rotten in hell. Sorry, I just little :icon_mad:

Anyway, I will try to stop by this weekend to look at your stuffs. PM me your address and number and I will call you before I show up.

08-17-2007, 05:17 PM
lol when i came outside and caught them, they were like oh we were just looking at what brand wheels you have on, thats when i got pissed for such a weak excuse while they even had my doors open lol, i just made a baseball bat become their best friend for a little.

same shit happend to me also about 6-7 months ago kids were fuckin with the supra and ended up gettin their ass wooped.

i hate that shit, i dont go out and do shit like that why should they come to me and try to rob me. the cop said well you could of just called us and we would of handled it. i told him last time i was in the same exact situation and cops didnt show for about 20 min after they all left. the only just ice to me is takin these matters with my own hands.

but this weekend ill be working, next weekend might sound good, i have you cheack out a few supras that live around me actually. but their all MKIII :-D

fun, but i'd stick w/the SR20 or some lighter engine to retain the fantastic handling dynamics of the car. choose a different chassis if you're building a drag machine....or bust out the ford 9"....

Anyone have a spare TPS laying around? Tested mine this weekend per the TSRM and its lacking both the voltage at E1 on the ECU and two of the contacts are out-of-range when I measure its resistance. Both signs of a bad TPS :(

This was a big "work on sorting out the car some more" weekend. Items that were tested and/or fixed over the weekend included:

1. TPS as mentioned above
2. O2 sensor which is also out with voltage changes only happening around 3-5 times per 10s instead of 8 or more per the TSRM.
3. Tire patched and alignment. Front and back were way out of spec according to the shop. I have the printout if anyone is interested. :3d_frown:
4. Checked and adjusted timing. When checked it was running around 5BTDC and now it is at the 10/12 BTDC also per the TSRM.
5. Put on a spare original down pipe since the other one was falling part :)

Doc, you going to be around this week Tuesday or Thursday evening after 6pm? I'd like to stop by to pick up that set of lug nuts. I'll be driving the Supra this week too instead of the Escape. Got the tire patched and a much needed alignment over the weekend as well.
