well, ill start off with when i bought this car, i didnt know too much about it and what i was getting into but has been a great experience for me.

i started off looking for a cheap car with good gas mileage on craigslist when i stumbled upon a car i couldn't go without.
it looked like a nice 2door sports car that had some motor to back it up.

two days later, in april this year, i went to Cheney to pick up this awesome car.
a few things i had to fix before i drove it were the brakes, which were locked and filled with petroleum (said the guy i bought it from), and a clutch. i threw in an Aisin HD r154 clutch.

i drove the car to work maybe 3 times when i came home one day getting on it a little. tons of white smoke everywhere and had no power. there goes the HG :icon_evil

so let the building begin, thanks to my dad and CajunKenny for helping me along the way
i now have the motor rebuilt and installed in the car, but ill post some pictures on the way it got there.

between my toyota crawler and supra, they both keep me really busy

heres how i got the car from a kid in Cheney

pulling the motor/tearing it down

Re: A New Guys Supra Build

once the motor was disassembled i sent it off the the machine shop to get some work done.

cylinders honed, 3angle valve job, block/timing cover decked, head resurfaced, crank polished and everything cleaned. looks nice and fresh..
while it was there i had them throw in small block v8 chevy double valve springs (just the inner spring i think it was)

began painting everything

once the bottom end was put together i got some schweet parts in the mail...
custom grind 272 Snyder racing re-grind cams. these things are awesome!

Titan 2.0 MHG from suprastore

started putting the head and cams in. man those valves are fun to shim with no toyota SST :nono:

Re: A New Guys Supra Build

started putting on the manifolds and turbo along with some ARP head bolts

motor started going in right before we moved into town so i wasnt able to work on it for a couple weeks

heres a few pictures of the motor all put back together

broke the motor in and ran like a top with the stock fuel system and turbo

Recently installed a wally 255 fuel pump and drilled out the j tube.
Lexus AFM and RC 550cc injectors are installed. having a fuel pressure issue but will be on the road in no time.

next on the list is a JT62 turbo, have Maft pro just need to install it, and put the 89+ tail lights on. for some reason the PO had pre 89 tails and mirrors on?

Re: A New Guys Supra Build

I was waiting for someone to mention that.
It looks like he might have taken the pic prior to installing the cap? I hope?

Re: A New Guys Supra Build

When I first bought the car I figured I would just daily drive it and keep it close tp stock HP.
But now every time I hear the turbo spool I think a few more HP wouldnt hurt :icon_bigg

I would say around the 400-450hp range with the turbo I'm picking up in a few months from a friend

Re: A New Guys Supra Build

I'm not 100% on those numbers. Hopefully they are a little bigger than I think they are.

This is my first motor rebuild and has been a good learning experience for me,
Why might tighter clearances not allow for higher horsepower?

Re: A New Guys Supra Build

7M Blocks move around quite a bit under power, this distorts the Mains Tunnel and you'll see some funky wear patterns on the bearings.

Re: A New Guys Supra Build

been a little since i made a post so i thought id post some progress. cars running great with kennys tune and put down 310rwhp and 337 rwtqr at 10 lbs. i was pretty impressed, ill post up the dyno pic once i get it uploaded to photobucket again.

also picked up this holset turbo from a friend of mine, actually he gave it to me. i believe its an HX35w but im not 100%sure, the tag was pulled off the compressor housing.
either way it will need a complete center section which i can pick up cheap on the cummins forum.
next on the list to get is a t3 header, vband downpipe, and some modding to the intercooler lines

Re: A New Guys Supra Build

just uploaded the dyno sheet, had my boost controller gain setting wrong making my wastegate fluctuate a bit at the end. (10 Lbs)
im hoping to shoot for the 375-400 range with this new turbo, maybe more?

Scored a t4 Header for 50$ on the forum here and a buddy of mine gave me a 3" vband downpipe earlier today for helping him hook up his car stereo!
new gaskets are on the way as well as some AN fittings and SS oil lines for the new turbo setup

Re: A New Guys Supra Build

got a few more parts in today, just need a couple more flanges for the downpipe and i should be able to throw the new hx35 on there soon!

hks style wastegate from drift motion along with a turbosmart 14psi spring. Aaron said being longer than the hks one it should be around 16psi

some new oil lines and AN fittings for a easier turbo install

along with a t4 and t3 flange so i can my my own adapter from the t4 header to t3 turbo since the header i have sits the turbo back in the engine bay further than id like it to

o2/wideband weld in flanges for the new downpipe

more updates to come soon!
