Hey, all. I've lurked the site for a while, and have sold my '88 Celica GT-Four to a friend a couple months ago, and am strongly considering picking up a MKIII to do some work on. I've been talking with a local enthusiast who has two for sale, and wanted to gather a few opinions. Both are turbo/targa pre-facelift cars. One has a recent engine swap and the guy's been driving around as a daily for the past few weeks. It's a 5-speed, and he's asking $3K for the car.

The other is a shell, no guts in the engine compartment or anything. The body's in great shape but would need to be repainted. Interior is pretty nice, and even comes with the Super Monitor, as well as an aftermarket boost gauge. Suspension seems to be in good shape as well.

Right now I'm considering picking up the shell, storing it in my backyard and turning it into a project. Firstly, does anyone know what kind of price a shell like this(Turbo/Targa, no engine/tranny, good body/suspension but needs paint) would go for? I've checked the F/S forum and don't really see anyone selling a standard MKIII shell, so I wanted to pose the question here. If anyone has any advice or reasons to pick up the running one, gimme your opinions!

Thanks!

YOU GOT RID OF YOUR ALL TRAC?! WTF?! OMG! go get it back.
Heh... if you think a MKIII's expensive to build, try a GT-Four. They're great cars, but I've thrown a metric ton of money into it and it still wasn't running the way I wanted it. However, I'll prolly own one again... I've just wanted a MKIII since I was a kid. :icon_bigg

The shell isn't in the best of shape, but it is a straight body and it'd be a really good project car IMHO. But, I have time in abundance and I'll take my time and get this car back into wonderful shape... heh.

You and me both! Welcome to the forums!

I haven't gotten a MKIII yet, but I'm biding my time and saving my money up. :D

Also- my roomie here has a 92' Celica Turbo All-track, and has this insane plan to build it up. I want to see him do it, but I have a feeling he'll run out of money and/or patience before he gets anywhere close to his target. :biglaugh:

Those things are so packed full of vroom that there's no room to work!
