I was just wondering if the USDM and JDM racks use the same seal, o rings and bushings, considering the only difference is one is RHD and the other LHD.
My power steering rack is leaking badly and looking at my receipts the mechanic did not rebuild it, only the pump. Kinda dumb of him since the car's main problem was the power steering system and been running with insufficient fluid for some while. Instead he spent my money on fixing some cosmetic stuff.
From my CSI skills, it looks to be leaking from the bottom of control valve oil seal.
I am sending it off to a specialist for rebuild. I hope he does a good job cause taking this rack off is no fun, though a fwd is far worse.
Just a rebuild video to link here.

I also bought a hayden 1009 power steering cooler kit, as i heard that these 80s toyotas tend to super heat the power steering fluid overwhelming the seals. Hopefully after the rebuild and the hayden cooling kit the leaking problems will be a thing of the past.

The rack rebuilder said he found lots of crud in the rack, he recommended that I clean or replace the reservoir. The reservoir has caked on deposits on the walls and I cant see the fluid level. On top of that it cant be disassembled, and, the wire screen may have fallen off or broke a little. Have a look through the high pressure suction outlet. Does this hole look normal or is the screen supposed to cover all the hole ?
I was thinking of changing to a 7M steel reservoir since that can be opened up. is the 7M steel type a direct fit ?

2nd pic is the PPS solenoid.

I just received my Hayden 1009 power steering cooler kit, will be installing it tonight together with the return lines. On Saturday I will collect the rebuilt rack and hopefully get my car running for an alignment.
Lucky me I was able to locate a used reservoir that is in better shape than my original one.
Hopefully heavy steering will be a thing of the past...and my steering should work they way it was intended to.
