No.
It's the mass of air going into the motor, boost is just a factor in this.
Saying it's the size of the turbo is actually quite right because as a rule of thumb bigger turbo's move a bigger mass of air.

The thing about this topic is that there are so many factors involved that you can't really say its any one thing, and every little thing affects it to some extent. I'd say the biggest factor to float would be the spring rates and the duration. Maybe boost level and flow if they're large enough to have an effect. just my .02

Hey guys sorry to come in late, haven't been near the computer for over a week, was in rome all week ;)

Anyways, the diff in cams are as follows.

100+90-100 for maching 2jz cams gives about 15-20 hp over previous peak and peak power drops off near 6500ish so
$200-250 for 2jz usdm cams

Crower's (GB) normal price form me 535 gives 40-60 HP gain over your previous peak however, on the 272 small core aka 264's you will hold power till about 700 and then only bleed 30-50 by redline of 8k vs the stock which bled 130 whp by 7800 rpm, and the 2jz which will bleed about 70-100 by 8k

HKS's 264's have more duration but less lift which equates to little laggier spool up but should hold power to redline and possibly make a little more nearer the 7000 mark.

Stock springs are good for FAR more then 7000 RPM more like 8500-9000. I reved to 7800 EVERY day and usually bumped 8300 in first gear because it was over so quick.

I ran the crower 264 with both upgraded springs and stock springs with no problems.

So in short, pay half the price for real cams and get roughly half the performance gain.. IMO if you upgrade your turbo you need to upgrade the revlimit on the 1jz, it LOVES revs and has fuq all with out boost.

true, but i think this is a lil more for guys on stock twins than for 1J's with a single setup. just too eek out that lil bit more up high.

Hopefully soon. I replaced my alternator and it didn't fix my charging problem. I've been really busy to mess with the supra. So, next couple of weeks before it gets cold out.

i had a charging problem on mine, and it turned out to be the power wire of my alternator had somehow come halfway undone from the two wires near the fusebox

thanks, I am curious to find out. Either way, the 2jz cams can only help the 1jz...just a matter of how much.

I just found this info over on SF:

Also, all this talk about the JDM cam being "mild" in comparison to the US ones:

Its 224deg/7.8mm lift vs 233deg/8.25mm lift - a TINY difference. We're probably talking about a 5rwhp difference from the cams alone. If the JDM ports are indeed better shaped because of the lack of the EGR, this would make up for the difference in the cam anyway.

There's is probably a good chance that toyota put the slightly bigger cam in the US head to make up for the interference of the EGR setup - anyone have any idea about this?

Gene

So I wonder what the actual hp difference is? 5hp sounds low...

GUYS!!!

Please Please, Package the cams tightly if you ship them to me, the cps tabs are very very very fragile.

I would suggest the Fedex Triangle tube for shipping, its what i prefer to ship in. You can package the cams very tightly in them.

Can you get the JDM cams done, or just USDM?
both can be done. the USDM cams have SLIGHTLY larger lobes (I think it is referenced in this thread by me or BigZavs), due to the EGR equipment, thus provide slightly greater gains.

in other words, both can be machined, but the USDM cams are preferred over the JDM cams.
