yeah like everyone else has stated, the snout goed towards the tranny. the funny part, it will work to an extent if put in backwards. I had a guy about a year ago bring me a built up turbo that he had a SPEC (forgot what stage) clutch put in by a local Toyota dealer. After a short break-in period of easy driving, he started to get on it and it held fine up to 6psi then would totally let go. I pulled it apart and sure enough, it was in backwards. The sad pard here is that it was a Toyota dealer that put it in in the first place. (just another reason why I do all of my own work)
^^ Ha... Been looking at the TRSM for all of the tranny stuff this whole weekend and still kinda not sure. That's why I dragged this thread from the crypts (researching)...
I even put the throwout bearing hub together yesterday... which was new for me. I always thought it was a single piece :biglaugh:
Too risky of an item to guess at, by looking at the diagrams in the TRSM. I did not see anything in the TRSM which told me what to do with the 6-puck or give details about the orientation of the disk itself. Just wanting to be sure is all...:1zhelp:
Just not thge usual scenarios when using aftermarket stuff... for instance, there is a spacer plate between the stock flywheel and crank. It looks like it needs to be removed so that the new flywheel's teeth are located at the same spot as the stock one. Is that plate just a spacer and am I okay removing it? I looked in the TRSM, but could not find the answer ;-)
Stock flywheel, dual diaphragm pressure plate (local shop), with stock clutch disc for now (dont want to tune with a good disc).
Car off: can switch gears no problem so trans is good.
Car on: Can't go into any gear from Neutral. The clutch pedal has lots of pressure, travels to the floor smoothly. I can see the diaphragm flexing when the pedal is pressed. It wants to go into gear as when you try the car slightly rocks forward and a noise can be heard which sound like the clutch disengaging from the F/W. All the symptons of a reversed disc...
I was possitive the disc was in correctly but I unbolted the PP from the F/W and slid it forward to check the disc, sure enough it IS in correctly. (Sprung hub is facing the transmission).
OEM master/slave from an 1987 with a one piece SS braided line from master to slave (from Driftmotion).
Tomorrow I will try starting the car while in gear already to see what happens but after that I am lost.
So I put the car into 1st gear with the engine off and turned the engine on. With the clutch pedal held down nothing out of the ordinary. If I start to release the pedal the car wants to move forward and if I take it out of gear I can't put it back in.
