oky this might sound crazy but has anyone here done this before a long time ago i was at the gas station and i saw some old guy measuring what looked like a can of acetone and put it in his tank sure enough it was acetone, i asked him if it was his car and why he would do such a thing hes said it helped save gas and it added 75 more miles to his tank till he had to fill up that was a long tome ago

and today i was checking out this hot chick so i said you doing that to get better gas mileage?she said yes it simply adds back the impurities the epa wants out and she it told her about the old guy and i just though he was crazy she told me i should try it she said its 2.5oz for every 10 gallons

im gona try it in my truck first but the gas gage dont work so im just gonna have to estimate
has anyone here done this before?

Wat?

Never heard of that, but found this in the internetz: "Acetone added to gas tank in small proportion improves the fuel's ability to vaporize completely by reducing the surface tension that inhibits vaporization of some fuel droplets."

I'm not trying it.

Those run on sentences are so long they don't even have periods!! But in other news; no I have not tried this but have also heard of people putting mileage maker additives in the tank for better mileage.

what i heard about acetone is it raises the octane, and doesn't improve milage.

though i do admit i was not happy with some of the testing they did for alternate fuels.
Yeah, I have issues with various episodes and testing methods of theirs, but this one was pretty clear on the issue of any mileage improvement. And the article on Snopes is another nail in that particular coffin.

As for using it as an octane booster, I'll pass on that. I've got enough problems with my Supra now without having to figure in the possible consequences of putting acetone in the tank.

There's been other testing besides Myth Busters...acetone does not help with mileage. It's another myth.

Now that gas is so expensive vs what we were used to in the US, you are going to see a lot of different products pushed the "improve mileage". Consumer beware...if it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Acetone? No

Toluene? Yes. To make this clear, my source for this is from my uncle, he's an engineer working for a oil/gas company (not sure which).

He told me to throw about a pint of toulene in a full take. Aparantly it will up the octane *up to* 5 points. I was warned not to pour in too much as it could have adverse effects.

would a dollar worth of any of these products save you at least a dollar worth of gas? I bet it ends up costing more with all these additive things

Yep, a very valid point.

Also, toluene raises the octane, it will NOT increase gas milage (lower octane usually gives BETTER gas milage).

People use toluene to make cheap race gas, so see it as such and not a MPG improver.
