Nothing special in the VIN that is Supra specific. MA71 is obviously the chassis and engine code, the rest could be the same on any Toyota.

The Supra VIN isn't going to tell you very much at all.

J = Manufactured in Japan (all of them are)
T = Toyota
2 = Passenger vehicle
MA70 or MA71 = N/A or Turbo
J/N or L or M = Targa or Hardtop or Factory Sunroof
VIN Check Digit
Model Year = 1986 (G), 1987 (H), 1988(J), 1989(K), 1990(L), 1991(M), 1992(N), 1993(P)
Chassis number [6 digits]

The Model code on the date plate/sticker tells you more about the car.

this goes for North America, but apparently not for all markets. the European VINs are quite different; I'd love to see how a VIN from an Australian or New Zealand model looks like. sorry for hijacking this thread :icon_roll
