Project Ookii Ao: Road to 500whp

Yeah, you almost got it. The process is: 1. Prep base material for paint (sand/scuff/clean/adhesion promoter/epoxy primer) 2. Base coat in Toyota Super White II 3. Clear coat (regular gloss 2 part clear) 4. Wait overnight so the clear over the white completely cures and becomes impervious to...

Walk around video of '89 White Package Supra

Youtube has a pretty good stabilization feature that you can turn on in the video settings. Might want to try that out. Cool to see such a clean mk3!

Project Ookii Ao: Road to 500whp

Progress on the paint and reassembly has been slow, but we're getting there. Trim is mid-paint now. Recent teasers below. Hint: that white lettering is impossible to do by hand. New approach being tried below. I'm feeling good with the new method.

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

Aw jeez, now I'm on the spot. Hm... Ok. How about this? Your charcoal canister is really letting down that engine bay. It looks like it's actually made out of charred coal. How'd I do? :D

    TSRM is down!

Anyone know who owns that? I'd gladly pay for hosting. That's been an amazing resource. Super convenient.

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

The downside of your epic engine block cleanliness is that your EVAP canister, cruise control and power steering pump now look like hell. :P

@Clip You're killing it with the good content lately. Thanks for all the pics. Reminds me of SM when I was in college and the obsession began. People busy building cool stuff and sharing on here. Which then reminds me of Mike's passing. Damn. Alas... That's one of my "to-do's" before getting...

Removing Crank Bolts Secured with Loctite Red

[shudders] I think that's the same stuff that some EE coworkers talked about in a PCB factory. Small amounts were really hazardous because it would go straight to your bones and there was no way to get it out. You'd just rot from the inside out.

Removing Crank Bolts Secured with Loctite Red

I used to work with industrial flow equipment, sometimes servicing phosgene applications. It's a common chemical in plastic manufacturing, and also happens to be a chemical weapon responsible for nearly 100,000 deaths in WW1 alone. The detection threshold for smell is near/over the safe limit...

Body Molding Refinishing - Color Change?

Well, as an update to folks, so far, nobody knows anything on this. The only recommendation I've received is to simply paint over it. I've got quote requests out to some custom PVC extrusion companies. I'm thinking I might be able to just make my own.

Body Molding Refinishing - Color Change?

I haven't seen anyone address this "properly". Hoping someone hiding out there has some tips after going through it themselves. The late year body moldings are color-matched to the paint. The moldings are NOT a uniform sheen and I think this adds a significant visual benefit. IE painting over...

I was hoping you would do something like that. I think you nailed it. Can't wait to see it back in the car and now I can't wait to paint my own 7M block!

That is probably the coolest thing I've seen on the supra-related forums in a long time. VERY COOL!

Sure, at this pace I should be able to complete a paint job in approximately 3 years, haha.

Close up of the front bumper and nose cone paint. Some areas came out with nearly no orange peel texture, even before sanding. Pretty amazing how nicely that Deltron clear lays down if you get it just right. I don't know how to make that happen all the time, but I do get lucky every now and then!

    WTF IS TOYOTA DOING?!?!?

Kinda like how they offered the previous generations in a low and high powered variety, right? Just happens to be a 4 cyl turbo instead of an inline 6. I think it's fine/good. It's not a "pure" Supra, so whatever builds a good aftermarket and customer base is a good thing. If they sell a ton...

Update: After a VERY long time not making any progress on re-assembly I got some things done today. Rear mudguards installed. Bumper supports installed. That's it, haha. I'm hoping to start rolling on this now that my other two vehicles are less needy. The motor is smoking more and more oil...

    Window Mouldings

New window trim is HUGE in making these not look like old economy cars. Fresh trim, as intended from Toyota, looks very nice.
