Do it yourself, pull the head have it machined, get a mhg and some arp head studs.

Thanks Turk. Well My head gasket hasn't blown YET(knock on wood). Actually I was just wondering how much ppl paid versus doing it themselves.

It is crazy expensive. It was cheaper for me to buy a full set of tools and all the parts.

when it comes to the Mkiii, do everything yourself. you'll be much better off.

the dealership here in dayton ohio was about 1400. to do it...when you can machine the head for about 30 bucks studs for 110 and a hg for 150...so what do you like better? 1400 or 290?

ahh enough said. I figured it would have be around a grand. But the way some people were talking, it sounded like it was a major hit to the wallet.

what a joke! over $1k to do a headgasket.

toyota will rebuild the entire motor for 2000, and you will pay almost half that to just have the HG done.

if you are dedicated you can do the head gasket in 2 days without straining your self.

I got quoted about $3K(cnd), at the dalership, what a joke . I just did it myself, took about a week, and saved a shi#t load of money.

My sh** is warrantied for 100k more miles. I'll have Toyota do it for free if god forbid I ever need it.

Welp I dont have the tools or experience... so I spent 400$ to get mine replaced at the Manager of the Toyotas service departments aftehours personal garage.

stock HG was put back in. just a GE so I didnt mind.


2k miles later I got a rod knock.
