I've posted this before. There seems to be a LOT of gents growling about losing R154's and W58's. As a possible solution, try the Tremec TKO 500 or TKO 600.

This $215 adapter plate from OTT Industries can be used to bolt the GM pattern Tremec's up to a NA 7M W58 bellhousing.

Gear Ratio's

TKO 600 - 2.87 1.89 1.28 1.00 0.64 - 600 Ft Lbs
R154 - 3.25 1.95 1.30 1.00 0.75

Price: $1782
$300 - Shifter

The adapter will also work with a Richmond 6-speed:

Gear Ratio's

3.28 2.14 1.57 1.24 1.00 0.76 4.79 - 450 Ft. Lbs.

Price $2900 with shifter.

Now that IJ is using a Tremec, maybe you gents won't be so nervous about using one too.

We can use the T56 Tremec/BW from the LT1/LS1 F-bodies? If so this is VERY interesting... that's a TOUGH transmission...

Nope. Adapter won't work with the T56. It doesn't have the standard GM four bolt pattern.

Excellent info, good to know there is alternative to going auto.
How it fits into the tunnel, any modification required? Do we need custom driveshaft for it?
I can't find how heavy R154 is. Is TK600 (105lb) heavier than R154?
Make it sticky :icon_bigg

I have absolutely no idea about these transmissions, but could someone tell me if any of them are 6 speed? I always wanted one for the 7m.

The Tremec TKO 500 & 600 are 5-speeds. The T-56 is a 6-speed, but will not work with this adapter as previously mentioned.

this is intresting! So if it bolts up to a w58 bellhousing that means using a w58 style clutch and pp correct? If so Im not to into the push style clutch realse but if it will work with r154 style pp and clutch this will be a very nice alternative as Im sick of problems with the r154 (bent clutch forks) and what not but I hate autos even if I do drag my car. And the cost of a full rebuild on the r154 I got priced was well over 2k which just doesnt seem cool to me.

edit- Will this require any other change such as master or slave cylinder?

umm, why does the website state that that plate is for a 22re's w56 bellhousing?

The adapter is for the GM SM420 4WD transmission to be bolted up to a W56 bell. It so happens the SM420 has the standard GM four bolt pattern, same as the T5, Muncie, Saginaw and Tremec TKO. Since it bolts to the W56, it also bolts to the W58.

Get in touch with them. You can't use the clutch disk with the kit anyway.
